Grief counselor Lauren Trousdale has no choice but to take her work home with her. A near-death experience left her with the ability to not only see, but also communicate with ghosts. The gift isn’t one she dares reveal to anyone – certainly not to Dr. Ethan Bailey, the man she can’t stop dreaming about. The ghosts are mostly kind, lost souls, but when a lovely, exotic dream about Ethan turns into a nightmare, Lauren wakes to an ice-cold room and the fear that she’s not alone. Ethan’s attraction to Lauren blooms the first time he sees her. As they grow closer, he realizes she is hiding something, but never expects her secret to be a ghostly stalker. Ethan’s only concern is protecting Lauren, but when the ghost becomes violent, Ethan must risk everything to save her. Can Lauren let him take that risk alone?

New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee was raised in Washington State, but after graduating from high school, she moved to Southern California with hopes of becoming a movie star. After growing bored with waiting tables, she returned to school and became a registered nurse, spending most of her career in urban emergency rooms. She now writes full-time and has penned the International Bestselling Not Quite series, the MacCoinnich Time Travel series as well as the Internationally Bestselling Weekday Brides series.
Her books have been translated in over twenty languages.
Possesive was a sexy and suspenseful story that captured my attention from the beginning. It contained supernatural element since the heroine is a "ghost" whisperer who helps the dying cross over to the other side. The twist here is that Lauren is being haunted by a ghost who wants to possess her and things escalate and becomes more violent as she embarks on a relationship with Ethan. As their relationship gets more serious, they need help to exorcise the ghost in order to get a happy ending. I loved that Ethan and Lauren took things slowly and their dates were romantic and the build-up to making love had me swooning. The story had just the right amount of romance and excitement to satisfy my romantic suspense addiction.
I didn’t know what I was expecting from this book. This is not a normal story I would read but I’ve loved all of her books so I figured I’d give it a chance. If this is your type of story I’m sure you’ll enjoy it but it’s not for me.
I really liked it but I felt like it needed another 50 pages to get the normal feel of Catherine's books I actually wanted to give it 3.5-4 stars but I just couldn't I felt shorted on this story normally her books I feel like all the characters develop relationships with each other and are some what realistic as fantasy can be but I mean in the people level or the relationships
This book was a wonderful surprise to me. I really enjoy paranormal romances and this one didn't fail me. Not a fan of cats, I actually found myself really liking the cat character...who knew!
I have been addicted to Catherine Bybee for a long time now and this book was a totally new direction. I'm more used to her small town America books and read them till they're "dog eared" but have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed Possessive. I only gave it four stars simply because I wish it had been a lot longer. Loved the theme and the characters and hope to meet Dan again in the future. Going to buy the next paranormal one and see where that takes me.
If you can accept the premise of ghosts you will enjoy this quick read. I think the author captured the twist and turn (no pun intended) of ghosts, the unexpected consequences, and various solutions, with a light touch. I found this short story to be fun entertainment!
This is definitely a 5 star rating wow I wasn't sure if I was watching a horror film or not. I have never read a scary book before this really gripped me and I had the lamp on whilst reading, I would recommend this book to fantasy/horror fans. Thank you another first in my life from reading one of your books.
It was a super fast read. Maybe a little too fast for my liking, even for a novella. I liked the characters and, surprisingly, the plot. The ending felt a bit rushed and there's no epilogue so that's a bummer. All in all, it wasn't very good but it wasn't bad either. It was ok.
I've started delving into Bybee's back catalogue as I am running out of her contemporary romance novels having read them all. This is one of her short paranormal novellas. I liked the otherworldly twist, put a new spin on your typical romance. I look forward to reading her werewolf and time travel novels.
What a fascinating story!! Paranormal, strange, a little horrible and scary, but sweet as well. A very satisfying short read, with - thank heavens - a happy ending to their budding romance!! Definitely recommended.
Enjoyable short read. Although short, you don't feel like you missed a thing. Lauren has the ability to see and talk to ghosts. This has always helped her in your job as a grief counselor. Ethan, a doctor at that hospital where Lauren works, finally gets the nerve to ask Lauren out. He gets more than he bargained for when a not so nice spirit has chosen Lauren to "haunt and hurt". For Ethan seeing is believing. It's frightening with a bit of romance.
Except for a brief romance, this take involved a ghostly rape, a lover who did,by have a clue, and a a less than satisfying ending, th book left me cold. The best character was the cat. Some people may like ghost stories, but I don't.
I picked this book by Catherine Bybee because I have enjoyed reading so many of her other books. Although it kept my interest, I wasn’t expecting the path the book went down. It was short which was good but not the best super natural read.
Not sure what I was expecting. I don’t like novellas and I know Ms Bybee is an excellent story teller, but this novella was a bit confusing, though the ending was lovely. Reviewed by Heide Katros, Winter Haven News, Florida
The second half of the book was very rushed and lost credibility. Her other books are much better. This was my fourth Catherine Bybee and if it had been my first, there wouldn't have been a second.
