Jordan Andrews is the kind of girl who likes to deal with her problems by running away from them.

Now broke, she’s forced to return home and face her past. There, she discovers her biggest problem: her twin brother, Parker is missing. With the help of their childhood friend, Owen and his sister Madison, Jordan attempts to track Parker down. The tricky part? Demons seem hell bent on killing her at every turn.

Eve's Return by Crystal Bourque is the first book in the Book of Eve series, and let me just say wow. Jordan, the main character, comes home from a year abroad to find her parents murdered, her twin brother missing, and her life in shambles. When she starts seeing hallucinations that are real, she decides to seek out her brother.

She doesn't find him, but she does find help and together, she and her friends must battle demons and figure out why there's a guardian angel telling Jordan that its her job to save the world.

Jordan is a complex character full of bitter feelings and broken dreams. She's not the kind of girl that's the save-the-world type. Embittered by her last fight with her family and her brother, she's got to get over old wounds in order to move forward. Jordan is distrustful and feels like everyone she's ever loved has left her for better things, and she just might be right. But it's not quite what she thinks. And it's up to Jordan to decide how far she'll go to save those precious few who stay by her side.

I must say, the ending surprised me. I thought I had it figured out, and then in the last few chapters everything went all sideways. Totally awesome!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and the first thing I want to direct your attention to is the super awesome cover art! Seriously, just look at that adorable little imp in her hands. It just screams "Snuggle me!" The actual imps in the book, however, are more likely to scream "Rip, rip, rip"!

The story follows Jordan Andrews, a young woman who returns home penniless and angry. Of course things only get exceedingly more terrible. Following the discovery of a gruesome murder, Jordan is forced to confront people from her past in her need to find her sketchy twin brother ... and to survive the malevolence attacking her life.

An enjoyable read! I did at times want to shake or slap a few characters, and I was unsure of the turn the story took but I'm curious to see what happens next. Especially since I found the 'bad guy' to be rather intriguing... Must. Know. More.

The ending saved it. Barely. I’m still kind of mad at the annoying mc and all her very annoying friends and family. The magic was barely explained. There were too many reveals all at once at the end, and they didn’t feel very real “in ‘verse”. And it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.

Will i read the second book? …(probably not.). I hate leaving a downer review on a book with so few reviews, but maybe someone else will love it? It just wasn’t for me. I’m also in a reading slump currently so there’s that, too.

I have to admit the book surprise me a little bit. Not only was it easy to read, but it also had surprising twists I hadn't expected which I like. I actually can't wait to read the second book in the series.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not really sure going in would like this book but did like it. Once I allowed myself to settle in and enjoy it was a good read. It was not always as credible, but I was able to enjoy the story for what it was and I am glad I read it! I will continue to read to read the series!

Eve's Return straight gets down to business; the first scene is Jordan arriving home only to find something shaking, something big that turns her life upside down. It's actally so big that I can't properly summerize the plot without bulging it therefore I will head into the review at once, too without spoiling.

Despite the quick start, the story unfolds quite slowly. We get bits and pieces of information here and there along Jordan's journey as she meets people from her past as well as strangers and gets attacked by weird creatures time to time and we also find out about their relationship with her, her-exboyfriend, Owen, and her brother, Parker. (I loved that part by the way. It was more than surprising and not the most relevant to the story, but, to me, it added a lot to it. ) There's also a thread for the past, initially for the above mentioned three, later for the world building's sake. And for a while, it's enough. Exciting even. The one-at-a-time kind of information giving keeps us wanting to find out more and the attacks serve us with action to keep our eyes glued. However, at about the half of the book, the enthrallment of the action worn off and it started to feel repetitive and dragged out. Attack, everybody gets injured, attack, everybody gets injured, attack, everybody gets injured, and it goes on and on and on with some tiny bit of world building inbetween and I began to have to push myself through the rest, only to have real motion in the last twenty pages. But then unfortunately it was already too late to pique my attention back.

As for the characterisation, I didn't get it at all. The main problem was that I wasn't fond of Jordan or could connect with her. She acted like a complete selfish, self-pitying, coward jackass for the first 2/3 of the book and for the rest, I just didn't care. I understand that she had a harsh period of life, but she isn't the first person on Earth to be broken up with, but even apart from that nothing that happened to her justified her behaviour. And in spite of that, all the other characters - or the ones that weren't evil from birth - supported her, loved her and helped her by any means. The only more complex character was Levi, who I still can't decide if was good or evil. Probably neither for a change. And then there's Parker who went somewhat, pretty unbelievably, overboard with his jelousy. It made him look simply cruel on an impossible level.

Also, although the story is in Jordan's POV in third person, I was given the impression that I would have worked out better in first person. Especially in situations where we would have been better off getting into the FMC's head, but the enormous amount of talking to herself may prove me as well.

There wasn't much romance in the story, some kisses and musing over romantic relationship, but frankly, I didn't miss it. The plot didn't need it, it was fairly well off without it, too.

In the end, the thing I appreciated the most was the world building. Though there are pending questions left, by the end of the book a decent part of it got revealed and I was pleased with what we had; demons, imps, supernaturals with supernatural power, salt and possession. Sheer cool. Later on, the Biblia got involved in a way I found rather intriguing even though I don't often read books that based on religion.

In conclusion, I see potential in Eve's Return, and probably will continue with the series when the next book comes out.

Firstly I will admit that I didn't have the highest hopes for this book going in. The cover art is a little cheesy and I wasn't sure what to make of the title. The first couple of chapters seemed like your standard murder mystery fare and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to continue reading as this wasn't really a topic I was interested in. The second half of this book was actually impressive. It really did deliver something unique and I appreciate that. The plot went in a direction I really did not expect and the characters grew on me. I can honestly say I will be looking for the sequel!

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway!

First off there better be a second book and soon, like NOW soon!

I honestly didn't think I would enjoy this book nearly as much as I did. You know that saying never judge a book by its cover, this is the perfect example of why. The cover doesn't grab you and pull you in like some, in fact it made me think the book was going to be..... well for lack of a better word, bad. With a cover that looks like juvenile photoshop (sorry to the artist :/) , I wasn't looking to find much on the pages, boy was I wrong.

The first page of Eve's Return captured my attention, by the end of the first chapter, I didn't know what to expect and I couldn't put it down. From the moment Jordan sang " I'm going to rip, rip, rip them out" I was enthralled, I had no clue where the story was heading but I couldn't wait to get there.

Jordan's world is shattered by a horrible tragedy and the remaining pieces twisted into an unrecognizable ball of crazy, but she doesn't let it break her. She bites her cheek and moves forward. After a devastating discovery, disturbing thoughts, and horrifying hallucinations Jordan puts aside her 4 year long grudge to find the one person who can help her though the mess that is her life, her twin brother Parker. Her trip leads her down a dark path, that is intertwined with dangerous destiny she's not sure she wants. Along the way her already shattered heart takes a beating once more, she meets a mysterious stranger that she is drawn to in ways she can't explain and discovers a new world that is equally thrilling as it is terrifying.

Jordan story takes you on a wild ride with a biblical twist that keeps you want more and rooting for the dark side (at least I did, but honestly who wouldn't with Levi leading the charge?).

** I was given an ARC of this book in return for an honest review**

I read this cold and had no idea of a plot or characters so I can say with all honesty,I was not expecting that at all. In the first few pages I thought it might have been a story about a broken girl and how she dealt with her family but it was that and much more. I had not seen the cover either so the first appearance of the imps confused me but then i was off on a crazy ride of demons and religious ideas I had long forgotten about.

The story had a few spots that were slow but for the most part the pace was good and I read it quickly, in one sitting. It was interesting and the twist at the end did exactly what was intended. I will most certainly be on the look out for the sequel.

I really enjoyed reading this. It had a great opening which grabbed my attention; odd things jolted me and created a menacing and creepy atmosphere. I didn't much care for Jordan initially but the story unfolds at a good pace and she won me over as the book progressed. I was rooting for her at the end.

Great first novel - the writing is clean and tight in a "reads itself" sense - and I'm looking forward to sequel (which is set up beautifully!)

Won from goodreads
Jordan and Parker are twins but really quite different as Parker just goes his own way.
Jordan leaves home as she's in love with Owen but he only likes her as a friend.
The story begins Jordan comes home to a tragedy and thinks she is seeing things but are they really there or just her mind playing tricks.
I enjoyed the story and how jordans character grows with confidence and wanting to help her friends.
Worth a read look forward to a sequel

An excellent example of turning myths and legends upside-down. Bourque created a NA heroine who comes home to find one world ruined and a new one opened up to her, and who stumbles as she tries to walk the line between them. She vividly describes a horrific world hiding parallel to this one, using originality instead of worn-out supernatural stereotypes. Creepy and addictive.
