About the author

Paul Éluard was the pen name of Eugène Émile Paul Grindel. French poet, a founder of Surrealism with Louis Aragon and André Breton among others, one of the important lyrical poets of the 20th century. Éluard rejected later Surrealism and joined the French Communist Party. Many of his works reflect the major events of the century, such as the World Wars, the Resistance against the Nazis, and the political and social ideals of the 20th-century.

La lectura de esta bellísima colección de poemas de Eduard me hizo recordar ese pensamiento vetusto (y tan trending topic a la vez) según el cual la postura política de un artista importa y mucho. En lugar de un juicio más o menos racional, usualmente esto quiere decir "cuando no me gusta su opinión política" y punto.

Eduard se volvió un comunista más que fiel, escribió elegías a Stalin y lo defendió cuando este mandó a matar poetas (amigos de él). ¿Feo, no? En los días que duró la lectura, justo vi Akhmatova, la ópera de Bruno Mantovani que trata justamente

Me importa tres pitos, en este libro hay algunos de lo poemas más hermosos, luminosos y valientes que haya leído.
