Dark Rule

Rate this book
The COIL Series adventure continues in Dark Rule, Book Three by D.I. Telbat, taking the reader from the South Pacific to the Greek Isles—from the depths of the ocean to the cone of an unstable volcano.

Nathan Isaacson—presumed dead by fellow agents but is now trained by master spy, Luigi Putelli—begins his solo spy career under ex-CIA agent Corban Dowler. When Corban loses contact with a beautiful Chinese agent, he sends Nathan to the South Pacific to locate her.

As Nathan infiltrates the underwater exploration team of a dark foe, Trevor Niles—who is bent on ruling at the expense of the lives of separatist Christians—it proves to be a spy game that tests Nathan's every spiritual and physical muscle.

Two years later, darkness has settled over the Island of Zalzuna in the Greek Isles, when the volcanic island under communist rule is ready to erupt. Nathan is sent to the island to gain intel on missing missionaries, but the light of captive Christians may be no more.

Heather Kooper and her team of Special Forces Christians are called in to assist in a possible rescue attempt, joining two adventurous teenagers—Walter, a chess prodigy, and Brad, a Major League hopeful. Following the trail of the missing Jamison family, the team unearths a dark scheme. COIL operative Nathan Isaacson prays he can save them from the outreached claws about to ensnare them all—even if it costs him his life!

Dark Rule, Book Three in the COIL Series, is a 98,000-word Christian adventure, with new cover design by Streetlight Graphics. Join COIL once again as their light continues to shine in the dark recesses of the world, but there is no redemption without sacrifice…

I've been writing novels and short stories since I was a young teen. God has greatly impacted me, and I now desire to honor the Lord with my life and writing.

My stories can be read in several online and print publications, as well as three anthologies. My bestselling COIL Series include novels Dark Liaison, Book One; Dark Hearted, Book Two; Dark Rule, Book Three; and Dark Vessel, Book Four, and are available at most e-retailers, as are Jaguar Dusk, a Christian Special Forces novel, Sea Scribe, a Covert Christian Mission Suspense, and End Times Novel, God's Colonel. See my website for other novels and stories added often, including Dark Cover, COIL Book Five, to be out late 2014.

I offer free weekly Christian short stories, or serialized novels, my Author Reflections, and occasional challenges to the Christian Church on my Telbat's Tablet blog at http://ditelbat.com.

When I'm not writing, I'm very involved in Christian ministry. I've kept my home office in the NW U.S. where my assistant, Dee, lives and helps with my editing and writing needs.

My motto: There is no redemption without sacrifice.

This is the 3rd of Telbat's books I've read. I like the series. Good action in Christian fiction form. Nathan is undercover alone, as people think he died in an earlier rescue attempt. Book Three by D.I. Telbat, taking the reader from the South Pacific to the Greek Isles—from the depths of the ocean to the cone of an unstable volcano.

COIL Operative Nathan Isaacson—presumed dead by fellow agents but has been secretly trained by master spy, Luigi Putelli—begins his solo spy career under ex-CIA Agent Corban Dowler.

Two years later, Nathan is sent on a seemingly unrelated operation, where darkness has settled over the Island of Zalzuna in the Greek Isles. The volcanic island under communist rule is ready to erupt in more ways than one. Nathan is to gain intel on missing missionaries, but the light of captive Christians may have been permanently extinguished.

COIL Operative Nathan Isaacson prays he can save them all from the outreached claws about to ensnare them—even if it costs him his life!

Fantastic!!! Telbat's books are ones I'll always keep so I can read them over and over every few years. I do that with all of my favorite books because it helps me apply the things I've learned to my life. I only save the best Christian fiction books, and they must be 100% faithful to scripture. I don't learn what God's Word says from these books though. No one should do that. Knowledge of scripture comes from reading and studying God's Word with the help of the Holy Spirit. What these books and others like them do is help me see places in my life where I need to be living and thinking more like Jesus. It's amazing how God uses them to teach me. Each time I read one the Lord will show me something that usually points to the very same scriptures I'm studying at that time and illustrates what He's been trying to teach me. I've done this for many years. I have a literal library of wonderful paperback and hardcover books in 4 floor to ceiling shelves in my home library. Before I got my kindle, I read each of those books about once every three years. I intend to fill my kindle with the best of the best Christian fiction and non-fiction books and will read them over and over along with my physical books. And all of Telbat's books will certainly be among them. I can definitely recommend all of his books!

Another fast-paced, suspenseful novel in the COIL series. This story centers around Nathan “Eagle Eyes” Isaacson, who due to injuries sustained in a prior op, can no longer lead his extraction team, and involves two different missions, two years apart. It also includes a slight romantic interest.

COIL founded by ex-operative, Corban Dowler, is made up of Christians, most with military backgrounds, who support Christian missionaries with supplies when needed and initiate rescue missions when necessary. Their faith is front and center and inspiring. I appreciate the strength it takes to face armed enemies with non-lethal weapons. But these operatives take the risks trusting in God to see them through or see them home to him.

Telbat’s writing is clean and exciting, though the realities of pain, suffering, and even death are woven into his stories. Those who do God’s work gain enemies who want the world to remain enslaved to darkness. Telbat recognizes there is spiritual darkness and evil as well as human evil acting in the world today. Much to think about. I look forward to continuing this series and I recommend Dark Rule.

Never trust in the outward appearance of someone.

Walter is a suit-wearing genius. Brad is a pitcher with an arm that has scouts waiting to sign him up. Both are high school boys. Who would ever think of asking for their help to rescue Brad's cousin, aunt and uncle who have gone missing while serving as missionaries?

Three of the COIL agents mistakenly assume these two are "just kids".

Good book, enjoyable read.

This was a pretty good story. I like the part where Horacio made his turn around. It was also interesting to read Laceys part of the story we all have times in life where we have questions about what we believe due to some hard time we experience in life. We have cross roads in our life when we have to decide is this event going to make us grow bitter or better.

Best ongoing Christian drama

The COIL series continues at breathtaking pace and then speeds up more at the end! Familiar characters plus new intriguing ones keep us enthralled as we find out more and more about the Christian agency that rescues those in harm’s way. Through much prayer and sharing of the gospel, they never give up, even with profound losses. This is a must read!

Book 4, here I come

The characters and the stories come alive! Even the dialogues seem to come alive as if I can actually hear them. Dark Vessel (COIL Book 4) is already in my library!

Loving this series! This is my favorite so far with an intriguing mystery as missionaries in a communist country (on an island) are jailed & tortured. Unlikely teen rescuers along with a COIL team head out to save them & arrest a ruthless fugitive. Many interesting twists & surprises unfold!

Great read for any age

I truly appreciate authors who look to write for any and all to read. This is a great story line that I would allow my 12 and 9 year old sons to read.

D.I. Telbat tells a great story

Trying to save Christians around the world from the enemy which is Satan and cronies. Coil does a great job without killing or maiming anyone.

Dark Rule is the third book in the COIL series and another intriguing read. I thought it was really interesting how Corban wasn't one of the main characters in this book - that definitely gave the book a different feel from the previous books.

The story itself was unique (especially part one of Dark Rule) and held my attention. A couple of things that happened in the story seemed kind of far-fetched (at least to me), but I did still enjoy the book. I particularly liked getting to know Nathan's character better.

Overall, Dark Rule was a good read and I think fans of Christian suspense/spy novels will enjoy it, as well as the entire COIL series to date. I plan on reading Dark Vessel, book four, when I have time as well as Telbat's other novel, Sea Scribe.

I just love the COIL series. So Dark Rule, Book Three by D.I. Telbat is just another fantastic book. I love to hear how the agents fight against the powers of evil and satan. They do it without killing any one and they always give the evil people a chance to do right and join the Lord’s side.
After book two I wondered if we would hear anymore from Nathan. His fellow agents and friends thought he died. Now Nathan works along. In Dark Rule it is divided into two parts with a span of two years between them. I really liked how the stories were different but were pulled together by a common thread.
In the different cases these guys go on, when they get into a very tight spot I just don’t see any way out, but D.I. Telbat finds a way and it is very exciting and interesting at how they always work out.
These stories are very full of action, adventure and suspense. I could read D.I. Telbat’s books in one sitting, but then the book would end to soon. I’m really looking forward to book four.
If you love suspenseful, action-packed books these books are for you. I highly recommend the COIL series and Dark Rule is an excellent read.

In this 3rd edition of the COIL Series, we move away from one of the main characters, Corban Dowler. While a good read, I kind of miss Corban.
