Secrets can hurt . . .

Bitter and resigned to a life alone, Quinlan Kinncaid swore he’d never marry—until the eccentric Ella Ferguson barged headlong into his life. But before he can trust his own feelings and build a new life with Ella, she’s gone, and he’s left with a secret so big he can’t even bear to tell his own family.

Some secrets can destroy. . .

Ella Ferguson is as independent as she is beautiful, and though she knows rich boys never last in the long run, she doesn’t see the harm in a fling with Quinlan. After their amorous weekend threatens to become a lifelong commitment, she runs, figuring it’s better to put Quin and her past behind her. Then Ella discovers a secret of her own, and telling Quin may rip both their worlds apart.

And some secrets can kill . . .

What neither of them realize is that a malevolent man knows Ella’s secret, and he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. Afraid for her life and more alone than ever, Ella must learn to forgive herself before she can beg the forgiveness of the one man who can save her. Now it’s up to Quinlan to overcome his stubborn pride in time to save Ella and the only thing that matters.

Finally, the fifth book in the Deadly series by Jaycee Clark. I am one of those people who have waited years for Quinlan's story. Quin's brothers kidnap him for a New Orleans vacation and while there he meets blue-haired Ella and they sneak off to Vegas and get married. Almost right away Ella decides it was a mistake and they end up apart. Until Ella calls Quin for help and he rushes to New Mexico.

I was actually a tad disappointed in this one. I think the way the story went from past to present and so forth bothered me some. But my biggest problem with the story was Ella. I really didn't care for her. I eventually warmed to her towards the end but she got on my nerves a lot. I give it 3.5 stars and round it up to 4 because the story itself was good and fast-paced and we got to revisit the Kinncaid family.

I had a hard time finishing this book because of the plot and the characters. The hero is the youngest brother and dull throughout the book and so is the heroine. He hasn't been dealing with the events of the last book well so his brothers take him to New Orleans where he meets the blue haired heroine. It's insta-connection and they end up married. The heroine acts stupid and bails and doesn't tell the hero she is pregnant until her baby is stolen. Honestly, the heroine acted stupid as hell, her reasons for not telling the hero were hollow and even when she knew the place she was working at was dangerous she continued. The book was a drag for me. And the whole FBI agent thing was weird.

Jaycee Clark´s Kinncaid Brothers series is hot hot hot and this latest is no exception. In this book we get to dive into the youngest of the brothers, Quinlan, as we watch him fall for an odd girl with blue hair. Odd and flighty! You can expect a lot of drama and suspense interlaced with anger and heartbreak. At times I just wanted to shake some sense into Ella even though I knew she was going through a lot. I personally didn't buy into her reasons for being so flighty but I still enjoyed this book. I couldn't stop reading and unfortunately finished sooner than I wanted. I waited so long for this book to be released and now I'm mad because I'm done.

Pretty ridiculous but the story did flow well

I've enjoyed this series so far, but I think Im ready to call it quits. The unrealistic scenerios just keep getitng more far fetched. This was probably my least favorite so far, because I never really felt the connection to the hero and heroine. Going from the past to present repeatedly became tiring. I do have to say, even though I wasn’t emotionally invested with the characters, Jaycee Clark knows how to make an exciting plot and storyline. While I wont continue this particular series anymore, I will deifnaltey check out more of her work.

I have really enjoyed this series of the Kinncaid Brothers by Jaycee Clark and when I started book five I was a little hesitant as Quinlan had not inspired a lot of excitement in me to date. Jaycee did not disappoint, however, with Quinlan and Ella’s story and I was left on the edge of my seat through most of the book. I truly felt my heart pounding at several points in the story and fell in love with the lead characters. What a great ending to the series!

3.5 Stars Deadly Secrets is an adult contemporary romantic suspense thriller by Jaycee Clark and the 5th book in her Deadly (Kinncaid Brothers) series.

The youngest of five boys, Quinlan Kinncaid learned years ago that it took too much energy to fight off his four older siblings than it did to just go with the flow. His brothers all have their own home, their own families to fill them, and what does he have? A permanent limp. A job he doesn't enjoy anymore. An empty bed that he has no desire to fill. And shrink appointments, which are supposed to help him deal with things. So when his brothers plan an intervention, kidnapping him for an impromptu trip to New Orleans, Quinlan decides to just go along and bide his time. Tired of them all, bitter about his handicaps—the result of injuries he sustained last year that nearly killed him—and resigned to a life alone, he swore he’d never marry … until the eccentric Ella Ferguson barges headlong into his life. But before he can trust his own feelings and build a new life with her, she’s gone, and he’s left with a secret so big he can’t even bear to tell his own family.

An independent free spirit, Ella Ferguson knows from personal experience that rich boys never last in the long run, but she doesn’t see the harm in a having a fling with Quinlan. After their amorous weekend threatens to become a lifelong commitment, she runs, figuring it’s better to put Quinlan and her past behind her. Taking a new job, in a new town, Ella packs up her life in New Orleans and moves to New Mexico. Shortly after, she discovers a secret of her own, and telling Quinlan may rip both their worlds apart.

What neither of them realizes is that a malevolent man knows Ella’s secret, and he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. Afraid for her life and more alone than ever, Ella must learn to forgive herself before she can beg the forgiveness of the one man who can save her. Now it’s up to Quinlan to overcome his stubborn pride in time to save Ella and the only thing that matters …

Deadly Secrets is a well-written, romantic suspense thriller, but I have to say, this one was a miss for me. I’ve really enjoyed the whole series thus far, but truthfully, was disappointed in this story. My biggest problem was with Ella. I just didn’t care for her. She was flighty, whinny, and more of a damsel-in-distress than the strong female characters that I’ve come to expect from these stories. Quinlan’s bitterness was explained well, and frankly to be expected considering the events that led to his handicaps—read Deadly Games first to find out exactly what happened to him. Deadly Secrets is a chilling story and emotional read of self-discovery, the power of love, healing, and the strength of family ties with a satisfying HEA.

Content: graphic language, mild violence, explicit sex, and oral.

I also recommend: Deadly Shadows (Deadly, #1) by Jaycee Clark Deadly Ties (Deadly, #2) by Jaycee Clark Deadly Obsession (Deadly, #3) by Jaycee Clark Deadly Games (Deadly, #4) by Jaycee Clark

My Review:
Overall.... 5.0
Performance... 5.0
Story.... 5.0
I thought book #4 in this series was going to be the best in the group. I was wrong. This book...wow...this book blew me away. And I completely ignored every single thing I needed to do in my life to read/listen to it because I absolutely could not pull myself away from this story. Wow...it was just so good!!

This book is written completely different from the others as there are events happening in present day and events happening in the past all in conjunction in the story. Every chapter takes place in a different timeframe with something incredibly shocking and shattering happening in that first chapter. Then you spend the next half of the book trying to figure out exactly how Quin and Ella got to where they were at in that first chapter. It's an incredible way to write a book and it literally kept me riveted to the story. I could not walk away. I NEEDED to know what happened and how in the world anything was going to be okay again. As a reader and a writer, it was an incredible lesson in how to create and weave an unforgettable, completely suspenseful story. I cannot stress to you how good this book was.

And I don't know what to say without giving anything away. OMG...because each and every little revelation steals your breath away as you read it. I don't want to do anything to jeopardize that experience for any other reader. These characters, this story...just wow! When I hit a book this good, I have a hard time sticking to just the audiobook, because I can read it so much faster. My hubby kept laughing at me on this one. Johanna Parker's narration was so good and her ability to express the emotion of the story was amazing. I couldn't walk away from the audiobook. So I got where I would listen to the beginning of the chapter with audio, reading along on my kindle. Then I would stop and read the last half of the chapter with just my kindle. That way I was able to move it along faster without completely abandoning the incredible narration.

So, so, so good. This entire series has been incredible, but this book was perfection. I have loved getting to know the Kinncaids and am truly sad to let them go. It's been a great series. Thank you to my friend, Amy, for pushing me to read this. It's taken me a couple of years to get to them, but that way I was able to read them all back-to-back...so it worked.

A phenomenal series!!

Deadly Secrets is the 5th installment from the Kinncaid Brothers series. I loved this book.

It was filled with lots of twists and turns, and very emotional scenes. It was also fast paced and action packed. This one touched on human trafficking and illegal baby selling operation.

Quinlan’s story actually started at the end of Ian’s book Deadly Games and continues on.

Emotionally ruined by his injuries Quin has shut down from everyone including his own family. He doesn’t trust women and is clearly withdrawn until he meets Ella.

Ella has also been hurt in the past and even though she doesn’t want a relationship, immediately is attracted to Quin. Their relationship starts up really fast and before you know it or they, their married.

But each are so emotionally scarred that both pretty much run away from each other. Then Ella finds out she’s pregnant but she’s too afraid to say anything to him. Things go down hill from there and what happens from then is up to Quin and Ella to work together to stop.

As with all the other books, I loved that all the Kinncaids were there for support and willing to jump in to help. The Kinncaid family is a strong close knit family who is willing to protect their own.

Great emotional, heartwarming story with lots of suspense and romance. Well written and very enjoyable.

Can you say AWESOME……
I started reading the 1st books in this series (they can be read in order or as stand alones) 5:54pm Friday and by 7:29am Monday morning I had finished the 5th book. Yes I barely left the house all weekend and I was late for work Monday!
This romantic suspense series has fantastic characters, the author has made them come alive. As you read these books you immerse yourself into the characters’ lives, you become vested in them overcoming obstacles, defeating the bad guys and living happily ever after. The author has created a nice balanced between the suspense and the romance in these books. Throughout each book you’re on the edge of your seat waiting for the dark menace in the background to kill and destroy; yet the development of relationships is at the forefront of these books, as well as the traumatic events which lead up to this point in the their lives.
To sum up: Hot rich alpha males, strong wounded heroines, hot sex scenes, great characters, terrific storylines and very suspenseful.

WOW! I didn't think Quin's tale would be as interesting as any of his brother's especially after just finishing Ian's saga. But O how wrong I was. My interest was peeked from the beginning, my heart was racing in the middle, and almost stopped beating in the end. What a great ride! I cannot wait for Deadly Beginnings.

Quinlan is the youngest brother and a bit boring. The switching back and forth in time was hard for me not to mention the girl was just plain stupid.

I am a huge fan of JC and the Kinncaid's in particular, but I am not a fan of a prologue that is a future event. By definition a prologue is a preliminary discourse; a preface or introductory part of a discourse, poem, or novel. INTRODUCTORY, not something that happens halfway through the novel you are about to read. Because of this, I skipped A BUNCH of the middle chapters and don't feel like I missed much when I got to the point where the prologue leaves off. I did like the book, but in my opinion, it wasn't my favorite. Will that detract me from reading future JC books? Absolutely not.

This is the final book in this series and Quinlan's story and what a surprise it is. He was married without his family knowing after a whirlwind weekend in New Orleans to a spitfire with blue hair. Ella left Quin and moved to New Mexico and when she found out she was pregnant she didn't reach out right away. When working for a Spa there she found out something was not right and when finally she could not wait any longer called Quin and reached out for help and he immediately heads her way but he is not in time to help. The troops gather and rally and are on the hunt for the stolen baby. This one is full of twists and past and present and so, so good.

I liked Deadly Secrets with as crazy as the storyline was. Jaycee Clark gave me a lot of suspense which made up some of the nonsense. In my opinion there is a lot of repetition from the characters. Things just kept being repeated over and over. I enjoyed the family banter and how they had each others backs. I love the banter between the brothers. My biggest complaint is it is very slow moving. I read in The Deadly Series Boxed Set (Deadly, #1-5).

3 Stars!

This book packs some major punches! And the past-to-present shifts hooked me from the start!

Though I don't know what to feel about the heroine, Ella. I adored her in the first part of the book, the time she and Quinlan first met. She's sassy, full of life, sweet, and downright fun! Everything's going great between them, even after their disastrous, spur-of-the-moment Vegas wedding. Then all hell broke loose. Emma left Quin and ran away. From there, I found her irritatingly childish. I understand what happened to her. It was heartbreaking, and I get it! My heart broke for her. But, ugh, she's so whiny, she kept crying and saying... "My baby... they have my baby... my baby... my baby! It started grating on my already frayed nerves! I'm just so glad Ian has the guts to say this to her face: "All you do is mope and cry! Yes, that's fucking right! In the end, I don't care about her. I'm just glad that they found the baby, just for Quin's sake!

Quinlan appeared in the previous books, but we weren't given anything about him aside from the fact that he's the youngest and the one managing the hotel alongside Aiden. Nothing. Until Book 4, and if you read the previous book, you know what happened to him. And Deadly Secrets picked up where Deadly Games left off. Honestly, I didn't know what to feel about Quinlan at first... but as the story progressed, I found myself falling for him. He's broody, complex, and sexy as sin! And I loved that he's different from his brothers in the looks department. Don't get me wrong, he's as gorgeous as the rest of the Kincaid brothers, but he got his looks from his mom. Red hair, green eyes... I loved green eyes!

The chemistry between them was off the charts! I loved their first meeting, their first date; I loved everything about it! The playful and flirty banter between them was great. I'm not exactly a fan of inta-love, insta-lust, or insta-anything. But the insta in this book worked for me. The only thing that didn't work for me was Ella's reasons for walking out on their marriage and leaving Quin. All the drama could have been avoided if she hadn't been stupid.

Overall, it was a great read! I enjoyed seeing familiar faces. It was nice to know that all the Kincaid brothers were settled and happy. I also enjoyed watching Jock and Katie; they were such a sweetheart!

This has been a great series. I am sorry to have read the final book about the Kinncaid Brothers. This is Quinlan's story and it is good. The beginning was good, the middle sucked, but the ending came close to redeeming the thing. Overall, 3.5 stars. Not great, but any book that makes me cry and feel isn't all bad. Just beware of all the angst through the middle.

Quinlan almost died in the last book and he is living with pain and a permanent limp. He is also living with the fact that he seriously misjudged and woman and almost died because of it. His brothers kidnap him for an extended weekend in New Orleans. There he meets Ella and it's lust at first sight for them both. Whirlwind trip to Las Vegas has them married and Ella running away. Quin tracks her down and the start to realize there is something there to build a future on. Ella runs again, this time to Taos, NM. She teaches yoga at a place for pregnant women, which is also a front for a shady adoption outfit. Ella is also pregnant and fearful. The baddies work on her fears and she doesn't tell Quin until it's to late. The Kinncaid family has some trying times and Quin show what he's really made of.

I'm quite interested that some other reviewers didn't enjoy this one as much as others in the series and how they commented less positively about Ella; I really connected with her for some reason and for me she was one of the best things about the story. I felt less certain about Quin - I feel like his character could have been developed further as there were some tantalising comments about his art and something that happened to him as a child that never got expanded on and I would have liked to have known more. I liked the way the story moved back and forth in time, and felt the author used this quite effectively. I would like to see some stories developed around some of the side characters, probably because I am a sucker for seeing more of those who have already achieved their happy endings. Good ending to a series that for me developed in quality and interest across the books.

I thought it would be better. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but there was something that was wrong. The backcover story led me to think something else entirely different, but the story was really simple. All was a big misunderstanding. The heroine was too whinny, even if why she was so, at least in the last part of the book, was understandable. But at the biginning I thought that she would be different, that she would be pro-active and strong. Instead she just fell short and become a soft damisel-in-distress type better suited to a boddice-ripper historicals. Her reasons was actually stupid (as he herself says in the second part of the book).
The same could be said for the hero.
It was worth reading for the background story. I really hated the "villain" and his reasoning.

If you've read the first four books - you must read Quinlan's story. I was really looking forward to this one and I have to say i was disappointed in how things played out for him. I liked Ella for him, but she treated him pretty crappy and he didn't deserve that. He gets kicked down over and over by her. She marries him and leaves him the next day, then he pursues her and she still ends up telling him she doesn't want to be married, then she doesn't tell him she's pregnant, then when she finally does call him, their baby get stolen. I try to avoid books the deal with stolen child plot because it is just not a topic I want to get lost in, so that is a downer in this book for me too. Overall it was well written, full of emotion and a good story. 3.5

Quinlan Kinnakade is mad and depressed because he was lured by a psychopath into almost killing his family and causing him to have a disabled leg from a bullet wound. His brothers decide to take him on a forced vacation to New Orleans where he meets a blue haired beauty named Ella. Within a few days they are married in Las Vegas by an Elvis impersonator. Nine months later when Ella is in danger and pregnant she calls him for help. Can he save her and his baby?

Another hit by Jaycee Clark! I do not even know what to write anymore because all my accolades have been used up while reviewing her other books. The plot was fabulous and the characters only get better with each installment.

I read this as part of The Deadly Series Boxed Set.

I found Quin to be pretty dull in the previous books, so my expectations were low. Turns out I liked it much better than I expected, almost as much as Ian's book, which was my favorite.

This book (as with Ian's) is much more focused on the suspense than the romance. It kept me interested the whole time. Ian was in this book quite a bit and that helped!

I thought I would hate Ella (I hate secret pregnancy story lines), but she took responsibility for being so stupid and selfish. And I did believe she truly loved Quin. She and Quin were a good match, she brought some life to him.

This whole series was worth reading, I've enjoyed them all.
