This story is about a young Russian girl who wanted a porcelain doll but her parents wanted her to learn about strength and courage, so they said "no". She pretended a soup spoon and kerchief was a doll. What follows then are some interesting events.

I chose this book to read to my future students because it shows the empowerment of children in our world and I can teach my students to be anything that they want to be. Also, I love the illustrations and how they draw you in to read the book. I think that this book relates to me as a reader because of how independent and abstract the book is in general, explains what kind of reader that I am.

Interesting historical picture book about life in Russia. A girl wants a doll, but her parents want her to be strong and give her a toy rifle instead. But the little girl doesn't give up, she dresses up a spoon then later on the rifle as her "doll". At the end, the mother decides the girl was strong to keep wanting something even when she was against it.
