Amid a freak snowstorm, Texas rancher Damien Lambert made the unlikeliest find on his Bent Pine Ranch-a bloodied woman and her infant daughter in hiding. Though her story was transparent as ice, the heat he saw in her eyes made him offer her refuge. After a ruthless kidnapping and a harrowing escape, Emma Muran needed a hero…and the baby needed a home. She'd found both in Damien-the perfect man with a cowboy's swagger and a lover's touch-until he learned about the incredible danger they faced. After that, Emma knew it would take all the cowboy Damien had to keep her and the child alive.
Joanna Wayne began her professional writing career with the release of her first novel, DEEP IN THE BAYOU, in 1994, but Joanna will be the first to tell you that the wheels were set in motion years before. She started reading at four years of age, the same age that she began making weekly trips to the library to check out as many books as they’d let her have, only to finish reading them all before bedtime. That love of books never waned.
Joanna was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana and was the middle child of a large family. She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1984 when she married her current husband. New Orleans opened up a whole new realm of activities and she found the mix of cultures, music, history, food and sultry southern classics along with her love of reading a natural impetus for beginning her writing career. It was there that she attended her first writing class and joined her first professional writing organization. From that point on, there was no looking back.
Now, forty published books later, Joanna has made a name for herself as being on the cutting edge of romantic suspense in both series and mainstream novels. She is known for the suspense and emotion she brings to the page, as she takes ordinary people and thrusts them into life-and-death situations. She has been on the Walden Bestselling List for romance and won many industry awards. She is a popular speaker at writing organizations and local community functions and has taught creative writing at the University of New Orleans Metropolitan College.
She currently resides in a small community forty miles north of Houston, Texas with her husband. Though she still has many family and emotional ties to Louisiana, she loves living in the Lone Star state.
I really love the intrigue books and this one was no exception. Once I started the book I just couldn't put it down.
Damien Lambert is the kind of gentleman that every girl wants to meet. He is kind, generous and extremely good looking. Sometimes. those types need to be avoided or at least those are the thoughts going through Emma's head after what she went through with the last guy she met.
If you enjoy a good read, you need to check this out.
I loved this book!! I thought that it was a great read and I finished quickly. it did start off a little slow for me but definitely picked up as the book went on. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
Very good book. I thought Emma was very resourceful in getting away from her kidnapper and rescuing the baby along the way. Her rescue by Damien was just what she needed, though she didn't want to draw him into her problems, and intended to leave the next day. When she finally trusted him enough to tell him the whole story Damien went into full protector mode. He had known she was lying with the first story, but still felt that she needed his help. I liked the way that they worked together to get Caudillo. I also liked the fact that they didn't act on their attraction until the problem was solved. I loved Damien's family and the way that they cared for each other. I'm looking forward to stories for the other two brothers.
In Wayne’s romantic suspense novel, Texas rancher Damien Lambert stumbles across an unexpected find on his Bent Pine Ranch—an injured woman and child stranded in a snow storm. Emma Duran provides a transparent and unbelievable story that leaves Damien beyond certain there’s more to the story than meets the eye. But after being kidnapped and surviving an amazing escape, Emma needs a hero and Damien is willing to play the part until he uncovers the truth. As they navigate a minefield of murder, deceit and danger, Damien is determined to save both woman and child from a ruthless killer.
This first installment to the Big D Dads series is fast-paced and suspense filled.
I took a star away from this story for logic failures. 1. An international arms smuggler, worth billions, has an ATF senior agent in his pocket. Logic fail - kidnapping a low-level ATF tech agent to get access to codes. Why did he need to kidnap this woman...duh! Needed a woman to make it a romance. 2. The CIA, FBI, ATF, and loads of other agencies can't stop this smuggler. However, the wealthy rancher who finds the escaped agent manages to do it.
The heroine escaped hell and her captor, only to show up on the heroes ranch with a baby in tow. When the hero eventually got the story out of her, he claimed he would help her and help her he does. In fact his whole family helps her and baby Belle. Just when they think they are out of danger, her captor shows up..
It wasn't a very good book. Huge chunks were missing, ends were not tied up. I was disappointed. Pretty shitty book. Not well written.
I read this book in 1 day. The story moved along quickly and the ending leads to another story. Now that Emma is a "WIDOW" she inherits all the wealth, a fabulous yacht, and an island. When she marries Damien she brings her fortune to him and they then become fabulously wealthy. What do they do with this fortune? Adopting Bell is not going to be a problem when you have that much money. What then.... turn the island into a corporate retreat? The follow up story should be great (If there is one).
I have read this author's books before and will continue to do so in the future. Her cowboys are always following the cowboy way of saving the damsel in distress.
