The Game Plan For Parenting Has Been Written!Although there are many books with good ideas for parents, as a Mom or Dad, how do you take those good ideas and actually implement them? Positive Parenting with a Plan is the fastest growing parenting program in the U.S.A. and Canada.
This book was mentioned by a child therapist. Such good easy and simple ways of gaining order in your house. I had borrowed the first edition copy that he wrote called "Mother Rules" but we ordered his most recent on the Nook to give Jeremy a chance to read it. We are going to give it a try :)
The writing was casual, but I like the concept. Can't give it 5 stars until the program has been up and running for a while. We started our "trial" week this week. We shall see how it goes.
Basically, a set of rules is established and children get rewarded for following the rules, or pull a designated amount of "Good Habit Cards" (which you as a parent have created to suit your family's age and needs) for disobeying. It's nice not to have to come up with a consequence on the spot or try to remember which consequence correlates with which behavior.
Have been wanting a more structured approach to parenting my children, and I think the techniques outlined in this book are definitely worth a try. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence; this plan seems to work. My kids are about to enter the teenage years, and I feel like I need some tools to help navigate some rough waters we've started into, that may not calm down for a few years yet.
This was highly recommended by a therapist. The concepts seem sound, and we're definitely going to give the plan a try. However, it was almost impossible to get through this book; in terms of writing, it's awful. It appears to be self-published; I feel like he could reach a lot more people if he worked with a reputable publisher who could provide some much-needed editing.
