Jessica Tamm is just trying to get ahead in life and escape the cloud of her father’s criminal past. Though, it’d probably help if she hadn’t taken a job managing a club owned by the head of the local Irish mob. As far as she’s concerned, her own discomfort is a minor price to pay to earn the money she needs for her sister’s education. Unfortunately, the Russians interested in taking over local organized crime don’t seem to care that her job has nothing to do with the criminal world of her boss.
Monitoring the Russian and Irish mobs is just another step in the promotion ladder for cop Kace Allen, or at least that's what he keeps telling himself. Babysitting a mob boss club isn't what he’d call a fun time, but the scenery, particularly the sexy manager, is nice. Too bad he can't trust the daughter of a criminal who works for a criminal. He’s sworn to uphold the law, and no one, not even a beautiful woman, has made him question that before.
When the temperature rises between the Russian and Irish factions and Jessica’s caught in the middle, Kace starts to see the lines between good and bad, law-abiding and criminal, are a lot blurrier than he ever realized.
Madison currently lives with her husband and two children in the Valley of the Sun. Phoenix, Arizona. After leaving the frozen tundra of the north, Madison was more surprised than anyone with how much she has enjoyed living in the desert. Seeing as she had stated on more than one occasion how much she hated the heat, it was an odd move. But it seemed her hatred for sub-zero temps and ice, or really the things that ice could do, won out in the end. When she’s not writing, she’s enjoying time with her family. Madison and her family frequent festivals in the area, as well as local cultural events, and spend time with family in the area. In the summer she is most likely to be found in the pool with the family and in the winter by the fireplace. Since both her children are autistic, days can be a little chaotic but with her husband beside her, there’s nothing she can’t handle. Luckily he is also an author and able to share in all the activities (and chores) special needs kids require. Madison has a full schedule of releases planned for 2014 listed and updated on her blog: http://madisonstevens.blogspot.com/ Newsletter Sign-up: http://eepurl.com/OX9r5
I liked this 2nd book in the Allen Securities series. Although still a short read, Kace felt more complete and characters have more depth than the first book, Reed. Kace is Reed's brother and a cop and Jessica manages a club owned by the Irish mob who are in the midst of a war. Kace is a typically by the book, black and white kind of guy but Jessica surprises and intrigues him. I also liked the background a story of Finn and Alyssa who I believe have their own book. Will definitely continue reading this series.
Diva's review *** stars! The second in Madison Stevens Allen Securities. I'm loving the characters but I did have a few issues with this story. Even though I loved Kace and Jessica's story it felt like the story line was taken from the first book and altered a little. They were too similar and again with the fast cut off. I'm hoping that Liam's story brigs it back around. They are great quick reads and the men are hotttt.....
Wait...does Finn get his own book! I don't see a book titled Finn. Well, this was still a great book. Turns out I'm a mega fan of Madison Stevens. Gonna find Facebook pages to stock.
I tried to be open minded with this book but it just wasn't happening. Jessica was annoying with how she judged Irene for not jumping in bed with Ryder. She's a lot more brash than she appears to be and expects people to be like her which really bothered me. Just because Jessica and Olivia like to move fast into sex doesn't mean it's for everyone. Irene is a much more refreshing character because she's wary about dating someone new and there's nothing wrong with that, in fact it's more realistic to see someone who doesn't throw themselves all over a guy simply because he's attractive and interested. Irene isn't interested in just sex and is a lot more smarter than Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. She's careful because of her own experiences and probably wants to be shown that Ryder is serious about her and that he won't hurt her before she takes him up on his offer. Not everyone can be convinced that their feelings are real by sex, some people need REAL feelings that come BEFORE sex.
“Jessica rolled her eyes. “Is she still avoiding him?” “Yup.” Victoria leaned against the door frame. “She usually has me or Taylor wait on him.” “Hiding behind her cousin and a family friend.” Jessica shook her head. “If she’s not interested, she needs to just say something.” Victoria thought for a moment. “I don’t really think that’s the problem. She’s just so shy when it comes to him.” “Well, she’s going to have to face that sometime,” Jessica said.”
She's not forcing Ryder to chase after her and isn't leading him only to shut him down, he chose to pursue her and make his interest known. If he stops, then it's up to her to decide to let him know if she wants to try or not. She doesn't owe him an explanation or anything if he's the one trying to get her attention and she's unsure of what she wants. It'd be wrong of her if she purposely lead him on when she didn't know if she liked him or not. Jessica is just a really b*tchy, judgmental, bully that I will never like. So, she can screw around with Kace after knowing him for a couple of days no problem but if feelings start to get involved, then it becomes a sticky situation. Gag! I'm not even gonna go into detail on the last scene. Long story short, she dismisses a possibly innocent man's life as "some poor sap" to help her father in the end, comes into some money, enough to quit on the spot, unprofessionally leaving Finn without a manager, dumps her job onto poor Alyssa as a solution, cuz you know it's not like she is gonna be in recovery for a while anyway, and practically begs her to move in with her sister so she can conveniently move in with Kace and so she doesn't feel guilty that she's leaving her sister. So, she is also incredibly selfish as well doing things for her own benefit.
Kace was well enough but I feel so bad that he's blinded by an ugly witch in disguise. He was more likable than Reed for sure but he's definitely not so smart in picking his women. One thing about him that really stood out to me though was my respect for him not following the crowd and just working for his brother like everyone else. He had heart, honor, and ambition when it came to his job. I think that's where the author shined in this book. She portrayed his passion very well of wanting to go into law enforcement because of events that truly affected him as a person and in life as well as what being a police officer has done for him and made him feel accomplished and proud. I admire that he's his own person and went his own way in life rather than just being another member of Allen Securities. I did think he jumped in way over his head with Jessica though and wish he would have seen how much better he could do than settling for her or thinking she was a rare find. I just feel like he's too kind-hearted for her where she's just plain selfish and judgmental not only to people she doesn't know but to her own friends too.
This was a bit better than the last book made possible by the secondary characters mostly. So far, the girls I actually like are Alyssa and Irene and the only men I like at this point are Kace and Ryder. A couple of others I just don't know enough about them yet and the rest just flat out don't like them period. Olivia, Jessica, and Reed, are all on my sh*t list, Finn, Meg, and Liam I'm not a fan of right now but have the potential to prove themselves to me. The actual story was ok but it wasn't too exciting. Even the twist at the end was a little bland, but that might be partly because I just wanted to be done with Jessica. I did feel bad for Finn, but I'm not exactly sure how much of a hit to the heart it was because we didn't get enough background on his family. A lot of the time I feel like I missed a previous connecting book or character introductions because the name is just randomly thrown out there with the basic information to tell who they are. Hopefully this changes with later books. I won't read this again but I'm glad I got to read it for Kace, Alyssa, and Irene. I'm hoping the author doesn't let me down with these girls books because I really like them.
So far I'm liking this series.. Kace is Reeds' brother ( really really big family). Kace is a cop (not a bad cop) things get complicated and Kace finally realizes there's a fine line between black and white and good and bad... not everything is as it seems and you do whatever is necessary to protect... These guys love hard and fast but in their world they have to take each day like it's their last... I mean come on it has Irish mobsters (yum), Russian mafia, A lot of hot stupid stubborn men lol, happy moments, stressful moments and OMG moments.... Now to read Finns' (He's my favorite so far lol)
Better than the first book. I loved Kace and Jessica as a couple. He is definitely an alpha male but Jessica is also a strong take no shit female! Mystery, romance, continued characters, medium in intensity sex scenes, good characters. This author just likes to end a story fast, like super fast. Your all into the drama and boom HEA the end no epilogue. Not a fan of how she ends her stories, I feel a little cheated at how abrupt these stories end. I'll try the next one in this series but if the ending is the same, itll be my last.!
If you are looking for an engaging Sunday read that doesn't require you to keep multiple plots up in air while you refer to your notes, (Game of Thrones) then suspend your disbelief and kick back with the Allen Securities series.
What a wonderful story of love, deception, and happiness. I am eager to see what happens with Finn and Alyssa but so happy for Kace and Jessica! It blows my mind that someone can say I love you so fast but when you have trials and brushes with death you tend to value your time. Good job!
4*s Another great book but again, could have been so much better if it was longer and we got some character depth and filler to the story. I will still continue with the series because I do actually like what is delivered - I just want more of it! =)
I liked Jessica she was tough even with all the mess that was going around. Kace had the protective hero quality and just wanted to protect her.I liked that everyone was there and we found out Olivia was pregnant too cute.
I not sure when this series came out (did not look) but am .enjoying them a little short but a good story stopping at this one and going for Finn looks good. Happy Reading
The writing is somewhat sub-standard. Again the characterization is very inconsistent at times. overall I enjoyed the story enough to continue. Good thing I got them at a half-price sale.
