Curious Creatures is a Level 2 I Can Read book about Rain Forest Friends, Jungle Beasts, Polar Bears, and Curious Creatures Down Under. The format is conducive for the young reader. It defines terms in easy language using bullets and easy to read fonts. The illustrations are big and bold, suitable for eye catching children’s interest.

Sprinkled throughout the book is a Christian theme. For example, if people do not start taking care of God’s world, the Bengal tigers might not survive.

Highlighted facts about awareness for endangered species are included. For example, Logging, hunting, and habitat destruction have made the spider monkey an endangered species.

Integrated throughout Curious Creatures are common facts a young child would ask. For example, a toucan’s bill can measure up to 8 inches in length.

The child learns new vocabulary words in a stimulating manner using quotes. For example, if a jungle is “tropical”, it is usually hot and humid and can be very wet too.

The animals in their natural habitats are clear and vibrant, displaying their diet as they eat.

Curious Creatures is a wonderful learning experience for children.

Individual maps indicating the geographic location of the animals’ habitats would have enriched the book.

This hardcover book includes 4 of their previous “I Can Read!” titles about various animals around the world. This compilation contains Rain Forest Friends, Jungle Beasts, Polar Pals, and Curious Creatures Down Under.

Each of the four books features a brief introduction to the habitat and four animals from that environment. The format of the book is visually appealing with beautiful photos of the animals, main text introducing essential information, and extra “fun” facts in the margins. The main text provides straightforward, non-fiction information, written in a way appropriate for early readers. The extra facts touched on habitat information, gestation and family facts, eating habits, and provided me with new information, too.

I did notice that one statement was repeated in very similar form three times between two of the books, and there's one fairly big typo on one page. But, beyond that, the information is sound and interesting.

My kids loved reading through these pages, and this compilation can serve as a great starting point for learning about different animals.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through BookLook Bloggers in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Cassandra's Review- Cute and cuddly with a hug warning. All the kids enjoyed this book. It is filled with facts and cool stuff, but my most favorite things is the pictures. Every age group can enjoy this book but little kids would connect more I think. Easy to understand and hours of enjoyment and you can come back and re read or for bedtime.

The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Book Look Bloggers.
