Christopher Smith is the author of the #1 international bestselling The Fifth Avenue Series, The Bullied Series, You Only Die Twice, and The Cul-de-Sac. He has sold over 3.5 million books worldwide in eighteen different languages. He lives on the coast of Maine.
This was my first time reading a book by this author, but I can say that I can't wait to read more of his work. I got to a point in this book where I didn't want to put it down because I was wanted to know what was going to happen. If you like murder mystery with twists this is a must read book for you.
If you're into thrillers and mysteries do not hesitate to pick up this book. I'm delighted to have found this author a few months back thanks to a free offering on Amazon, and I've been hooked ever since. He does not disappoint. Each novel just gets better and better and "A Rush to Violence" is his best to date. In my opinion, it is just as good as any book you would go to the bookstore and pay 30 bucks for.
Mr. Smith is not your run-of-the-mill "indie" author. You will not find the usual blatant self-publishing errors that scream at you from the page. I have found that while there is usually promise in a story or plot, many (dare I say most) of the time it is just not executed well; the books are wrought with grammatical and spelling errors, typos (really? typos? in the world of spellcheck?) the plot does not flow, and the formatting is horrible. NOT the case with Mr. Smith's works. They are professional, polished, and a pleasure to read.
The publishing world is changing, I think in an exciting way for authors and readers alike, and I feel it is important to support these talented, promising authors who are trying to get off the ground. A few years ago I probably wouldn't have found this author until a major publishing house picked him up (and trust me they will), if at all. I want Mr. Smith to be able to keep those stories coming!! Do yourself a favor and stop digging through the coal for that diamond, I'm handing you one right now in "A Rush to Violence". You won't be disappointed.
A most interesting plot. A multimillionaire dies, supposedly in an accident, and his one daughter, a former assassin, and her daughter are left his entire estate. Her siblings are left a disowning letter read with the will and are made tertiary beneficiaries after her and her daughter's deaths. A PI is hired by a mysterious man to locate this woman, and his extended family are threatened with death unless he locates her within two days. Then his family (with the exception of his current wife who is with him) are taken prisoner to ensure his capitulation to the man's demands. At this point everyone suspects the family of having murdered the original victim and his granddaughter (age 16) sets out on a quest to avenge his death unbeknownst to her mother. Meanwhile the PI's daughter (age 15) takes charge of the prisoners (four adults and her younger sister) and begins her quest for their freedom. The plot has some more twists and turns in it and will keep you reading. This was a good escapist novel.
I downloaded this a while back when it was free for kindle but for some reason put off reading it - perhaps having never heard of the author and the fact that I found it slight oddly written at first were to blame. However before I reached the end of the first chapter I was hooked - who was it in the millionaires hallway.
Was his ex-hitwomen daughter all she seemed to be - completely reformed and doting on her daughter and Dad, were his kids really that full of greed they would kill and just who was Carr were just a few questions running around my head just a few chapters in.
If you like a fast paced novel, that is full of action from start to finish and likes to throw out a few twists and turns then definitely give A Rush To Violence a try.
More from the freebie pile. Fifth book in a series, but stands well enough alone. This was a decent thriller that kept me engaged all the way through. Is the story believable? Nah. Prepare to do some serious suspension of disbelief. If you can manage that it's pretty entertaining.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so . Shelley MA
A millionaire dies suspiciously and leaves his fortune to one of seven children, who lives in seclusion. PI Spellman is hired to find that daughter, with a hitch. His family is being held hostage and one will die every 72 hours that she is not found.
The daughter, a former assassin, suspects a sibling killed the father for the money and is now after her and her daughter because the will stipulates that on their death the fortune be split among the other siblings. She has plans of her own for revenge. The hostages, held in a basement, manage to overcome one of the abductors, gaining a weapon and buying time against the other kidnappers. The assassin's daughter takes matters into her own hands.
A fast-paced story with intriguing characters and plot twists at every turn. I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading the next in the series.
This book lost all touch with reality from the start.
I kid you not. Mass murdering teenage girls. A family and friends who knows every possible counter-kidnapping technique. Who ends up kisnapped. Yeah.....
A billionaire who only likes one of his six children. Everything in this book is so improbable that it ends up working. Once you leave logic at the door this is a highly entertaining read. I know right? I was shocked to find myself keeping on turning the pages. Going go girl every now and again.
I do however repeat. Teenage girls might be a murderous group and I am glad I don't have a girl.
For a free Kindle book this was a pretty awesome find. It kind of read like an action movie or tv thriller, with genre tropes: one scene with over-the-top explosions in particular. But I enjoyed the way the story managed to maintain a kind of crazy energy, sort of the kind of thing that made me watch "24" compulsively. Even if, in the end, the book was a straightforward thriller, it seemed to be always teetering on the brink of insanity, or about to play havoc with my willing suspension of disbelief. And like a good schlocky thriller, it ends with a cliffhanger.
Sixteen years after having left the life Camille teams up with Sam again and oh boy, are we in for a treat! With its fast pace and gripping storyline A Rush to Violence is my personal favorite in the 5th Avenue series so far. There's Marty and Jennifer protecting their extended family and Camille and Sam getting theirs together. The stories entwine in unexpected ways and all works out in the end, cliffhanger included. Because of the perfect finish this great read deserves 5 stars. Mr. Smith is just getting better and better. Eagerly awaiting the follow up!
I had never heard of Christopher Smith before, but I got this book as a free Kindle download through Amazon.
From page one of this book, I was completely captivated. It held my attention with all of the twists and turns, and the thrilling conclusion had me wishing I had the next book in the series to read immediately!
I will definitely be reading more of Smith's thrillers-they are all on my "to-read" list!
Another gripping story from Christopher Smith. . . Set in Manhattan among the wealthy as well as the deadly, the death of a billionaire is considered an accident. That is until the reading of the will when six of his children then become suspects while his seventh inherits it all. Beautifully written, the reader deals with so many emotions from compassion to abject horror. Kudos to Mr. Smith who has become one of my favorite authors!
I've never read this author before, but I was pleasantly surprised. The story moved quickly, and the action kept a good pace. While there were very few unexpected twists, the pace more than made up for that fact. The ending is somewhat of a cliffhanger, meaning I may have to read more books by this author.
Rush To Violence was the perfect title for this book. The whole book was a big rush...action packed. But I was a little disturbed by the violence that was committed by the teens in the book....being the way of the world I suppose it worked, but it still saddened me. But I would rate it very highly.
BRILLIANT, LOVED IT, really really upset to find that book 2 not out till 2013 - I WANT TO READ IT NOW!! Well written, good story, could not put it down. Now want to read more by Christopher Smith. Cannot recommend it highly enough, if you like thrillers read this book - or any other by Christopher Smith that you can get hold of.
Loved that it had multiple plots. Loved how the author resolved them all at the same time. It reads as a stand alone but I imagine one would appreciate the characters a bit more if you start with the first book. The ending appears to set up the next book. Nice way to tie them together, makes you want to pick up the next one. Good stuff.
The title says it all...violence. That was not what I dropped a couple of stars for, however. In the book the author has two teen-age girls acting more sophisticated than many of the adults around them. It was a bit of a reach to believe what the girls were not only doing, but capable of doing it. If you don't mind that, the book is a fast-paced good read.
Christopher Smith is an excellent author. I was kept guessing through out this entire book. I couldn't predict what was going to happen, it kept my attention. I found out after reading this book that there are other books with this same character. I will be picking those up next.
Love Christopher Smith. He knows how to tell a story and delivers suspense and intrigue. A Rush to Violence was all that and more. The only reason i gave it 4 out of 5 stars is just because I wanted it to end differently. But that is only my opinion. A great book!!
This is the fourth in his series that started with Fifth Avenue. I LOVED this! It was the best ever. Every chapter was exiciting from beginning to end. I don't remember any book ever making my cry! This one brought tears to my eyes! Keep writing Christopher and I will keep reading.
Well written, as usual. Marty Spellman would be a PI I would choose to use, should I ever need one. However, the antagonist(s?) in this novel did not think their plans through thoroughly. Never, ever corner a man.
Christopher Smith at his best, suspense and great characters all rolled up in one storyline....Didn't seem to fit in with the Fifth Avenue Series though, just bit mentions of previous characters, but this one definitely had me at the edge of my seat.
This book was a fast paced, put you on the edge, can't put down kind of book. My first advice is don't do what I did, don't start reading it at 9 o'clock at night. Put it this way. I finished it, got to sleep at 4 am. I loved this book, the lose of sleep was worth it!
First Christopher Smith book for me to read; I received it through a free-Nook book offer. I will watch for more books by Smith. My ratings are a little tight. I don't give 4-star ratings very often; 5-star are reserved for my favs.
First time reading this author, and I am so glad I gave this book a chance.....Half way through I had a very hard time putting it down, wanted to see how it was going to end! It didn't disappoint me! I am really looking forward to reading more books from this author.
Excellent book. Major page turner. A PI is kidnapped, micro chipped, and given 72 hours to find an heiress to billion dollar fortune or his family will be killed. Seems the heiress is being sought by her siblings because they were disinherited by dad. Lots of money paying for lots of bodies.
