I liked this book, in fact I LOVE this series! To me, if Awakened was like a better version of Beautiful Creatures, then Betrayed was more like a better version of "The Mortal Instruments". (I mean, I find them to be similar somehow, don't hold it against me if you don't think so, LOL)
Reading this book felt like meeting with an old good friend of mine - I remembered some of the things I liked in the first story and I got to know a lot more new interesting things from this one.
It was nice to be in Lil's head again - she is usually a bit sarcastic, a bit stubborn and a lot of fun to hang out with, and there is something about her tone that makes it easy to connect with her. She is honest and always speaks her mind, she is very caring and she never says anything mean to the people surrounding her (not out loud anyways), she always tries to help and doesn't complain much (or at least not on the outside).
Off course she had some difficult situations to get through and the rocky relationship with her boyfriend doesn't make it easier.. Add to this the fact that her evil father is shaking her trust in the people she loves the most and you will get a better picture of the troubles she can get into.
But the good thing is that she is surrounded by great people.
1 . Her grandfather He is one character that I really loved in the first book and he cares for her a lot and tries to protect her in every possible way. He is her only relative (except for her father) and they are really close. I wished that she didn't keep so many secrets from him, and he didn't keep as many from her, but anyways they still trusted each other and they were always trying to help one another.
2. Bran - well, he is great and they were a really cute couple. It was nice to see them at their best, and it was hard to see them starting to fall apart, but the truth is that he really loved her, and no matter what, he was always one kiss away from her. Any time she needed him, he found a way to be there for her. Now I won't even start talking about how secrets can ruin a good relationship because you will see it for yourselves, but they really need to learn not to keep so many secrets. There were some moments when I wanted to shake them both and show them what was plain obvious, but hey, that's part of their charm, right? And when they were not fighting or not trying to stay away from each other they were simply adorable.
3. The friends - we have human friends (I don't remember the number, but I'll tell you this: they are great, even though their part in the story is smaller this time - I loved the most the epilogue), and also we Guardian friends - 4 of them, with different personalities and a voice of their own. They kept arguing in a more-or-less friendly way, and they were so damn funny with their irony and sarcasm, BUT when they had to fight they made a great team, they could trust and count on each other, no matter what. And when they had a problem, they tried to find a solution together, to see both sides of the story, and to find the truth behind all the secrets and mysteries... I wanted to kiss them for being so great.
4. There were other secondary characters and I felt like they were important too. I got to know them, to care for them, and when Lil started to question the loyalty of all those people I couldn't not feel her pain, and struggle, because I wanted so badly for them not to be guilty, I didn't want to lose my trust, my love for them.
Other things that I liked:
a. the action - this book as long as it is, it is full of action. In fact it would make a great movie too. It is fast paced and there's always something interesting happening, and some mystery to solve, and some clues get you to the wrong conclusion, and then you start thinking again who the traitor might be, and you start to get suspicious of everyone, and in between some more fights you find more clues, and... it's simply awesome.
b. Nice evil character - well, this doesn't sound right, but what I mean is that I really liked how manipulative the evil guy was and how his plan came to an end. I hate it when someone in a story is evil just because the good characters need to have someone/something to fight against but still there's no meaning behind his acts. In this case he had his plan, his reasons and he just needed to make it happen no matter what - and so he did.
c. No love triangle - even though I had my doubts in both books, I was so relieved that it was not the case.. thanks God.
d. Sunshine - I should have started with my love for this cute nickname... I love it, and every time Bran called Lil "Sunshine" I got this stupid grin on my face.. it felt like he was talking to me and it made me happy :D
e. Celeste - what a beautiful name and a sweet character. She is Bran's little sister and she was as cute as him. I liked the relationship between her and her brother (this also said a lot about him, because he was always nice to her) and I liked the relationship between her and Lilith - they became friends and it helped them both in some cases.
There are still some more questions to be answered, and I want to know more about Bran's past, but the ending screams "Next!", so I'll be waiting patiently because I want the next one to be as great as these 2 :)
Happy reading!
PS: don't judge it by the cover (it looks like a bad photo manipulation, but it holds a good story inside it)

This book takes all angelic novels a whole league up, and it was more than i expected after reading AWAKENED and more. Seriously people, you have got to read this or you're really missing out on life.
Anyway, this book follows our beautiful, smart, witty, powerful - in short, real perfect - protagonist, Lil as she starts getting used to her life as a Guardian(half-angels). Previously, she hated the idea of not being fully-human, to have such crazy powers was a waking nightmare to her, but now, she doesnt mind it; In fact, she pretty much love hunting now. Which is totally awesome since it means that there was much more action in this book.
However as the book moves along, Bran(her beau) receives an assignment from the Cardinals, and to him, this was THE chance to finally prove his worth to them. He starts to get obsessed with it, and started to keep secrets, to the extent of pushing Lil away, even ignore her at some points and those parts, i tell you, were painful. Not only to Lil, but i felt the pain too:(. lol. But yeah, that's how good Walters's writing is.
Lil was devasted(no surprise there. I mean, who wouldnt be right? If you werent, then i have to hand it to your cold stone of a heart, you heartless ba*****. woops, vulgar much.) Aaaanyway, even with her broken heart and finding out who it was that betrayed her (actually, who it were is more accurate), she sucked it all up and dealt with it like a real warrior. Oh oh, the betrayal part was a real kick in the head. It was sooo unexpected!! Don't try to guess it as you read..I tried and failed terribly. I started doubting everyone but oh well..Let's just say i cant be a detective in the future.
I loved Lil (not in the lesbian sense, God no. Not that i am against it or anything). I loved her kick-ass attitude, her stubborn will and determination, her wit, her powers, her steely guts, her unwavering loyalty, her everything! Oh and last but not least, her boyfriend;). Yes, he is swoon-worthy, but fret not, we will get to that. Lil is everything a she-warrior is supposed to be, but without a hint of manliness. Add to that, she deals with all the shit life throws at her with a level-head. She does cry at times when things get too hard, but hey, a girl needs to indulge once in a while, ay?
Bran was...sigh. Can you picture a girl with glazed eyes, mouth a little askew with drool hanging on her chin? Yeah, that's me now. Ok maybe not the drool part, but you get what i mean. He was so fiercely protective of her, even when he was pulling away! Did that make sense? But he was! How does Walters do that? She is one hell of a writer..a force unto herself! Lol, melodrama-sm doesnt become me.
One thing that bugged me tho, was that Lil suddenly LOVED hunting. Y'know how she was really repelled even at the thought of it in the previous book? But at the start of book 2 she just.. loved it. It was like from, "ew no i dont want to hunt" to "hunting is in my blood and i miss it" kind of thing. But it was no big deal. I dont think i could've remembered this if i didnt note stuff down as i read along.
I loved her relationship with her grampa in this book. There were the quarrels and all, but they are really sweet together. I can really feel the bond between them as they exchanged their witty banters, or when they asked how was the other after a brawl. And even when they're yelling at each other. It wasnt a major part of the book, but it told much about the bonds in a family, and i really liked that. (And i think it's really cool that both granddaughter and grampa are in this hunting thing. Seems kinda like the family line of business. Wicked!)
Y'know how some YA heroines meet with a crossroad in life and have choices to choose from? One choice is obviously dangerous and wrong and the other is the glaringly right one but they choose the wrong one instead so that there was a story to write? This one wasnt like that, not at all. Lil did have many choices at many points in time, but she always chose the choices that i would've chosen too but trouble somehow always manages to find her in the end. It made the story a whole lot more exciting and engrossing.
It was very saddening when i flipped the page and the epilogue's staring at my face. And when the The End came out, i wanted to tear that little square part away. Sigh. It was a damn well-written ending too. Tied up all the loose endings and finished with Lil in Bran's arms. (This is the last six lines of the novel. Totally sweet, totally freaking romantic. Please do not read it if you do not like spoilers!)
Overall, the pace was fast(and furious. Hmm..furously fast?haha sounds weird), the plot was absolutely jam-packed with unexpected twists and turns, action, and such lovable characters, i dont see how anyone can not like this book! This book just brought this series to a whole new level and i am eagerly waiting for its sequel, HUNTED.
.:A must-read for anyone who calls themself a reader:.
I don't think I've ever been so nervous and jumpy and suspicious about every single person that wasn't the main character...For gods sake you had me doubting Bran and his overly noble and hot hot hot intentions towards our beautiful Lil. I suspected everyone! And by the time I let my guard down and decided, actually there's no way it's that person that is betraying Lil...BAM..there goes another reason to mistrust them... I think I've developed trust issues from this book.
But hot damn, was it a good one, I'm normally very sceptical about the second, third, fourth etc book in series/saga's...How often are they actually as awesome as the first? Well this one was better than the first, it was more in-depth, more descriptive and just plan juicier.
In this one we pick up pretty much where we left off from the prequel Awakened. Coronis has been vanquished along with most of her demony followers, Valafar is trying to play the good daddy, Lil now lives in her mansion on the same estate as the other Cardinal Guardians in training, Gavyn is in a coma, which is probably lucky for most of this book, there was so much drama and tension, the last thing we needed was Bran's big bro trying to run the show. Celeste I loved, she's cute and unique with a kick, I liked seeing Bran's relationship with her, though as the book continued and Bran developed certain..'issues' he became darker and withdrawn, I hated that, he and Lil are so perfect and lovely and yet equally as stubborn, though I did understand why he kept his secrets.
There are a few characters I actually quite liked in this, though for spoiler reasons I won't say why ;) Dante, Solange, Angelia and Jethro (I really liked Jethro and wished we could have seen more of him) and much to my surprise and now disappointment, I briefly liked Valafar.
Niggles are as follows: Lil confided in practically no one and yet had a tantrum that caused snow storms when other people kept their own secrets. Hypocrisy is not becoming. Lil just let way to much stuff escape her attention, or she just plain ignored it. Bran mentioned 'no matter what happens to me' and other hints that he was at risk/in danger, but one kiss and Lil is wrapped up in hormones not paying attention to her man and his tiny cries for help. Someone is using your friend like a human ariel and possibly causing irreversible brain damage but rather than have a sift through their heads and potentially save a life, she refuses to 'invade their privacy' Jesus...
All in all though, this was a nice read, it only took me a few hours, purely because once my eyes got glued to this story, it wasn't stopped until I'd consumed it!
I just discovered there is another book after this one, but the story felt so nicely and neatly wrapped up that unless the next book is from the 'other side's' opinion, sayyyy Solange or Gavyn, I think I'll leave the Guardian Legacy ending here for me :)
Have you ever dreaded reading a sequel because you liked the first book so much that you didn't want to be disappointed? Well, let me assure you that this is not a problem with this series!!!
I was so incredibly excited when my copy of Betrayed arrived in the mail. I started it immediately and I was not disappointed one bit.
Betrayed is a fantastic sequel. I tore through the 366 page book in less than twenty four hours, staying up until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. It felt amazing being back in the world Ednah created in the first book.
All of our beloved characters are back. Lil, the badass chosen one, Bran her evil-turned-good-winged boyfriend, Remy, Skyes, Kim, Izzy, all of the other guardians, including Lil's grandpa. And let's not forget Valafar!!! All of these characters are developed in this book, especially Lil and Bran. Lil becomes stronger phisically as well as mentally. She's one tough 16 year old! Bran is as dreamy and protective as ever. (#TeamBran!) It was agonizing when he started pulling away from Lil. I could feel her pain.
The book is action packed! Ednah writes some fantastic fight scenes! Heck, she writes fantastic scenes of any kind. The romantic parts are swoon worthy! I love the way the guardian trainees act around eachother. The character's dialog is great!
Here are some of my favorite lines:
"One caught your fancy?" "So many to love," he whispered, his gaze following another girl, "and so little time." "Man-whore," Kim said. "A proud card carrying member," he said absentmindedly, his eyes on another girl. "And I don't apologize for it."
"The way his heated eyes caressed my face left no doubt in anyone'smind he loved me."
And let's not forget the fact that someone has Betrayed Lil. I tried my hardest to figure out who it was before I found out. I was unsuccessful. Ednah keeps you on your toes, makes you suspect everyone, until she unveils the culprit. I didn't even think about this person. Ednah is good!!!
Last but not least, cover love!!! :) It's such a beautiful book to add to my shelf! I am eagerly awaiting book three Hunted!!!
If you enjoyed Awakened, the first book in The Guardian Legacy series, then you will love Betrayed even more! Get your copy today!
I read Awakened back in 2010 so this book was a long time coming, but so incredibly worth the wait.
Betrayed was everything I was hoping it would be. I just adore the way Ednah Walters combines mythology, the four elements (and then some) with angel/demon lore without overwhelming the readers. Sometimes to many elements can make it to much, but it's not the case for this book, it's the perfect touch to entice the story line.
My favorite part would have to be the outrageous amount of excitement and suspense in each chapter. I was always on my toes waiting to see what would happen next. I loved that I couldn't guess who the 'betrayer' was and shocked when it's finally revealed. I loved Ednah's dedication to details. It's a big world with so many things happening, but I never felt lost, in fact I was in constant intrigue-mode throughout the entire story.
I have to say that I absolutely love Bran and Lil! Bran broke my heart a little in this one, but when it matters most he's always there for Lil. They have one of those spine-tingling romances that takes your breath away. It's not overly sappy but sweet and romantic.
Bottom line, I really enjoyed this one. It's fun and funny and a fantastic addition to my angel shelf. The ending is pretty perfect so I'm not sure if we're getting another book. Walters could end it here and it would be okay but she also left some room for another book which would be just as great. I guess only time will tell. Till then, I have these two amazing books to re-read and cherish.
Beautifully written Urban Fantasy that revolves around the Nephilim. Now I have not read the first in the series, though I plan to soon. I was able to follow along just fine without any real pressing questions.
I really found myself liking Lil. She is strong, caring, and full of compassion. There is no quick judgement, even when her father tries to plant deceit in her mind or Bran does *something*. It doesn't mean she doesn't feel anger or hurt, but she understands especially when it comes to Bran.
Onto Bran, I felt a connection with him, and talk about a book crush. But pressing beyond the mental image I saw a man who was often torn between his love for Lil and well his love for Lil (no spoiler, sorry).
At the heart of these two characters is a wonderful plot that engages the visual mind. Lots of fighting, and swooning moments. I look forward to reading both the first, and third book.
Lil is adjusting to life as a guardian when her life becomes more complicated. In the beginning her relationship with Bran is very lovey dovey, huggy, kissey and then there become problems and she has a hard time dealing with the emotional separation and fighting.
She is dealing with the issue and confusion of having a demon for a father. He is trying to persuade her come with him, but she is firmly committed to the guardians.
This story is packed with action in the last 1/3 of the book. The beginning is a build up to the end.
Lil has come to terms with her life as a Guardian – demon hunter and the wielder of Nephilims’s most powerful weapon. Everyone fears her. !! She has power everyone wants and powes she never knew she possessed, she is the elite of the guardians.
Trouble looms amongst the guardians, someone has betrayed Lil and they need to find out whom. Bran is pulling away from Lil, her best friend is treating her like a freak, and her Demon father has a medium amongst her friends to watch her. Lil is feeling overwhelmed and she discovers powers she never new she possessed and needs to find out who betrayed her and why? She finds out a secret that everyone kept from her, and is not impressed !!! Life is not at all what it seems and can secrets alone tear Bran, the guardians and Lil apart?
Bran and Lil’s love is challenged, we see a different side of Lil and Bran in book 2 and Lil’s demon father’s presence is more evident in this book. Does he have ulterior motives for contacting Lil? Will he destroy the ones she loves?
Lil trains in between classes with the guardians and her teacher to enhance her new found powers and learn to use what she has been gifted with, this will help her be the warrior she is destined to be. She just needs to focus !
Anguish, lies, and betrayal are present.... Will Lil and Bran’s love be able to cope with the challenges and the secret that may well tear them apart or bring them closer ?
My Thoughts .......
Betrayed is jam packed with action, romance, suspense, secrets and heart ache. We are certainly in our paranormal element in this story, fast paced and an epic novel I’m sure will only rise in book 3.
We are taken on a roller coaster ride in Betrayed, mixed emotions, and at every page turn ,something new develops. You turn one corner to discover a curve ball in the next. Ednah had certainly piqued the readers interest in book 2, creating that paranormal element in this book by introducing new characters that I’m sure will rattle your chains. I was intrigued from page one, and found myself at times, with a goofy smile whilst I read, humor was enlightening at times, and if possible some characters even sexier> ** wink **
Sykes geesh ! I enjoy his childish teasing ways with Lil, his persistence is defiantly worth bottling, his grins I can see ** chuckles ** and he certainly doesn’t mind giving Bran a run for his money.
The guardians stay true and loyal to each other no matter what curve ball is thrown their way; I found them very admirable and constant throughout the story - this I enjoyed. No matter what their differences may have been when one of them needed each other they were there.
Remy is still the head honcho if you may call him that, the responsible one, who is honest and very reliable. I enjoy all the boys characters and I am sure you will find Bran to be quiet moody at times in this book ,at times wanting to kick his arse, but once you have read into the book, you will understand his motives. The girls are still feisty and kick arse, but once again their loyalty shines through. New characters a re introduced that I’m sure you will enjoy, men in black *dark but deviously sexy* and also someone who loves to challenge Kim and to boot has her own attitude. This is quiet funny at times. I think that you will find the characters have grown, especially Lil - even the Reaper I’m sure you will have yourself slightly wandering what it is you like about him, I know I did.
Ednah certainly brings out the emotions whilst reading, I found myself giggling, goofy grin in awe, and even my eyes where fluttering at times. I enjoy a story that can bring out the emotions – even if it is to kick the characters moody arses .. lol.. I even found myself wanting to snuggle on the lounge and share meatballs with the hotty J and woof down pastries with the other sexy guardian - which ones you will have to see.
Overall a memorable second installment of The Guardian Legacy series. A plot you will find has your attention piqued throughout, a fluent flowing dialogue , chapters that go with the flow, a storyline that will keep you engrossed and an ending that will leave you craving more. Characters that you will grow to love and hate and also characters that will have you very curious even if they are from the dark side... ** wink wink **... Actions scenes are well described, full on and sucker punch time is on !! A read filled with all the goodies one would want - full of substance of the good kind !!
Maybe I’ll enhance my PSI powers and use my powers of Mind Control and read Ednahs thoughts to find out what’s next. She has left me in sheer bewilderment, by leaving teasers now that just makes me way to curious lol.
Eagerly await book 3 … The Hunt !!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book was brilliant. I have read several books about angels that have been good, but typically, I have not really been drawn to this type of story. After reading the blurb about Betrayed, I was intrigued and interested in the book, and I absolutely loved it. Lil is 16 years old, part Nephilim, part human, part demon..yes...and she is the Chosen, a Guardian in training, and one kick-butt heroine. She and her friends and fellow Guardians go to high school by day, blending in with the humans, while their nights are spent either at the academy training and/or teaching, or out demon hunting. It seems that everybody wants a piece of Lil, and her Grandpa, who she lives with and who is one of the leaders, has forbidden her from leaving the valley for her own protection. Her hot, Hot, HOT boyfriend Bran, begins acting strange and keeping secrets from her to. On top of that her father, who is a demon, contacts her and begins to plant seeds of doubt in her head regarding who she can trust, while her best friend Kylie, who is human, also begins acting strange. With the help of her friends, Remy (swoon), Izzy, Kim, Celeste, and the oh so yummy, melt in your mouth Sykes, she is determined to find out what is going on and determined to do whatever it takes to save the ones she loves. The question is, how far is she willing to go towards the dark side to accomplish this, and will she and those she loves survive?
Betrayed is one of those books that captures your attention from the first page and and keeps it until the last. There are quite a few characters in the book and I loved and felt connected to them all. The were all written well, and in fact, I even loved to hate the bad ones. Ednah Walters has taken the world of mythology and added her own twist to it, which is both exciting and imaginative, and created a world where these mythological characters are also teenagers that you can relate to and enjoy. I loved Sykes, not only is he super hot, he is really funny. I also really liked Celeste, Bran's sister, who was quite unique, and I thought her character added a lot to the story. The romance between Lil and Bran is really hot, and despite their issues, they truly love one another. Then, there is the action. With all the different classes of demons and angels, you are continually awed by the supernatural beings you encounter in the story. There are some intense battle scenes and Bran, Lil, and the others can really kick butt. This novel was fast-paced, creative, and incorporated just the right amount of humor and romance that makes Betrayed one of those books that keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next, with unique twists that keep you guessing. I found myself up to the wee hours of the morning without realizing it. If you love books about angels and demons, or are a fan of mythology, you will definitely love this book. If you love fantasy and romance, then I think this book would be something you would enjoy, and if you haven't read many books of this nature, then Betrayed is definitely one I would recommend. Betrayed is a great book by a great author and I look forward to reading more in this series.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I laughed during the reading of this spectacular novel. It was one of those extraordinary reads that is full of so much humor you find yourself laughing on almost every page. The language and dialogue was very fluid and addicting, I felt Ednah really touched the basis of teenage angst and everything dramatic that goes on in a sixteen year-old’s head. It was one of the many books I’ve ever read in first person that I could actually feel tuned in with the character’s feelings and thoughts. If you haven’t read Awakened, Book 1 of The Guardian Legacy series, well then listen up because you’re in for a wild, adventurous ride.
Betrayed was definitely an action-packed, dynamic thriller. There’s no other way around it. It’s everything you look for in a heart-wrenching love story and a butt-kicking enthrallment. There wasn’t a second I wasn’t reading, delving further into the life of Lil Falcon. I brought my Kindle everywhere I went because I felt the story would just get up and run away without me, leaving me at a great loss. The plot was unpredictable and the characters were well-developed. It had me more then at the edge of my seat, I was literally on the floor. It was one of those stupefying novels that you can read once and remember every aspect of it years after from a date to the name of a street. Walter’s writing technique was beautiful, the chapters weren’t so short and weren’t too long. The cliffhangers didn’t leave you completely dangling by a branch, but you were definitely out there. Like I mentioned before, the humor in this book really had me rolling. I enjoy books that have a sense of wit because that tells me something about the author, a very good something. Everything about Betrayed made this one heck of a remarkable read.
I must say though, my ultimate favorite about this novel was Bran Llyr. The Bran Llyr. Mysterious, captivating, compelling, alluring, fascinating, and any other mouth-drooling words you can think of – that was Bran Llyr. He was everything wrapped into one secret box, the definition of triple threat. And his chemistry with Lil is so pure and hypnotizing. Awakened was a shorter read then Betrayed, but you wouldn’t have guessed they developed a relationship so strong in such a short amount of time. And that’s important as anything else. The chemistry between the two “lovers” has to be so in synced that the reader thinks they’ve met in some other time continual vortex. It just has to be there. And Ednah Walter did an incredible job at making sure it was, actually it seemed as if she wrote the whole thing with magic. Because magic was exactly what I was experiencing while reading the first paragraph of the first chapter to the last paragraph of the last chapter. This is a Top-of-the-TBR-list, phenomenal must read!
Betrayed is the second book in The Guardian Legacy series by Ednah Walters and was kindly provided to me by Spencer Hill Press.
I thoroughly enjoyed Awakened, the first book in the series so I was really eager to dive into Betrayed and I am thankful it was everything I had been hoping for.
Lil is trying to juggle her Human/Guardian life as well as she possibly can but is also adapting to her duty as the Chosen One; she has been through a lot but has really grown as a character; she is still kick-butt and amazing but is also caring, strong-willed and innocent which I really liked and in this installment we see her having to deal with many obstacles, including her relationship with Bran Llyr.
Bran begins to push Lil away when he receives an assignment, it was his chance to prove his capabilities and worth but it was at the expense of his relationship with Lil and his friends. I was left heartbroken by his words and behavior, he certainly needed a kick up the you know what at certain times.
Betrayed was such an emotional read on so many levels; Lil and Bran are one of my favourite book couples but there were many secrets, miscommunications and betrayals that I honestly started to doubt the strength of their relationship but in saying this, there were also some pretty sweet moments which would make up for it. It was also difficult seeing Lil deal with her conflicted feelings about her father.
I love to focus on the relationship, but it certainly isn't at the forefront of the story; I think the wonderful tale Ms. Walters has weaved surrounding the nephilim is thoroughly entertaining and written in a way which brings a uniqueness to the who angel/demon lore.
Each of the secondary characters are easy to connect with and play an important role in this book, I especially love the close bond Lil shares with her grandfather but wished they could have been more open and upfront with one another. Sykes is a classic and I quite liked Celeste, a newcomer to the story. The villain was written to perfection, I loved to despise him – he played the part perfectly.
I enjoyed the non-stop heart pounding action which kept the story flowing well, there was a lot happening but never a time where I felt confused or lost and we are given many twists and turns to keep things interesting. Ms Walters writing is really captivating and really keeps you turning the pages.
Betrayed is the perfect sequel to Awakened, it is packed with action, humor, angst, drama and betrayal. I am keen to read the next book in this amazing series, Hunted which has an anticipated April 2013 release.
Thank-you kindly to Spencer Hill Press for providing me with a copy of Betrayed.
I was very excited to receive Betrayed from Spencer Hill Press for review. I loved reading Awakened the prequel to Betrayed last year, (A Prequel is a story containing events that precede those of an existing work) it was a great paranormal read with great characters so I was expecting the same from Betrayed and I wasn't disappointed!
Betrayed kicks of a few months after the events in Awakened. Lil the main protagonist is trying to balance her two lives, the one with her human friends and her duties and training with her Guardian friends. When Lil is thinking everything is starting to balance out her evil father walks (well rings) back into her life and everything starts to go wrong. There is a trader in the Guardian academy, Lil's human friends are being manipulated and one is being used as a physic "conductor" and to top it of her hot boyfriend ( I heart Bran) is acting strange! What is a girl to do in these situations, well if your Lil Falcon, deal with the situation as best she can and fight back!
Betrayed was a fast paced adventure which I loved. Lil was as feisty and amazing as ever. She is a protagonist that everyone will like. She may act like a typical teenager like not wanting to do her training etc and hang out with her boyfriend and friends but when things are bad she doesn't hid away from them, she fights though it showing strength and determination.
I loved her relationship with Bran. Even though they have to overcome issues in Betrayed they get though it though love and hope and I hope they continue to do this in the next book as there troubles are far from over.
The other characters in Betrayed are as great as ever. My favourite Guardian guy apart from Bran is of course Sykes. He is such a great character, he is so funny, charming and he really does care about the team even though he sometimes acts like he doesn't. We are also introduced to some new characters in the book. The evil Solange who I disliked, however I did feel a tinie tiny bit sorry for her at one point, but only one point :) and cute Angelina one of the awesome gifted demon children which I can't wait to hear more about in Hunted. She was so cute but also very feisty, honest and a little scary :)
Overall I really enjoyed Betrayed. I loved the characters and the story was fast paced and exciting with a lovely and heartfelt romance thrown in. I can't wait for the next book in the series, Hunted!
Book Blurb: Lil isn't just an average teenager. She's one of the Nephilim--the descendants of humans and angels--which gives her some serious psi skills and a mission for redemption. Just when Lil thinks she's found a balance between her normal life with human friends and her training to become a Guardian, she's warned that someone close to her will betray her. When the boy she loves starts acting strangely and one of her human friends acquires a supernatural ability, Lil begins to realize that someone is manipulating the people she loves... and won't stop until she's been lured to the dark side.
My review: This series is INTENSE. Seriously love this series. I love Lil Falcon (even though my head says Lil'Falcon (like little falcon) each time I see that. DO NOT TELL HER THAT THOUGH! This is one bad hiney chic not even I would want to have as an enemy! She is incredible. I love her power and no nonsense attitude. She challenges everything and never lets anyone coddle her or treat her as someone breakable.
Lil likes to fight & deserves to fight. She trains hard and is definitely skilled. She finds out in Betrayed that her powers are growing. There are people in her life she is not sure if she can trust or not. She gets almost paranoid as life get so complicated for her. She is strong and can keep her head on straight....
She is close to her human friends and her Guardian friends both. She needs these relationships to balance out her Guardian life. She finds out that SOMEONE close to her is a SPY. She is crushed as she does not know how she can blame a friend and is driving herself crazy with a serious case of the "what if's"...
Bran...oh Bran...Bran is a demon gone Guardian. IKR...crazy stuff? But he is what dreams are made of. PLEASE DO NOT TELL LIL! She scares me...did I mention that? She is a powerful little thing. Could have something to do with her genetics....guess YOU better read the book ASAP!
Ednah Walters is a MASTER story teller. The world she has created with The Guardians is incredible. Once I start one of her books, I cant put it down. I have to finish it. I become so obsessed with what will happen next!!! This is definitely one author you do not want to miss out on!!
I was so excited to find out that Betrayed has been re-released through the ever incredible publisher Spencer Hill Press. If you are not familiar with Spencer Hill Press, you are missing out on MANY incredible authors!
I received this book as part of Goodreads First Reads giveaway. The author was nice enough to personally autograph the book inside, as well as include a few autographed bookmarks and magnets.
I started this book in the middle of the night, and ended up reading it straight through to the end and finishing in the morning. The story is a very good one, set towards a young adult audience, but I enjoyed it just as much as an adult. Angels and demons are involved in the book, though they seem to be from another planet or realm, and there isn't a hint of religion really except for the the good vs. evil undertone, but I never once felt that I was being pushed towards a "Believe in God" attitude for the book, which I was very grateful for.
The book is a continuation of a previous story, from which I gathered the main character, Lil or Lilith, depending how well you know her, discovered her powers and family background to help fight off some bad guys. Now that she's trying to learn more about her powers and train to help fight demons on Earth, she ends up having to juggle trying to live a normal life as a teenager in high school while saving the world and people's souls every day.
Without giving away the rest of the plot and spoiling it, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The book offers strong female and male characters trying to just do the right thing, while dealing with other aspects of "real life." The writing keeps you engaged, and the plot is cohesive. There are a few mysteries that happen in the book, which kept me guessing through the end, and all of the characters are fleshed out well so that you can like them for who they are, while still seeing their faults, through the eyes of Lil. Young adult fiction has come a long way since I was a teenager, and this book is on par, if not better than the more mainstream offerings out there.
This is one of those books where I wanted to say to to the author at the end, "Thank you for sharing your story with me." I don't rate many books on Goodreads as 5 stars, but I can't see anyone who likes the fantasy/paranormal genre not enjoying this book once they pick it up and give it an honest read. The book makes me want to read the prequel, as well as keep following the story in subsequent offerings.
An awesome book… can’ wait for the next bookkkk :D
My thought
Characters *. Bran - still an awesome guy :), who likes grin .. hey, I like a guy who likes grin lol, handsome, protective in the sense, possesif at the right time and not excessive even though lil 'd say it is not necessary because I'm yours. But this book, I want to kick his ass for keeping a secret, arghhh *. Lil, I hope she can more stronger and explicit especially about bran. -. Skyes is cute and took every opportunity of making Bran jealous (yup.. and sometimes you succeed skyes * grin) *. Kim, as usual, annoying but I know she will definitely help and on lil’s side that sometimes makes lil amazement *. Izzy is trying to be fair or follow the flow but still we can see she is on kim’s side. And in this book I really suspect she is a bad person, lol. *. Remy is cool, not a lot of expression and junior group leader in the Guardian. *. Lil’s Granpa is strict and stingy but cherish and protect lil, and you will be impressed with him *. All Dansai is cool.
Story: Ednah very clever in stirring my emotions, which certainly, this is a story that you will not miss it. The story of the angel, demon, Nephilim, werenephilim or immortal creature that described in book, awalys makes me amazed and wonder by the imagination of the author, how can they create a story which I will always ask, is this creature exist in this world or perhaps in another world? Interaction between Lil and Bran has always fascinated me, how they go together like yin-yang, using psi energy to complement each other and help alleviate the emotions if one feels angry, sad, and others. Even this is not happen in this book this time, Bran decided not to link their psi – energy because that can causing “poison”. How can? I also like the interaction between every Guardian. The way they talk through the thoughts, telepathy, etc..
Overall: The story is very interesting and highly recommend this book to be read and prepare yourself and get ready to blushing, grinning, smiling, laughing, guessing and wondering and hesitating between who is good and who is bad. To be sure I will always look forward to read another Ednah’s book.
I received this book in return for a honest review from the author. This book starts off seven months after the first book ended. Lil is still in training as a cardinal, while Remy, Kim and Sykes are off hunting she's stuck in training with a new psi instructor Master Hazil who came for Xenith to train her, as he had trained her grandfather and many other powerful psi guardians.
The team is sent out to find Bran who went missing while trying to find his brother who is trying to find the list. While searching the building where Bran is Lil stumbles across a little demon girl named Angelia who tells her that she's searching for the list so she and the other special children can return home to Coronis Isle to be with their parents. They don't know that Lil and the other guardians destroyed the island.
Lil's father has decided to reach out to her as well, and when she avoids his calls he uses one of her friends as a medium to communicate with her. They also learn that in addition to the medium he also has a guardian spying for him and acting as the mediums guide. Lil has to find the guardian, save her friend, find a place for the special children, and save her boyfriend.
This book is almost better then the first, but I love them both, each is a unique story about Lil and her fellow guardians. This book doesn't disappoint it instead exceeds my expectations as a sequel. Like the first one this book draws you in right from the start. This book does an awesome job of balancing the action with the emotional aspects of the book. There are some unanswered questions from the first that did get answered. This book also has a lot of twists I didn't see coming that kept me on my toes. I started it yesterday and stayed up late reading till I passed out, only to finish it first thing this morning. It's a exciting series with great characters you grow fond of. I love the first two books in this series. I hope to see another book in the series, I want to know whats going to happen to Lil next.
Review Of Betrayed (The Guardian Legacy Series Book #2) By Ednah Walters
I was floored by how amazing this book was. I finished it yesterday and so wished there was more. I am basically going crazy waiting for book 3 now. I didn't think it was possible but I LOVE Bran and Lil even more. The title Betrayed really fits this book to a tee. In this book Lil's left to wonder just who she can trust and just who might be out to destroy her and her Guardian friends. Also Lil and Bran's relationship is put to the test when Bran starts keeping things from Lil and pulling away from her just when she needs him the most. Betrayed also lets us get to know Bran's sister Celeste. We get to see how she is adjusting to life away from Coronis' Island. Remy, Sykes, Izzy, And Kim also play a big part in this book and there witty banter is just as engaging as in Awakened (The Guardian Legacy Series Book #1). Lil also gets a dose of her daddy dearest Valafar. Not only does Lil's demonic father try to put doubts in her head about those she knows and trust but he uses her late mother as a guise for his truer purpose. This book kept me glued from beginning to end. Is it wrong to find Angels/Nephilim's HOT? Bran is even HOTTER (in my opinion) in this sequel. So if you are looking for an action packed, Angels verse Demons, soul mates, and a Mortal Combat then Betrayed is the book for you. On a scale from 1-10 I give this book a resounding 10. I have the same feeling about this book as I did with the first one. It is still a series that I can read over and over again. The characters were just so vibrant and incredibly real for me. Ednah, I am now salivating for the next book in this AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC series. Everyone one, in my opinion, NEEDS to pick up a copy of Betrayed. If you haven't read Awakened yet then you should pick up a copy of that book as well.
Betrayed was so much better than I expected- seriously. After not completely enjoying Awaken, I figured this book would have the same affect but boy, was I wrong. Lil has excepted her powers and for the most part, her role as The Chosen One. Bran and his sister, Celeste become like family and are accepted by the Grampa and the other Guardians. Lil is able to balance her Guardian-life with her human-life. Everything is great until Bran starts acting weird, the Guardians' new mission is to find The List, Valafar calls, and certain things go awry among Lil's human friends. Will Lil be able to defeat the demons while also protecting the ones she loves? Holy action, Batman. There was nonstop demon butt-kicking the entire novel. I was on the edge of my seat practically the entire time I read. It had me wondering what would happen to Bran? What's wrong with him? Who had betrayed the Guardians? I wasn't expecting **** While I already love the returning characters(the trainees, cardinals and friends), I loved the new characters. Sykes is still a favorite but he definitely had some competition this time around. Celeste is determined and spunky but loves her brothers wholeheartedly. She's excited to join the Guardians just like Bran. Solange, who's affiliated with Lil's gang in more ways than one, is a badass demon looking for approval. Another new character, Angelia is the sweetest of them all. She's a Special demon; being a child, she just wants live without worries. I really enjoyed Betrayed and believe it deserves a 4.5 star rating.
www.booksforcompany.com Betrayed is the second in the series and after enjoying Awakened l was excited to see where Ednah would take this series. I am really glad that l read Betrayed, not only did l enjoy it more than Awakened (l did still really enjoy Awakened) but l felt it wasn’t one of those books which feels like it’s a bit ..pointless. Lately l feel a lot of authors just bring out a second in the series because everyone else is but Ednah made Betrayed a gripping read which did a great job of extending on Awakened but also making them both their own books.
I do have to admit, as much as I like Lil and how very real she feels she did sadly annoy me at some points in this book. Only for a small and simple reason but l found her moods and feelings to be very confused. Although she was going through a hard time l often felt for Bran because of how she was often hot and cold for no reason and l was unsure if this was done on purpose. At some points she would be all over him and then at other times be avoiding him for, what l thought, was no reason and if there was a reason it was a selfish reason. Aside from that one negative thing this whole book, like l said above, Ednah did a great job of building on the characters from Awakened. I liked being able to get to know Bran and the rest of the gang more, this really added to Betrayed and helped me to create a ‘bond’ with them. The bond which I created with the characters made me enjoy the book more as well as understand their actions better than before.
Overall Betrayed is a great book which is definitely worth a read! The storyline was a fast paced one which kept me guessing throughout the book and engrossed. What l love about this book is about how a lot of it is about friends coming together and caring for each other. I found it very refreshing.
This is the sequel to Awakened. I knew that I was going to love this but was wondering if it could live up to the first one. Well let me tell you it surpassed Awakened.
All the characters are back for another round in the guardian world. Things are going good,Lil and Bran's relationship is growing, she is training and hunting as a guardian, Bran's sister is living with him now. Then the trouble starts. Lil' father Valfar starts calling her and telling her she's in danger and that Bran is not telling her everything. At first she ignores him so he uses one of her friends as a medium, the whole phone thing I thought was cool. Then Bran starts acting different towards Lil and things go downhill from there. There's someone spying on Lil and sending information about Lil back to her father. Then there's Solange and the little kid's, I liked meeting these new characters. I felt Lil's struggles with Bran and her father. It was like a mystery trying to figure out who the spy and who the medium were. The romance, suspense, action and mystery were all fantastic. I couldn't put my kindle down, I wanted more. LOVED the ending with the party. Makes me smile just thinking about it. :)
I want to gush about everything that happened and all the moments between my favorite characters, Lil, Bran and yeah Skyes. I am not going to say anymore except that I LOVED this and can't wait to read more. This is one of my favorite series and it's a must read!
This book was given to me by the author for review. This did not affect my review in any way.
After reading Awakened I was eager to dive into Betrayed and it didn't disapppoint. In fact I think this book is even better than the first book. What I loved the most was the fact I was kept guessing of who done it's or who is behind this or that. I normally can figure or nearly figure out who it is but this one I for the life of me figure who the traitor was or why her friends were now acting so strangely and very rude.
Bran, especially through me for a loop I couldn't understand why he was being so mean at times and though I knew it had to be more than what Lil was thinking it still left me puzzled. As for Lil I felt her confusion about her father as well as with why everyone was being so different to her.
I neglected to mention in my review of Awakened, just how much I enjoyed the side characters as well, Sykes being my favorite ( I am hoping he gets his own book or something). Kim, I am still unsure about, though I have to remind myself they are teenagers. But what I find I do like is that no matter what differences they may have with each other, they are always there for each other as a team.
Overall this book is an excellent continuation in this series and I am anxious for the third book, Hunted to be released. While there is no cliffhanger, I am still wondering about a few things and I hope they are answered in the new book.
If you haven't read Awakened, you should but you can read this as a stand alone and not be confused but I highly suggest you read them both.
I have never read a YA angle/demon story that I did not love! No matter how many I read, there is always something a little different that makes the story special. And boy does this one little fact about Lil make it different and special and one I will not easily forget. I like that she is coming into and accepting who and what she it. I love a strong female leading character and although in the beginning she was not quite there, she was still her own person with her different style and dam those that had a problem with her roots. I’m still in love with Bran and love the way he treats her. Loved him from the very beginning and knew he was unique. The story is fast past always something going on never a dull moment a few steamy scenes but nothing to hot and heavy, got to keep it YA. I also like the way that the story continued straight away from where it left of in Awaken without too much of trying to catch up a reader, therefore book one is a must, which should always be that way and I guarantee if you love angels, then you won’t be disappointed in this series. I recommend Betrayed to all ages and those in love with angles stories. I would like to thank Ms. Walters for providing the ebook so that I may provide an honest review. Thanks you so much for allowing me to read wonderful story. On with the next one, I can’t wait.
Ednah Walters has captivated me once again with her amazing characters and wonderful storytelling. With even more action, heartache, trouble, mayhem, betrayal, and angst than Awakened, Betrayed has definitely exceeded my expectations!
What to LOVE about Betrayed: The characters - they are simply amazing, they each have such distinctive personalities that even if you weren't told who was saying something you would still know who said it. Like you were sitting in the room with them instead of reading a story about them. The action - there are some great butt kicking scenes in this book. I also love that they are written in a way that I can keep up with what is going on and not have to read it over again to figure out where I missed something The romance - is beautiful without being saccharine sweet. Plus NO love triangle, at least not yet.
What not to LOVE about Awakened: I truly can't think of anything that I didn't love about this book. One of my favorite YA paranormal series so far.
I have been looking forward to reading Betrayed since the minute I finished Awakened. Ednah has done such an amazing job of writing a fresh, unique YA paranormal romance. All of my favorite characters were back, and Lil and Bran once again stole my heart. If you haven't yet picked these books up, you are seriously missing out.
R2R Goodreads Summary: "Lil isn't just an average teenager. She's one of the Nephilim--the descendants of humans and angels--which gives her some serious psi skills and a mission for redemption. Just when Lil thinks she's found a balance between her normal life with human friends and her training to become a Guardian, she's warned that someone close to her will betray her. When the boy she loves starts acting strangely and one of her human friends acquires a supernatural ability, Lil begins to realize that someone is manipulating the people she loves... and won't stop until she's been lured to the dark side."
So, as I mentioned in my review of Awakened, the moment I finished reading an excerpt from this book I immediately put the series on my "to-read" list. I am now officially obsessed. I loved everything about this book. I felt like I was on a sugar-high the whole time I was reading. It was plain awesomeness in book form [then again, books are awesomeness by themselves, so I guess that this means that this book was awesomeness(x2)] Normally second books aren't that great - Hi, New Moon (don't get me wrong, I love the Twilight series, but New Moon was just... not that great) - but Betrayed just blew me away. I can't believe I hadn't heard of this author before, but now I am a legit fan.
I was so excited to have the chance to read and review an ARC of Betrayed, after book one I was dying to read more about this incredible world Ednah Walters has created.
Wow what a ride...*whines* does it have to end?!?! Just until book 3 *winks* This book is just amazing, had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. I'd reread book one Awakened to refresh my memory of the storyline, so glad I did made me enjoy this one even more.
Ednah has done an amazing job, she truly knows how to capture her readers and take them on a whirl wind adventure full of suspence, action, romance, and of course...loads of danger! So many surprises around each corner you'll be hooked till the very end, and even then your left wanting more. We are introduced to some new and exciting characters. Also the old characters Bran, Lil, Sykes, Izzy, Remy and Kim are back to kick some arse. And boy do they ever!!
The Guardian Legacy books are one's that I could read over and over again. A journey that'll never get old and characters that'll still have you intrigued years later. So if you love a fast paced action packed book full of gorgeous Nephilim with awesome powers, then these books are a must read!
I've read some really great books this year, but Betrayed is my new favorite. It has everything--a powerful female MC, a hot romance that has to surpass some serious odds, mystery, and great action scenes. I swooned over the steamy scenes between Lil and Bran. Those two are so hot, and I found myself marking passages left and right, each more steamy than the last.
And the story line is phenomenal. There are twists and turns to keep you guessing and great fight scenes that make the pages turn so quickly. Yet despite the quick pace of the story, I took my time with this one, rereading passages simply because they were that good. Lil's relationship with her father, who happens to be quite evil, preys on the reader's emotions. You want Lil to hate him, yet you can't deny her curiosity to learn more about the father she doesn't really know. And Lil is trying to balance her life among humans and Nephilim, which is more than a little difficult, especially when she accidentally uses her powers in front of her human best friend and completely freaks her out.
There's so much I could rave about with this story, but I don't want to spoil anything, so go read it. Betrayed has made my list of all time favorite books. I'll be reading this one over and over again!
I want to start out by saying how much I loved this book. I have never quite enjoyed characters the way that I enjoy these ones. I have found myself to be very much attached to them. I am so glad that I found this series and gave it a chance because boy am I happy that I did. Ednah has a fan for life in me. I will love these characters for ever.
Well Lil is just awesome in everyway. And Bran is perfect. I do not have any faults with any of these great characters. The plot is wonderful. I found myself quickly immersed into the world of guardians and demons. I enjoyed the new set of characters that we get to meet also in this wonderful series. From the very first page I was so drawn in that I did not even realize at times how much time I had spent reading. At night I would look up and my clock would say 2 a.m. and I would still be reading. I think you should plan on having a free day of reading time before you even start this novel.
Ednah has a brilliant way of drawing readers into the beautiful world that she has created. I can not wait for Hunted and I am so excited for it official release date. If you would like to get to know Sykes or Bran more be sure to go and check out my Street Team pages at the top of this blog.
If you are looking for an average read about nephilim, this is not the book for you. Ednah Walters wrote a fast-paced, exciting novel with a large, but interesting cast of characters. Although I did not read the first in the series, I was never confused when reading Betrayed. This book may be the second of the series, but it could definitely be enjoyed by itself. I won’t give away much of the plot for fear of ruining the book, but will say that I was never able to predict what would come next. Lil and Bran’s romance is growing, but secrets keep getting in the way. Lil’s father is continually trying to draw her to evil and the Guardians have a new mission. Time will fly as you read. Teens and young adults will love Betrayed; it has traits of other popular books in this genre, but a flavor all its own. Every character is driven and awesome. Lil is passionate, Bran is mysterious, Sykes is hilarious, etc. I give Betrayed five out of five stars and recommend this book to everyone out there!
I decided to review these books as a series. I truly loved reading these books. The story puts a new twist on super powers, demons and the super natural. From the first page I was hooked and could barely put the books down, I was lacking in sleep until both books were done. I found that Ednah Walters wrote her teenage characters perfectly, they acted and thought like teens and were treated accordingly by the adults in the books. I have often read book where the teens made no sense and sex or passion were never mentioned. In these books that is not the case, I remember being a teen and I was passionate about everything. Ednah Walters truly gets this in her books. The power struggles and the storyline is amazing. The action is unbelievable and really kept me on my toes. Unlike a lot of other books I was unable to figure out what would happen next.
I recommend you read these books they were awesome! As a series, it's a must read. I am so glad I found this series, it's as good as "The Weather Wardens" if not better.
Saw the other edition's cover, and guess what? Topless dude? I don't know what to say to that.... other than, don't judge a book by its cover!
Words to describe this book? Superb. Amazing. Hilarious. Awesome. Lovely. Exciting.
I didn't think this was as good as the first book because the first book was just - I don't even think there are words to describe how I felt about the first book cause it was just so spectacular. But, this book didn't disappoint! It was still full of twists and turns, and I was a bit shocked at some parts because I didn't see it coming at all. So god dang suspenseful and dramatic - I love it!
Best thing about this book? The ... dagger! But then again, you all knew that was going to be it, didn't you?
And the ending? Aweee-some! If you loved the first book, you'll like this one as well! The cover might make you a bit wary, but you've got nothing to worry about...just read it!
