Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881) was a Russian novelist and short-story writer. November 6, 2022I gave THE DEMONS a good attempt. It begins as a satire of the self delusions of Russian liberal class and the intelligentsia, so I had some hope for the book. However, it just became tedious plodding and I lost interest. I'm in my 70s now with only a few years left, at best. While I want to continue to explore great books, I am quicker now to pull the plug on any novel that does not arouse my interest on some level; great writing, an arresting situation or a gripping personality.
THE DEMONS checked none of my boxes and so, sadly, I cut it loose around page 50.

June 11, 2023Dostoevsky can be very tedious and wordy which I normally do not like but when it comes from him I like it a lot.
