This is a very sweet and emotional love story. Will post review tomorrow ......
Saved By You Kelly Harper
Thank you to Kelly Harper for the gift copy in exchange for an honest review.
I give this book 5 heart wrenching stars....
The conclusion to Maggie and Hayden was beautifully written. I will warn you that you will need a box of tissues because you will cry. I cried the ugly cry where your eyes are swollen and you take small short breaths in order to take one long breath.
Maggie has been dealt crappy cards her entire life. The only one consistent loving person she knows is her mother. They survived her father's abuse and abandonment and now Maggie faces losing her mother to cancer. Maggie also finds herself torn from spending time with the new love in her life, Haden, or spending time with her ill mother.
While Maggie is juggling her time between Haden and her mother, she is still waiting for the band to be prepared for the Battle of the Bands. Maggie really wants o spend quality time with her mom, but is forced to get out at times by her grandmother. Haden and his extremely hot body is the perfect distraction Maggie needs in order to forget about what is going on at home.
Maggie is forced to grow up quickly and make decisions that will affect hers and Haden's life forever. She wants Haden to live his musical dreams and she wants to keep her plan of going to college back in New York. She really finds herself torn and Kyle (Haden's best friend/ band member) is constantly there to help give advice on what is best for Haden. Maggie feels alone, scared and truly does not know what to do with her relationship with Haden.
Kelly Harper nailed a sweet romance with some hot sex between two characters that truly love each other. The story has many emotional moments that will twist your heart and make it beat quickly. I loved Maggie and Haden and their love story. Well done, Kelly Harper!!
Oh my stars and bars, I cannot remember a time when I cried so much. This time for Maggie and Hayden the emotional rollar coaster was wild. I've been were Maggie was watch your mother slip away, and not know which direction you should go. I have made some choice in my life that were safe when I should have followed my heart. I love how Maggie grew up through it all. I absolutly love this story and I give it a rousing 4.5 stars!!!! Now I hope to see Kyle's story some where, Hint! Hint!
I was honoured to receive an ARC of this book and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. It will make you laugh, cry and pull at your heart with everything it’s got.
Have your Tissues at the ready!
This story practically kicks off straight after the 1st book ended, the dreaded news Maggie heard about her mum,
she’s dying.
This book is full of emotion, good, bad, non-void. I feel like the word “Emotional” isn’t a good enough term to describe how Kelly makes you feel whilst reading this book.
There is so much going on between Maggie & her mum, Maggie & Haden, Maggie & Kyle.
You can feel the raw pain that Maggie is feeling whilst looking after her sick mum, she’s not only loosing her only parent but her best friend.
She seems to be isolating herself from Haden a bit as she is struggling to come to terms with her feelings. She’s trying to spend as much time as possible with the family she has left.
You see a little more of the real kyle in this. Him not being a completed dick for one, but he shows a little of his sensitive side, even though he gives Maggie a tough ultimatum,
I would like to maybe see a short/long novel about the life of Kyle. He’s quite intriguing and I want to learn about him. What makes him put a font on? What makes him tick? Why does he always have to put a show? I want to see how he & Haden became to be friends and what really happened between them to make Haden run halfway across the country…..Maybe something to think on! *Cough* *Cough*
Maggie & Haden have some tough decisions to make for not only their own future but as a future together (that’s if they stay together)
Kelly definitely knows how to pull at our strings, she knows how to keep the reader intrigued and second guessing everything.
This story can only have one saying…….. “The course of true love never did run smooth.” By the infamous William Shakespeare
The author gave me an ARC for an honest review......so here it is.
I loved the first book and this one was way better. Maggie and Haden have gotten deep in my mind lately. Maggie really has had her fair share of heartache and Haden is just looking for a normal life. Perfect rock love story. I will not get into the details as I don't want to spoil it for everyone but let just say the story is everything some one who loves rock romance is looking for. Love, heartache, despair and wanting all in one. Haden, the guitarist of a up and coming rock band is just trying to feel his way through to a normal life away from the bright lights and troubles in LA and Maggie....she thought she was visiting family in Texas for the summer. Along the way things kind of became.....difficult, to say the least. I cried a few times in the book and had to sit it down once just to take a breather. Kelly has a way with words that seems to make you feel like you are the person in the book and not just the one reading it. That is why I loved reading this one as I did the last one.. even more as I painted the final picture for me. My recommendation is to read this one and see for yourself just how great it really is. Good job again Kelly! Keep the stories coming.
Where to start? This review is about both books. Spoiler alert.....
In the first book, the relationship of Maggie and Haden really moved quickly. They fall in love within a week. However, I think you know when you know, right?! This story had new beginnings, forever good-byes, heartache, illness, love, family bonds and hard life changing decisions.
This book really hit close to home for me, with Maggie's mother. My mom passed away seven years ago from cancer. I connected with her when they found out nothing more could be done, hospice, coming home for the final days and letting go so she could be at piece in a better place.
Maggie was dealt with so much in her life and it seemed she never caught a break. However, her break finally came i therapy of a man named Haden. Great story! Thanks for sharing your talent with us Kelly. Oh yeah, loved the mention of Lee's Summit...I am from Kansas City ; )
Wow!! What a great conclusion to Ruined By You! Saved By You is the continuation of Maggie and Haden's story starting immediately at the conclusion of Ruined By You. This story will have you laughing, crying and yes, even yelling throughout the entire book.
Saved By You was very well written with again true to life character development. Believable emotions and confusion of a typical 18 year old trying to find her way through this crazy, confusing and difficult place we call becoming an adult. I would like to Thank Kelly for my ARC copy of both Ruined By You and Saved By You. What a wonderful heart warming story of finding your true love while dealing with life!
I was honored again by receiving an ARC from Kelly for an honest review.....
Yet again she didn't let me down!! This book had me chuckling, screaming at the characters, crying and hairs standing on end. Maggie will have you wanting to shake her, Haden will have you swooning and Kyle will have you wanting to punch him. Sad to see this love story end!!
Yes there were some spelling errors and missing words but it is so worth your time. Kelly is amazing at creating a story and sucking you in to a point where you just can't stop reading.
I fell in love with Haden and Maggie in the first book. But I love them both so much more after the second book. This book is full of love, romance, drama, and heartache. It is impossible to put this book down. Kelly you are a genius! Such a beautifully written story. I cried, laughed, and cried some more. Maggie is such a strong young woman who has had to endure a lot of heartache. So for her to get the happy ending was a huge relief for me. Great read! Absolutely loved it! Kelly thanks for the ARC!!!!
Once again, I really loved this book. I still loved the periperal characters and I think Sarah and Huck need their own book, Kelly. :) I loved how much Haden was willing to give up for Maggie. I also loved that there was interesting story that wasn't completely related to the love story. It felt like real life, where it is rarely as simple as just falling in love and making your other half your everything.
I think Kelly Harper is definitely an up and comer in this genre and I look forward to whatever she has coming next, just like I do with Abbi Glines and Jessica Park.
Saved By You is the conclusion to Maggie & Haden's story which began in Ruined By You. I was honored to receive an ARC of this book and I couldn't put it down until the very last word. It will make you laugh, cry and pull at your heart. This is a beautiful love story that shows you when you meet that ONE true love, don't have any regrets. We never know what life will throw at us so live, laugh, love with your whole heart. I highly recommend both of these books. Kelly Harper is awesome!!
First the writing is weak; there are a number of inconsistencies, a plethora of typos and missing words; and weak editing. The sex scenes between Haden and Maggie were not romantic enough for my liking. Sexy, yes, but not romantic
The story has good bones and the reader can definitely feel Maggie's grief, anger, guilt, etc. But there are points in the story that are unoriginal which could have been forgiven if the writing was stronger, but it wasn't.
UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE!!!!! THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME AND IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES....THIS WAS AN EPIC CONCLUSION TO RUINED BY YOU!!!!! IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT THEN GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!!!! KELLY HARPER YOU ARE DEFINETLY ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!!!!A!MUST!READ!!!!
Kelly Harper did it again. She did a fantastic job of writing the next part of the story. I read it all in one night because I couldn't put it down. It's a must read!!!!
What a sequel. I wasn't a fan of Ruined by You, but Kelly Harper blew me out of the water with Saved by You. I was able to connect with the characters and feel the emotion. Excellent sequel
Love this continued story about Maggie and Haden. Sometimes you make mistakes but learn how to fix them in the end to save you from letting go an important special someone.
This was a decent ending to their story. i will admit at times Maggie really got on my nerves. She didn't think rationally a lot. She got mad for really bad reasons. I tried to be understanding about her situation with her mother. However, I can only tolerate so much. I was just glad that it didn't take as long as I thought for them to fix their relationship. They got their HEA and that's what was important.
There is something about this story that really touched me! Maybe it's because Kelly Harper drew from her own experiences giving it a sense of reality and honesty. I was blown away by Ruined By You - Book #1 and literally left hanging with the ending. Thank goodness it wasn't all that long before Saved By You came out. I read this book in less than 2 days with work in between....I could NOT put it down!
Maggie is faced with heartbreaking, life altering events at the tender age of 18. Her life to this point has not been kind, having been abandoned by her abusive, cruel and un-loving father at a very young age leaving her and her mother to support each other. It was never easy but they were always there for each other..... that is until Maggie discovers her mother is dying! All her decisions about her future are now on hold as Maggie comes to grips with losing her mother, her relationship with Haden and her future education.
What really stood out for me in this book:
- The scenes between Haden and Maggie. Having read a number of NA romance novels I've been troubled by how mature and experienced they seem to be leaving me with that "I didn't know that when I was 18". But Kelly writes with such sincerity that even though their expressions toward each other are written simply and seemingly juvenile, it's actually perfect. Think back to when you were 18 and you'll understand what I mean. They are so young and I love how Kelly captures that innocence.
- Pattie's parting scene. All I'm saying here is that I have never sobbed out loud like I did reading this....
- Family unity/friendship. As Maggie says...."where were all these people when we needed them". With Maggie and her mother on their own, miles away from family and friends, abandoned by their father/husband....it makes you wonder, where were they all when Maggie and Pattie needed them? It's not enough to turn up to a wake when it's all too late. Kelly captures Maggie's disappointment so well here.
- Haden - WOW!!! What an amazing guy! His unconditional love for Maggie is SO strong that he puts it above everything else. No success or fame can undo his love for her and I just adore him.
- Maggie - Well, what can I say! She's an amazing young woman struggling with way more than anyone should have to deal with in a lifetime. Her thought processes are at times frustrating but totally understandable and her selflessness is amazing! Putting what's best for Haden before her heart's desire was so hard to read...GOSH I just wanted to slap her but at the same time so full of admiration for her. "They always say that if you love someone you have to let them go, and if they love you, they'll come back. It's a lot easier to say that than it is to actually do it" - Maggie.
- Kyle almost redeems himself in this book til he drops an ultimatum on Maggie. I just hated him all over again with that even though he did mellow somewhat.
All the supporting characters from Grandma, Uncle Larry (you're gonna love him), Aunt Denise, Scottie and especially Sarah, Maggie's cousin, give such strength to this story. Their support, commitment and love for Maggie is so heartwarming that again you are left wondering why they were apart for so long. But, life seems to have a way of aligning events for a reason and as difficult as they may have been for Maggie to this point the future looks amazingly bright and I'm secretly hoping a third book will come out on the future of Maggie and Haden.
I'm left feeling incredibly emotional after this book. Being a mother of two teenagers I connected with so much of this book and it has inspired me to make the most of every living moment and to express my love for them everyday. Thank you so much Kelly Harper for the opportunity to read and review this book. It was amazing!!! There are only a handful of books that have left me this emotional for days after and this is one of them!
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this story from Kelly and I loved this second book just as much as the first one, great job. Of course there were parts in the book that frustrated me like how Maggie would not hear Haden out, how she was letting Kyle tell her that her love for Haden and his for her was not as important as Haden's dream of being a rock star (then come out and say go do this and we will figure out how to be together, why one or the other?). I have to admit I wasn't real happy that her family, including her mother waited until she had such little time left to tell Maggie about her illness. Now for all of the wonderful things, I enjoyed Maggie's Uncle Larry, he brought humor to the story. It was so great that Haden wasn't going anywhere without her, he was sticking around until they could get their relationship worked out, it was hilarious when Maggie decides to do something for the first time and then goes flying across a table after someone because she is jealous. When Maggie finally realizes that she has made a mistake and goes to Haden it was the best part of the book, from this point forward my heart was full, they are great together, Haden is so sweet, sexy, and loving. I enjoyed reading about their time together, Haden meeting her family, then her mother, and their trip to the waterfall. It was so easy reading the book when it was the parts with them in it together. I didn't understand why they had gone almost a whole month without seeing each other and barely talking to each other after their trip to the waterfall. The sicker her mother became the more tears fell, and when the end came I couldn't stop the tears it was written so well. I loved what Haden, her uncle, and Kyle did for Maggie's mother but was so disappointed in how Maggie treated Haden, I hated that she kept treating him so poorly for no reason and never letting him know what was going on. What she did after he told her he had to return to LA for a quick trip had me bawling, I thought here we go again and of course she was miserable for days after. I was so happy when Maggie finally took the time to talk to Scottie about his relationship with her mother and how she forged a relationship with him at that moment. I thought the surprises at the Battle of the Bands was great, I got confused for a second because when an announcement was made that one of their own was going to be joining them on tour, I thought they meant a person from Green Falls so I thought he was talking about Maggie lol but of course I loved the reunion between Maggie and Haden and what they decided about their relationship. It made me so happy when Haden told her that he came back for her, man he is perfect and of course the ending made me happy, I wish we could have seen them a few years in the future to see what their life ended up looking like but can't have everything. This is a must read.
Wow, Kelly did it again. Was it possible to enjoy this more than the first? Especially with all that was going on in this book? I really, really loved this book. Of course we all had a guess what was wrong with Maggie's mom and turns out we were right. This entire book was sad, you couldn't help but connect with this family and feel so bad for them, especially Maggie. Her mom kept a lot of secrets from her, I could understand why Maggie was angry at times. I would of been also. I'm glad everyone was there for Pattie. She had a wonderful family. Haden and Maggie's relationship was so complicated, there was that unforeseeable doom that he would have to leave or she would have to push him away. Of course Kyle didn't make it any easier, I was so happy when he apologized and I seriously thought everything may be ok, then he opened his mouth so more. He ticked me off I think even more than the last book. You will see why and what parts of the book, don't want to give too much away. The Green Falls scene with Haden and Maggie was probably my most favorite. I love these two, I love how he would do anything and give up everything for Maggie. I wish those two opened up a bit more and fought a bit harder when they did. But it all worked out. I'm so thankful she had him. I was happy Seth apologized, that was very big of him. Scottie, I love that man and I'm so happy he will be the adopted dad and maybe real father Maggie deserves. I would say from 70% on I cried the entire time though. Lol , get your hankies ready for this one. Kelly outdid herself. best yet, it did end beautifully. But those who know me, know I want it all. Babies, marriage, the whole nine yards. But there was no cliffhanger and room for it to end. I cannot wait to read more by Kelly. Also I hope there will be more Huck and Sarah! Even Haden and Maggie on tour!? How awesome would that be!? Must read ladies!
Some quotes I loved:
"Beauty is what you make it."
"I haven't run off, have I?I'm still here. Still with you."
"I want to get back to my life,""And I want my life to be with you."
"Now, seriously, get out there and tell that boy how you feel." "Don't let him get away this time."
"All I know is I want to be with you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Where or how we spend it isn't important."
"There's nothing I want more than to be with you. I'm all yours."
I want to first say... Thank You to the Kelly Harper for putting in the synopsis of Ruined By You that the first book ended with a cliffhanger. I do not like reading a book and then finding out it ends with a cliffhanger and then you have to wait FOREVER for the next book to come out. So THANK YOU... First you tell us the first book ends with cliffhanger and then days later this book comes out. HEAVEN! :)
I wrote a review for the first book and gave it 3 1/2 stars. I want to say that I would give this book the same. I am a "mature woman" and really do not like to read books about "teens". I have a teen.. don't want to read about what they may be doing.
But now with that out of the way. I really did enjoy the story. I felt really bad for poor Maggie. Her life was just a wreck. There is so much angst in her life and it kept me on the edge.
In book one there are so many unanswered questions and in this book all the answers get answered.
I would not agree with many things that Maggie does, but I loved Haden and loved how he "hangs in there" for her. He helps her through a lot and he is what I would call the "hero" in the story.
Not sure about a lot of the different things happening in the story, but I can see where the author probably wrote the way she did that would leave her with openings to do spin offs with other characters. Still some unanswered questions.. so I see it happening. :)
So now I am off to go find me some mature, Alpha Male, romance. Done with the YA stuff for now. Thank goodness. :) Good read, but not something I would reread.
OMG! This book should come with a warning that says 'TO READ ALONE ONLY! TISSUE BOX REQUIRED!!!' I couldn't stop crying for the majority of the book! I don't even want to imagine ever having to go through that with my mom or with anyone in my family. Thats why I give thanks to God for keeping my family, specially my mom, healthy and safe. I wouldn't know what to do without her :,( but enough with the heavy! Maggie's reunion with Haden was so amazing! I mean the reunion that happened in his hotel room of course! It was about time! I was really getting frustrated with Maggie for not understanding Haden. I mean I get where she was coming from but she should have let him explain a little better. I love their little moments. They made me fall more in love with Haden little by little. Which made me hurt and cry even more when I realized what had to be done :/ I could feel every ounce of Maggie's pain, every tear tear that fell from her eyes fell from mine as well. I just couldn't hold the tears at bay whenever she talked with her mom, specially on that last scene with her mom. Those last breaths stole away mine. I HIGHLY recommend this book for those who need a good cry, and for those who don't I also recommend it! This book is wonderful. It's worth every tear! Thank you Miss Kelly Harper for giving me a chance to read this beautiful book by giving me an ARC copy. I really appreciate it!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was really looking forward to reading this book due to the whammy of a cliffhanger book one ended with, but unfortunately this one didn't wow me like Ruined By You did.
I found Maggie to be very immature compared to book one.
This book was enjoyable but it lacked the intensity that book one had. I look forward to read more of Kelly Harper's books.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was very excited to read the conclusion of the story of Maggie and Haden. The first book ended in such a dramatic cliffhanger and I wanted to see where it would all lead. I wanted to like this book more than i did. I think the problem was that it lacked some of the intensity and power of the first book in terms of the characters and their relationships to each other.
I liked the events as they unfolded in this story but I was looking for more depth when it came to the relationship with Maggie and her mom, there was a lot that was left unsaid and unresolved between them that would've added a whole new dimension to the book and helped Maggie grow to an adult before our eyes.
As for Maggie and Haden, the author portrays their relationship in a very sweet and compelling manner, but I wanted more. It felt a little flat after the buildup of the first book.
Nevertheless, I will definitely keep reading more books from this author.
This is why I love this author!!!! I told you this story was going to be emotional. Both of these books are testing Maggie personality to the max. Now, I must admit that I found myself a bit discouraged by her character with the repetitive abrupt rudeness that was continuously warranting apologies, but this seemed to be overcome once the ball really starts rolling. Never having in being a similar situation I guess this might be normal to lash out, but it was becoming frustrating for a moment. It seems like this girl just can’t seem to get a break, and it is very emotion to follow her journey of turmoil. Conflict with Haden was a bit of her own making, but could totally understand her position. The love that is shown throughout this series is amazing. Meeting these character was an incredible experience, and I am so excited that I was given the opportunity to review these two books. I just can not wait to see more from Harper, and love every minute of her stories. I am her newest fan, and will be following her progress closely. ~BookWhisperer Reviewer JO~
I was surprised to find that I picked up right where I left off from the prequel, Ruined by You . I loved this story, great story line easy read. There is so much to say about this book. Talk about captivating and pulling me into a story, "WOW" I was on an emotional roller coaster till the very end, you will laugh, you will cry, you will be pulled into a realm of emotions you may not of known existed unless you have experienced them first hand. There are some twists in this story I did not expect, taken me by surprise made me now wonder where are we going with this then she takes me there. Once again I enjoyed the characters, really believable. It has just the right amount of sweet and sexy…. The right amount of angst and suspense. A wonderful romantic story. Well done Kelly, well done. Definitely a read again. Thank you Kelly for the complimentary book I am truly flattered, my hat off to you Kelly.
I've looked forward to reading this since 'Ruined by You' left me hanging for more. It really didn't let me down. This book was rich in pushing the emotional agenda. I felt deeply saddened by Pattie's illness and subsequent death, but hopeful about Maggie's support system in her extended family.
Kyle's character's growth added another dimension to this story. At first, he still appeared to be a self-centered jerk, but as his motivation was revealed, I liked and understood him better. He wasn't the two-timing loser best friend that he was portrayed to be in the 1st book.
Haden was sweet and loving, and the way he was depicted with Maggie's mom and uncle made him even more attractive. There were parts where he seemed distant, and I questioned his commitment, but his true character shone through in the end.
Bottom line: this was a book that did justice to the characters, story and the beginnings from the 1st book. Read and enjoy!
I was honored to have received an ARC of this book. And what an amazing read it was. This would be one of the book that I have read that I wont forget in a long time.
Saved by You picked up right where it left from Ruined by You. Where Maggie found out Haden's secret and also found out what's going with her mom. There was a lot going on Maggie's life and I liked how strong she was. I loved how Haden didn't give up on Maggie. I loved how the characters grow and face the challenges that were presented to them. This story really captivates me from start to finished. I had a hard time putting it down and the emotion was really strong. I felt like I was with the characters the whole time, experiencing their emotion. I'll be honest I very seldom cry reading a book but this was one of the book that made me cry at times. It was an absolute pleasure reading Maggie and Haden's story. This is a must read book!
I was asked by Kelly Harper if I would read & give a honest review of this book, so here goes.....
I loved Ruined by you (Maggie & Haden #1) and I couldn't wait to read this sequel and let me tell you I was not disappointed! The story starts right where book 1 left off, Maggie finding out that her mother is in the hospital. I will not tell you what happens but I will tell you that this book had me in tears at several parts of the story. Haden and Maggie really love each other and it is obvious to everyone around them, they have a lot of things to work out in order to be together and Maggie isn't sure if she should stay with him or let him go so he can be with his band and go on tour with Maroon 5. Her struggles pulled at my heart strings.
I loved this story and I will be recommending it to my friends and family.
