Essays are fairly hit or miss. Best are his analyses of class relations: "Classes and Class Struggle during the Revolution" (ch. 2), "Problems of work in Year II" (ch. 6), and "The French Revolution in the History of the Contemporary World" (ch. 17). These three are great supplementary reading to Soboul's "A Short History of the French Revolution, 1789-1799."
