Darkfire by Victoria Knight
Victoria Knight has produced a well written short story. Darkfire begins with Olivia Hunter, a photographer getting a job to photograph the club scene and the specialty drinks at a popular nightclub called the Darkfire Club. Knight gives a vivid description of the club and the pulsating music. Your left with the impression or effect of actually feeling like you are at the club seeing and experiencing everything. Olivia meets the manager of the club Paul Lancer who she is taken with right away. You definitely felt the sexual tension between the two characters.
Raj is Paul’s head of security for the club. Paul also is the vampire that turned Raj. Raj is extremely upset because he used to be the one in charge in his human life and told everyone what to do. People looked up to him as a leader not as someone’s lap dog like he feels he is now. Raj decides to take his revenge on Paul and he devises a plan so Paul is stripped of everything he has worked for and has been given in his lifetime. This includes Paul’s newest interest, Olivia. Raj wants to kill Olivia and flaunt it in front of Paul’s face.
The story moved at a very quick pace. There were times when the story could have used more back story. There is very little explanation about things and characters, which makes the story lack substance. However, that is what you get when the story is a short story. I do think this would have made a great longer story.
If you are looking for a quickie, this is the book for you!
