Throughout her young life, twenty-two-year-old Samantha (Sami) Johnson has felt incomplete . . . as though a piece of her was missing; she has sought to fill this void with friends and through her paintings. A recent college graduate, Sami is about to embark on her chosen career – an elementary school, art teacher – when she meets her knight-in-shining-armor, who offers her not only the love and support she seeks, but the completeness for which she yearns. Is she ready to accept this man’s intentions and bloom into womanhood, or will she first force herself to address the issues that for years have held her captive?

Having not read the other release for this series I did not enter into the book with any preconceived notions of how each character will evolve or play out. The story starts with the newly graduated Sami taking her first teaching position. Usually when one newly graduates there is that whole feeling of optimism, where your future is an endless possibility, I did not get the that feeling about the character. This could be due to the order in which the books were written, the first book was published three years earlier. I did not get a sense that there was an evolution of the characters, rather they merely plodding along on a course. Without giving away the plot of the book, Sami has to overcome her past, but she is not really left a better person. Perhaps this is more of a true to life story as many people are confronted with their past and do not move beyond. It was a good read, but perhaps not my particular brand of romance.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was a goodread give away. I was very impressed from the get go. The book came to me fast when opening the book it looks to be a budding rose hand drawn with a note from B A Beers. I so hated messing this book up so I went and got it on kindle so I could save the book just as it was sent to me. Nuts I know but it was just to nice to mess up.

I found the book to be very good, I have not read the other books that go with this. I have bought them and will read them. I am so hooked on what will happen to Mark and Smai that I have to read all 5 books. This book got me hooked to know more.

Very nice Ms Beers thank you so much for this book I will treasure it.

So glad that Ms. Beers added this prequel to her "Trilogy of the Rose" series. This books establishes the relationships that the protagonist, Sami, has with family and friends. It also explains some of the back story for her need for psychological assistance in the follow-on books.
Once again, Ms. Beers develops her characters so that the reader is drawn into the story. If you have not read any of the "Trilogy of the Rose" books, start here. Armed with the back stories, you will grasp and enjoy the continuing series.
