4.5 out of 5 stars

I can gladly sum this novella up in three words – COMPLETELY FREAKIN’ ADORABLE. In Santa (Maybe) you’ve got a down on his luck good guy whose lifelong crush can’t recognize him beyond his mall Santa costume and a heart-broken single mom too full of self-doubt to notice an opportunity for true love. In less than the time it took for my daughter to watch her favorite Disney Jr. show, I got to read about two great characters falling in love during Christmas and getting a solid HEA. Extra bonus, when I picked the story up from Amazon it cost me $0.00. WIN.

Growing up with the nickname of Matchstick because of his scrawny physique, Mark knew he had zero chance of catching the eye of his best friend’s older sister Madeline. As years pass Mark transforms his body but his mind can never forget Madeline. After rejecting a clients unwanted advances Mark finds himself without a job and depending on temp work as a mall Santa to make rent. What should feel like the end of the world turns into a golden opportunity when Madeline and her daughter Emily show up for a meet and greet with Santa. Mark won’t waste the opportunity to make his one real Christmas wish come true.

“He reached out with his foot and nudged the door closed. He wasn’t going to kiss her, but he’d make damn sure she realized she wanted him to.”

Madeline dedicated herself to her marriage only to find her husband dedicated himself to a whole lot of other women. Struggling to get through the holiday she’s caught off guard when the mall Santa makes a pass at her…and she actually wants to accept it. This guy feels comforting and safe, but he’s hiding something. Can she trust him and his motives long enough to give herself a second chance at happiness?

“And that was the moment. The moment when every doubt she had about him melted away. Madeline still questioned Joe’s claim that the man had spent the last decade madly in love with her, but, if true, she was one lucky woman.”

Some people are not fans of novellas. I am not one of those people. Sometimes I need a novella like others need a shot of espresso, a tasty little jolt of story energy. Santa (Maybe) is a great holiday pick me up. I will definitely be re-reading this to keep me in the holiday spirit and I not-so-secretly hope author Alice Bex may revisit Mark and Madeleine in future stories.

Happy reading.

If what you are looking for is a lighthearted romantic comedy set around the holidays, this is a quick read you will enjoy. It begins with sisters doing some holiday shopping, and discussing their dating lives.
There is a little male bashing going on. Nothing to hurt sensitive ears.
"Tis the season, and of course there must be a mall Santa, and a long line.
As Santa's shift changes, a younger, more fit, totally adorable Santa takes the throne. One that really seems to know these two sisters. So when Madeleine, divorced mom, tries to remove talkative EWmily from Santa's lap, and Santa insists Mom take a seat, things begin to get interesting.

I liked how the chapters counted down the days to Christmas.
Each chapter was a complete story in itself, leading to the next chapter.
And I will give away that it has a HEA ending. Well, every after is a long time.

Story was good. Had me a bit nervous at the party with Kristen & Madeleine's conversation, but overall it was a good sorry.

Ending did feel a bit rushed, though.

The crush that wouldn't die

Great feel good read with a really sweet message that sometimes love does conquer all. It's nearly christmas and her daughter wants to see Santa. Although tired and fed up with her job she agrees. Santa unbeknownst to her is an old friend of her younger brother and has has a crush on her since he could remember. Add confusion as to identify, an ex husband who likes having his own way, a millionaire's wife who has to have her own way or else, arson and a scheme for a great read. That leaves the baddies with egg on their faces and a new start for others. Great good read that will leave you with a smile on your face.

Santa Maybe (2013) by writer Mazy Morris.

A lovely christmas story about second chances.
The story follows Madeleine Morgan, a successful divorce lawyer and devoted single mother to six-year-old Emily. Madeleine has an unexpected run-in with a Santa impersonator, which turns her world upside down.

Said Santa impersonator, Mark Jameson, has been fired from his job and is being stalked by a deranged wealthy woman. He reconnects with Madeleine, his high-school crush, and sparks starts to fly.

Mazy Morris has written so many cute gems, and this is one of them. The sad part is that there is obviously story about side characters that Morris intended to write about, but there are no sequels. She has several books that are a strong start to a series, but the rest of the series never appeared. Shame on whatever stopped Morris from writing more. If there is any way to get back to the sequels to these stories, Mazy Morris, I hope you can!

OK, confession time… I really didn’t care for this book when I started reading it and I was not going to give it a very good review. It took me almost half the book to really get into it. And then I really started liking it! This book really turned itself around and became very cute, sweet, and even adorable towards the end. It is a very quick read and definitely worth the time.

Giggle inducing romantic comedy, with lovable characters and a happy ending. I had my doubts about it at the first meeting of Madeleine and Mark, but it all vanished as the story progressed. I liked how the kid character is written, and the relationship between the siblings.

I adore this story so much!! 🥺 It's about a divorced mother and a man who loved her from afar for more than a decade ago. When they finally met again, he never wanted to let go of her.

Madeline and Mark's story is just so adorable and cute! Mark was Madeline's brother Joe's friend, and he has physically matured *ahem* compared to when they were young (he was once called "Matchstick"), and now he's a personal trainer. He’s loved her since they were teens, and that love has only grown stronger. Meanwhile, our female protagonist doesn’t realize who he is until the great revelation ✨

It was during the Christmas season when Mark first saw Madeline again—she was with Emily (Madeline's daughter) and Ami (Madeline's sister) at the mall, where Mark was dressed as Santa, working a side job (after being threatened and attacked by our antagonist, Kristin, who I absolutely loathe🙄).

A bit of a spoiler on this part, though it's in the beginning of the story

One thing that really threw me was their first meeting. Santa Mark made Madeline sit on his LAP. In the MALL. In front of probably hundreds of KIDS with their parents waiting in line! And he held her tightly. LIKEEE—THAT IS SO INAPPROPRIATE. And realistically, it's laughable. Madeline thought so too—she was weirded out by this handsome blue-eyed Santa, yet also flattered and felt butterflies when he touched her!! Well, in Mark's defense, he did it because Madeline was eager to go home while Emily was adamant about seeing Santa—but still, I was laughing through this part. Like, pls Mark, hold your horses 🤣

But fret not, that’s the only "😐😶" scene I encountered. I was supposed to give it a rating lower than this, but as I read the rest? Oh boy! The story has some intriguing plot points! I was fully invested in how they’d take down Kristin, who was such an irksome, vexatious character. And let’s not forget Chad, Madeline's ex-husband. I also love the characters' relationships with one another—their family bonds, their fun and quirky personalities, and their beautiful love story. I especially enjoyed how the story counted down from seven days before Christmas.

Everything was so beautiful and cute! Though the story isn’t heavy on drama, it was a fun, short read! I was genuinely disappointed when I reached "THE END." I felt like a kid who was promised Disneyland but instead got taken to a spin-off amusement park. That's how Mazy Morris' writing played with my emotions—leaving me thrilled, yet longing for just a little bit more.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and adored it! Though it might feel a bit rushed (falling in love so quickly) from Madeline's point of view, and the chemistry might seem lacking, it's understandable—it’s a novella, after all. It's a sweet, cute short book perfect for reading while traveling or during a brief break! Loved it!

At less than 100 pages I was thinking how good could this book be? I’m so glad I was wrong! This is the cutest book with that laugh out loud romantic element that makes for one fantastic read. We meet Mark who is filling in as Santa when he meets up with his old high school crush Madeleine. Not realizing who he is he decides to play up that angle and let her get to know him as he is now and not as her younger brothers friend. I love that every time they met up he is disguised by his Santa beard which makes for some really laughable moments. If you get a chance please try this short fun and romantic read that is bound to make you see Santa in a really different way.

The mall Santa Madeleine and her daughter speak with turns out to be Mark, her younger brother's friend who used to have a hopeless crush on Madeleine way back when. She doesn't recognize him at first. He seems nice but his stalker ex complicates things.

This was okay for a one-time quick read, not something I would go back to.

There is a clever plot that involves fake texting two people that turns out pretty well here. But I couldn't help thinking that it was somewhat unlikely to work in real life. All it would have taken to spoil it is for one of them to refer to a text they'd gotten, and the other one to realize they hadn't had that text conversation.

Steam level: Kissing.

Madeline and Mark

Madeline and her daughter Emily and her sister Ami are at the mall and Madeline can't wait to get home! It had been a long day! When Emily sees Santa she begs her mom and aunt to let her go see him. Reluctantly Madeline agrees, but not before Aunt Ami agrees to stay with her while Madeline goes shopping for their brother Joe. When she comes back they are almost there so Madeline waits with them. What happens next surprises her! What happens? You will need to read this great story by Mazy Morris to find out! You wont be disappointed 😉

Adorable quick read, perfect for the Holidays! Madeleine doesn't realize when she takes her daughter to see Santa that he has been in love with her all his life. Mark is her little brother's friend and has never stopped loving her. Lots of funny mix-ups happen along the way in this lovely romance novella. Good clean read! Recommended!
