Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

...but you know, if that wasn't for that nightmare, I never would have met my friends. That awful time made me who I am...You don't get to pity my past. I'm fine with my past, because I'm happy with my present.

Life is a rollercoaster ride.

When the life hits the flat bottom, there's only the way "up" left.

It keeps moving up and hits the top, but we are not to be arrogant, since it can be moving downward from that point.

And when it hits the bottom again, it will move upward yet again, so, the natural feeling of disappointment is understandable though, no need to despair and give up on yourself.

We just need to live.

We don't have to give up. Life will always keep on running, so despite all the hardships for now, if we can smile at the end, we will be one of those who will have lived a happy one.

Let's aim for that final smile :)

This was such a great volume and basically features the end of the past story and has a fun encounter between Luffy and Jinbei and we see Hody Joness plans come to fruition as he attacks Neptune and is gonna execute him and we have the montage of reveal as to what he did with the queen and an epic entrance of Luffy and the big fight between him and the Hody's crew starts and its epic! Haki! Crew vs them! And the fight gets even better on all sides! Also Vander planning something sinister!

We finally get to see the crew in action for the first time since the time skip! They all have some fun new tricks up their sleeve. Also the plotlines are starting to come together, but overall this arc feels a little underwhelming.

FISHMAN ISLAND ARC - PART 3
1. who da hell is joyboy

2. icarus and daedalus...?

3. somehow it says a lot that luffy says he loves heroes but he doesn't want to be one, or that he hates being cheered on by anybody.

4. i also feel like the real victim throughout everything is megalo. this guy is swallowing so many people only to vomit them out again

5. im a luffy dick rider whenever he uses haki

The struggle is getting real. Vander Decken IX launched his sinister plan with Noa; the promised ship. I didn't really understand about the history of Dark Ages and the truth behind Shirahoshi. I hope everything will be explain in the future. But I liked how Straw Hat Pirates show their new powers after two years. Yay!

Given the demographics we've seen so far, a host of hundred thousand fishmen and pirate slaves felt like one order of magnitude too many. Even ten thousand's pushing it a little. Not that One Piece was ever the best story for figuring out all the numbers, but this one always stood out even back when I first read it.

I miss the start of One Piece. Naruto started out great too.

They're fantastic stories in their own right, but I have my favorite parts and then what I skip over. These volumes will be what I skip over if I ever revisit One Piece.

I've always loved One Piece, it has always been up there on my favourites list, and for the last nine weeks (since with so many interruptions, it took me a lot longer than predicted to finally finish up to this volume) this has been my best friend, my company. I love One Piece so much, I can't believe that it can have as much drama as a Shojo without being a Shojo manga. I love it. One Piece is the ultimate boy's manga, but also, the ultimate for a girl. It is actiony, hot and dramatic. Monkey D. Luffy is the kind of hero whose not really a hero at all.
Since I'm up to date now, all I can say is this, I am having One Piece withdrawal. And if that's the case, then on my meter of 'the best manga ever' this has already exceeded the 'best ever' mark. I can totally understand why this is the world's best manga. T.T I am crying. Seriously, I haven't been this moved by a manga since I read Ouran High School Host Club, Naruto, Fruits Basket, Nononono, Skip Beat! and Tokyo Crazy Paradise.

I think I also another reason why I like this is probably because it's shonen and does not focus on romance (which I think is great because I've been reading so many Shojo which is aimed at girls and thus has a greater focus on romance). I also liked that because it doesn't focus on romance, the characters have the 'potential' to be romantic for readers - especially if it's a girl. And since the characters themselves don't have romantic inclinations, readers have the chance to imagine themselves being a part of this world and maybe creating a story for themselves. At first I just loved the adventure and the comedy and the characters. It was fun and hilarious and at times very serious - I love the mangaka's way of telling each of the character's background story. Very emotive. I'd also like to point out while I remember, that though we hear a little about Luffy's past in the beginning, like about the Strawhat, you don't actually find out more until it comes to Ace, which I thought was clever, since I never actually realised how little I knew about this idiotic yet brave and caring and moral (nearly, and not quite, since he is a pirate, maybe "just" is a better word?) until we're told more, and that's after we learn the histories of all the other crew members. I thought that was just great...sigh, Lol, too great. Sigh, did I mention I was having One Piece withdrawal???

Anyway, this is great, just great, and I oh yeah, I was reading about One Piece on Wikipedia, and learnt that maybe towards the end he'll have just a tiny bit of romance for Luffy, I'm kind of ecstatic about it - since all great heros deserve someone to love, but at the same time, I don't mind if there isn't. The story is great. I just can't wait to know what happens with One Piece, the 'dangerous weapon' and I wonder what will happen with the World Government. So far it seems so corrupt, and there are so many hints that the WG is not actually justice, but the excuse of justice created. I'm also curious about the lost history that Robin is looking into.

Well I'm just dying to know aren't I, hehe, well, on a final note on this review that is not really like a review, but Robin and Franky - they had such a close intimate moment (even by shonen standards) that I can't help but think they'd be pretty cool together, even if Franky is a cyborg and (at this current volume) four times her size Lol. But still, this, Naruto and Bleach are the only mangas I'm willing to read without romance, it's a nice change (Oh god, nice change sounds sooooo oldlady-like LOL).

2025 reread : I am so weak. I see the crew interacting and bantering and I'm a goner. It's so good to see them have fun together after so long. I know in the manga it's not that long, but upon reread I realized there is like 5+ volumes where we don't see the strawhats interacting so I will argue that there is a gap there and it's nice to be out of it. Impel Down and Marineford are great; but it's amazing to have the crew back together. I can never say it enough.

I have to admit it's good to see them all fight side by sad. And the new fighting techniques are pretty good ^^

Im not the biggest fan of this arc but this volume was better than the last one. The fight at the end was nice and I liked seeing all the crews new tricks. I wish they showed more of Robin though. She's one of my favorite characters since she had more of a serious personality but she's usually off doing her own thing.

I really do not like this arc on the fish-man island but I am powering through and I hope that the next arc will be better. I know that Some future arcs seem good as I have heard about them but I have not heard a lot about the beginning of new world.

yeah so, that part where luffy stopped mid-fight when he heard about the kraken’s brother and assured him that he was gonna protect him? yep, had to stop and cry for a good 5 minutes (okay, 10)
