When you stay put for a long time, you start to like the place of your suffering. It's more natural than going off to seek happiness.Maritime fiction is always a blast. The sea is a multifaceted character—beguiling and unforgiving. Lighthouse keepers tend to go mad and start hallucinating and/or indulging in unspeakable acts as the salty air slowly eats away at their minds. Shipwrecks spilling out bloated dead bodies are commonplace. Sailors are bad news all around, especially for women. Alienation, loneliness, depravity—it's all great fun until everyone dies and their flesh sloughs off to become fish food. Hooray for the sea! (And if you like this, be sure to watch The Lighthouse with Willem Dafoe.)
