The second book in Carla Cassidy's Cowboy Cafe series. Nick Benson has returned home and discovers his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Chambers, waitressing at the Cowboy Cafe. It's not too much longer he finds out he has a son. Courtney already had her heart broke by Nick and certainly isn't going to set herself up for round two. But her son needs a father and Nick wants to be there and prove he can be a better father than his father had been.
A good continuation of the series. There are still unresolved issues that apparently continue on through the series. I see there is one more book listed in the series so hopefully that will lay the questions to rest.
Good book. Nick has come back to Grady Gulch to help out at his family's ranch. His sister was killed in a car crash a couple years ago, his oldest brother is in jail for attempted murder and his other brother is drowning his sorrows in drink. He was surprised to see his ex-girlfriend working in the cafe as a waitress and even more surprised to find that she had a son and that the baby is his. He wants to be a father to his son, but doesn't know if he can deal with Courtney again. When another waitress is murdered and their son disappears, they realize that love is what is most important. I liked both Nick and Courtney. Both had made mistakes in their relationship that they must now overcome. Nick had left Grady Gulch without a word to Courtney. She had refused to date him in public and he got tired of the secrecy. When he returned he was angry that she had not called and told him about the baby. He was determined to be involved in Garrett's life and be a better father than his own had been. He didn't intend to renew his relationship with Courtney, thinking that she hadn't changed. He discovered that the passion was still there and that he had never stopped loving her. Courtney was bitter about the way Nick left, leaving her to deal with her pregnancy alone. She didn't trust him not to take off again, leaving her and Garrett alone again. She also realized that their passion was still there and that she had never stopped loving him. During one of their confrontations she discovered why he left and was stunned at his reasons. She realized that her immaturity at the time had caused a lot of the problems they had. When Garrett was kidnapped they had to rely on each other for support and comfort and decided they needed each other in their lives. I wish there had been more about the ongoing mystery of the serial killer, but hopefully there will be in the next book.
A very nice little read, the plot involved a big misunderstanding, which the author wisely did not overplay. A very cute toddler, who wears cowboy pj's and loves his daddy's cowboy hat! I felt there were a few plotting issues, with some secondary characters issues " left hanging". (I.e. Mary, who ownes the dinner where the heroine works alludes to having a past that would get in the way of something with the local cop). All in all, a good lovers who are estranged but still love each other story.
Nick and Courtney were lovers at one time but hadn't seen each other in years. Nick comes back to Grady Gulch to help out the family and runs into Courtney who has been keeping a secret from him. There have been some murders in town and Courtney is being targeted by someone that brings here and Nick closer together. I have read some of Carla's books in the past and I greatly enjoyed this story. I recommend this book highly.
Nick and Courtney had history, but then Nick left town. What happens brings the past and future together. And little Garrett is adorable. And still there is the mystery of the waitresses being murdered. Wonderful story.
Courtney Chambers has a huge secret. Two years ago she showed up in Grady Gulch, Oklahoma, pregnant with no where to go. She's been working at the Cowboy Café ever since but no one knows who the father of her child is . One night her ex-boyfriend, Nick Benson, shows up out of the blue. Nick and Courtney had kept their relationship quiet because Courtney was fearful of what her society parents would say about her dating a cowboy. Fed up with being her dirty secret, Nick left town and hasn't been home in two years. His plan is to get the family ranch back on its feet and then head back to Texas. That is until he learns that he has a son with Courtney. Can Courtney and Nick put their past behind them and find love again?
There is something sexy about a cowboy. Make him into a doting father as well and Nick Benson becomes book boyfriend material. Not only is Nick a hard worker but his interactions with his son Garrett will have readers melting.
Courtney was extremely protective of her son and rightly so. She had no clue how long Nick was staying. Even though she should have contacted Nick when Garrett was born, it's understandable why she was hesitant to let Nick around him.
Besides the romance in this book, there is also some suspense. Courtney keeps thinking that someone is watching her. She even finds a mysterious box full of toys left outside her door for Garrett. She finally confesses to Nick her fears after she is in a car wreck and ends up in the hospital. There was a surprising plot twist as to who left the toys and watching Courtney that I did not see coming.
The Cowboy's Claim is the second book in the Cowboy Café series (this is not a standalone read ). This suspense filled, heart warming story will have readers engrossed from the first page. This is a great read for anyone who enjoys western romances or romantic suspense.
I recommend this book. If you have not read Her Cowboy Distraction I would recommend reading that book first.
Courtney Chambers works as a waitress at the Cowboy Café in the town of Grady Gulch, Oklahoma. Two years ago Courtney and Nick Benson were together and in love for about 6 months. Then his sister died in a car accident and he left town. He ran away without a backwards glance at his family or Courtney. Little did he know he left Courtney a little piece of himself when he left town. Courtney is just now moving on after giving birth to Nick’s son she now has a boyfriend in the town. He never contacted her after leaving and now he is back. He needs to help his brother on the ranch. Nick finds out she has a son and it is his. Now he wants to be involved. Will Courtney and Nick overcome their own issues about him leaving without a word 2 years ago to be able to raise Garrett? Another waitress is murdered from the café. Courtney crashes her car on the way to pick up Garrett one night after work at the sitters. Nick finds her after the sitter calls him but what happened that made her crash? When someone takes Garrett out of Courtney’s hotel room you have to wonder why? Is this about Courtney, Garrett, or Nick? To find out the answers to the below pick up the book: What really happened to make Courtney crash her car and why can she not remember? What will happen with Courtney and Nick? Does Daniel blame Nick for Sam trying to kill Lizzie? What happened between Courtney and her parents that she is waitressing at a café and trying to support Garrett on her own?
The biggest problem in this book for me was the "conflict" was mainly the lack of communication between the hero and heroine; they kept assuming what the other felt or thought or intended, they never actually fucking got around to actually ASKING or TALKING through their insecurities as a couple or problems.
This, for me, is a huge pet peeve of mine. Not only in books but in real life. Just fucking TALK to each other god dammit. It's not rocket science. Yeah, it's hard and embarrassing and MESSY talking about your feelings or where the relationship is going but are you really going to throw a relationship- love- away cause you don't want to open your mouth and say "im not happy about this situation" or "let's talk about our feelings"??? Really? Cause that's fucking childish to me.
A lot of the book was pretty much the two main characters moping and brooding about what they though the other felt or assuming they did this or that when in reality they had no fucking clue. They assume, assume, assume and it made things hard on both of them in the long run.
In the end, it WAS a good book; no editing/writing errors, the pacing was good, the little side conflict with the was well thought out (although a little forced but given the short page number i forgive that), and the characters weren't TERRIBLE. I just wished they'd talk things out a bit more like, you know, ADULTS.
I find Nick pretty careless and annoying. Mostly because he blamed the heroine for not telling him about the baby, when he's the one who left without words. I was like, look at the mirror, mister! And the murders in the city's not exactly helping with the plot. Could be better.
But overall, cute story. But it's bur enough to be my favorite though I find it pretty good. :)
I actually had been waiting to read this novel since the first novel in the series was so good. I actually thought this one was good but I can't say I was too impressed with it, certain parts bored me unfortunately. Others kept me on the edge. Overall it was decent.
Nick Benson returns to Grady Gulch to help his brother with the family ranch. He finds out that his former girlfriend had his son while he had been away. There is a lot of fence mending to do, with misunderstandings on both sides. A quick, feel-good read.
Nick left town after his sister died. what he didn't know was that he was leaving a pregnant young girl (whose family disowned her) to fend for herself and his son. he is back and she is pissed. he starts build a relationship with mom and baby. baby gets stolen. he saves the day. HEA.
O-M-G, this book was soo sweet. Loved it, the main protagonists and a baby who behave appropriately aged. lol. Great read. Can't wait to read the novel that solves the murders.
