As a mere peasant, I can’t say that my life was anything but a slog. I struggled every day, looking to put something on the table, but it was my life, and no one had a right to take it. Especially not Eris Lanyer, lord of the city, the very same who was supposed to keep people such as myself safe! The nobleman killed me without a second thought, for the sole purpose of testing the blade he had just acquired! So here I am, burning with such a rage at this flagrant lack of justice. My hate is so immense that I’m unable to pass to the afterlife, and so I return, as a Revenant. If no one noticed my existence among the living, they sure as all hell are going to take note of me in my death… or rather undeath! A little pact with a dark deity later and I’m now capable of growing my powers through the accumulation of Discordance shards. Waging war against the mighty, causing mayhem and striking fear in the hearts of mortals will help me unlock new abilities that will bring me closer to my ultimate build an Undead Kingdom and run Eris’ little world into the ground! Because I don’t just want the man to pay for his sins, oh no! I want to make him suffer like I did my entire life, and I will not rest until he has tasted what true misery and despair feel like. But wait, why can I only seem to shriek and snarl when I try to speak? And what is that atrocious pain and hunger that won’t let me rest for even a second? As it turns out, life as a revenant is a little more complicated than I first thought… Oh, here’s someone, maybe he’ll be able to help?*Shrieks*Oh boy…
I got a mess with no direction that meanders about aimlessly. The story is convoluted and drawn out. The characters are bland and without any real drive. The entire thing is a chore to read and unsatisfying to finish.
I really wanted to like this book but the writer made the same mistakes others made ,the MC is dead and he is not human anymore!! Why write like every other writer ? Go for it to make him a monster at least he would be interesting ,instead you just copied other writers
I wanted to like this book I really did, but for me the power growth was just to easy and the MC was so overpowered from the start that I ended up dropping the story at 72%. His claws cut through armour like it's butter. The humans are stupid and so weak that they just get rolled over without any real struggle.
Undead books are coming out in droves and there are plenty that have done a better job. I will say that I liked the idea of an extra planer Kingdom.
Fun story, interesting take on the undead and necromancy as a whole. It was a unique story, but there were some issues that prevents me from granting it 5 stars.
There were several typos, I went ahead and reported them so they can be fixed, but I honestly found it shocking how obvious they were. A proper editor should be considered next time rather than just spell check.
Lastly, and this is wholly of personal taste, the MC became a little too cartoony towards the end. He spent far too much time with both antagonists, to the point that it felt like a Saturday morning cartoon rather than something serious and meaningful. The Chester resolution specifically was bad. Finally letting his target go... It just felt stupid and made me lose a lot of respect for the MC.
Good dialogue, interesting concepts, a very drastic character change between life and death that I wasn't expecting (I expected gradual changes). I don't agree with the character's sportsmanship nor with telling other undead what his revenge focus is because what's to stop his enemies from killing his anchor to this realm and forcing him to move on? Not sure if that'd work or not but it was a concern I had. Overall, great book!
This book was good, but darker, more sinister than I was looking for. The titular revenant lives up to his goal of wanting revenge. Though he wants revenge on the noble who carelessly killed him, rather than murdering or torturing him, the revenant wants to bring his whole kingdom down around him. It means a lot of murder of the populace, which essentially means he's killing undeserving people, much like the noble did to him.
He becomes a revenant for revenge because someone killed him and he starts killing others just to get shards. So NO ONE else who this guy kills wants revenge?????
Moreover, How did he become powerfull to kill a hag who was before him and had more power???
Finally, why one earth he is so comfortably navigating a new race without any knowledge??
Sorry Andrew Karevik this guy is not relatable.

From beginning to end! I loved it! A wild ride - wonderful characters and plot- never wanting the end to come! Can hardly wait to read the next book - please keep the story going!!
Well written story. Enjoyed the characters and the main character, even though "evil" is easy to root for. Enjoyed how everything developed and can't wait to read the next book and hope for many more!
A nobody, unremarkable, and living in tedium is killed by a thoughtless noble. His rise into the world of the undead is both entertaining and engaging. Nice way to end the first book as well.
Guy is so pissed that some noble killed him, that he doesn't go for rebirth, but instead becomes an undead. So naturally he would be against killing innocent right? Absolutely not. He has zero compunction of killing not only innocent, but also women and children, and elderly.
I could not finish this book. Mostly because I couldn't get the tone it was going for. The MC is petulant, childish, power-hungry... And we have no idea why. The whole book felt like reading the description of a very long tantrum. I couldn't connect. YMMV
