Adrianna is running away to figure out her life. Her parents are gone and her uncle has blown the family fortune. She gets in her car and decides to drive until she finds where she needs to be to figure it out. She stops in a small town in Montana and decides that this will be the perfect place for her to figure it all out. She gets pulled over by a Trooper and he lets her off with a wave and a smile and sends her in the direction of someone who can help her find work and a place to stay.
She ends up taking a job as a ranch as a housekeeper/cook. And instantly feels welcome... like this is where she is supposed to be. She doesn't want to spill the beans on who she really is or why she's really there, so she tells the owner of the ranch (Trent, who really starts to feel like a father figure to her) that her name is Anna.
Bring in Josh....
Josh is following Anna at the directive of Gianni (who I figured out is her best friend along with his wife Shelby, the relationship between Anna and Gianni isn't really explained so you just sort of have to figure it out). Josh is an ex cop who was injured and retired from the job. Now he's doing the man who saved his life a favor and at first is really just looking forward to watching the poor little rich girl fail so he can get back to his life of nothingness. But just as Anna does, he finds a love of life on a ranch.
Josh and Anna hit it off. They get close, really close as a matter of fact. Anna finally decides that she can't keep lying to Trent about who she is, so she tells him she lied to him and tells him an abbreviated version of why she is and why she's there. It makes no difference to him and the deception doesn't change their relationship one bit. Score one for really great bosses!
There are a couple of places that Josh calls Anna by her true name (Adrianna) during the heat of the moment and she takes no notice. It's not until about the third time or so this happens that it registers that the only person she has told was Trent and she knew he would never betray her trust. She confronts Josh, he tells her the whole story of who he is and why he's there. At this point Adrianna decides she needs to go back home and confront her past so she can move forward. She's not sure where she's going with Josh and by the time she reaches home she misses him, but decides that if he wants something with her he needs to be the one to seek her out.
Things happen (kind of hard to tell too much without giving away spoilers) and in the end it's Josh to the rescue. They fall in love... and well, you just have to read it to find out what happens.
The only con I had with this book was that there are parts that are actually labeled "Josh POV", and that doesn't bother me, because getting both sides often times gives you greater insight to what's going on, but there are other parts that are clearly from his POV but aren't labeled. I think that perhaps different POVs should be broken up into their own chapters (however short they may be). But as long as you are paying attention you can easily tell who is telling you the story at that point.
This is a short book that can be read in an afternoon (well, a few hours really if you can just sit and read).
