The Book of Undoing encourages immediate recognition of our shared true nature. It is an experiential journey, wherein the reader follows a mock client's Awakening Session with the author. These sessions have helped people around the world come to Nondual realization. It's suggested that the reader actively participate in the question and answer sessions which form the bulk of the book. Fred extends the invitation for you to awaken right here, right now. It's Here or nowhere. It's Now or never.
Non-dual awareness refers to a state of consciousness in which the usual perception of separation between the self and the external world dissolves. It's often described in spiritual traditions, such as Advaita Vedanta, Zen Buddhism, and certain contemplative practices, as an experience where the mind is no longer bound by dualistic thinking (such as "I" versus "you" or "inside" versus "outside"), resulting in profound clarity, peace, and insight into the nature of reality.
Non-dual awareness is typically attained/sustained via meditation practice. But it can also be elicited via an experienced teacher “pointing-out” the experience in conversation, thereby guiding the other into a non-dual state.
This book is a reenactment of the 1:1 non-dual awakening work Fred Davis does with clients. It is written in a second person dialogical form that emulates a series of conversations between the author and a fictional client. Whereby the author engages the client in non-dual pointing out practices intended to promote the experience of non-dual awakening.
Fred Davis cites various non-dual teachers (such as Adyashanti) as inspirations. But claims to have awoken spontaneously, in part as a consequence of his recovery program. And as such claims no particular affiliation to any of the no-dual teachers/traditions.
Given that.
His exercises and teachings and metaphors are very original, and surprisingly fresh and effective.
Seemingly oversimplified but isn't that the point. Helping one to understand they have it, they are it, being aware and nothing else is needed. Worth a read because unless you are awake the guide can be confusing especially for those who don't even know the term non-duality
Out of all of Fred Davis' books, which tend to be a little similar, I would take this first one as the best and most memorable. The format is via a teacher/student interview session looking at 'awakening' to the experience of out nondual nature and what the awakened state may look like. There's some very good pointers contained in this book, and I'd recommend for anyone currently interested in self-inquiry, nondual inquiry, etc. The most memorable section of the book would have to be the pointer and investigation into the basic fact of whether one is 'awake' or 'conscious' right now, and what the nature of that wakefulness actually entails. Fred has done a good job with the dialogue and book overall.

Fred and his composite client "Brooke" walk through a direct pointing session and subsequent followups as Brooke goes in and out of the natural process of awakening.
An excellent and practical book with a readable format that I have not seen before with respect to the composite client. It is like being a fly on the wall for a well run and crisp series of sessions. The interaction between Fred and the composite client gets to the heart of the matter as the content based on Fred's experience with many many clients. I found the book digestible and useful.
Very straightforward and enjoyable. Having read a lot on the subject I suppose I have it heard it before, but never with such a simple and profound explanation. Thank you, I pray that I may carry forward what I have learnt from reading this book.

Thy kingdom come. Let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind

My first exposure to the topic of non-duality. Interesting approach in describing the theory but leaves me with more questions than it should ... I prefer presentation of theory with examples. This is a host/client approach with more emphasis on awkward dialog than substance. AND, the audio is painful!!! The reader is too much of an actor. I wanted to rip my hair out listening to her ... overacting for sure.
Up til now, I think this is the best book on Non-duality I've come across. It's fairly short and concise but packed with pointers and instruction, touching on the nature of consciousness, personality, reality, and awakening. Fred Davis has a gift for teaching, his prose is clear and enlightening, and gave me little "aha" moments.
