This book is full of wonderful pieces that serve as inspiration for doing your own thing. There are a range of projects to try out with instructions on how to begin but with enough scope to ensure that you can run with your own creative ideas.
This book is bad. It’s “step by stem” is more like jump by jump. The wording is bad and the “commentary” doesn’t even make sense! I would never by this book and highly don’t suggest it. Even the doodles are boring and it’s a small book! There is absolutely no reason to buy this when you could look up better on YouTube or Pinterest.
Zentangle has gotten me through some rough times. It’s relaxing, fun, and you don’t have to be an artist to do it. The best thing about Zentangle is that there is no right or wrong. If you make a mistake, just keep going! Have fun tangling!
I think this book is alright. I’m not very into art but I like the concept of doodling. I like how you are able to express yourself through this art. I enjoy reading the matching quotes beside each doodle. Overall the book would be more appealing to an artist unlike me.
A quick read. Not really informative but some interesting examples to launch off of. It will stay on my shelf for the time I have a blank creative moment.
Have you've been working through the basic Zentangle books and have mastered a handful of Tangles, but wondered why your art wasn't as awesome as those found online? It's all about composition! Yes, that takes a bit of planning using the analytical part of your brain. But once you've established the composition of your piece, you can plunge right back into your creative, happy Zen mindset.
Each page of this book contains a complex multi-tangle Zentangle art piece and breaks it down into easy-to-mimic sections. I was amazed at the professional quality my doodles took while working through this book. I highly recommend it as a workbook and study guide.
More of a gallery of exquisite examples and Zentangle possibilities than a how to guide. Readers will find inspiration within the art of this book but the projects are only broken down into 3 steps with small images which might make it hard to recreate them. Also, no introduction to Zentangle basics is provided which does not make this a book for beginners. Nonetheless, the creativity of the projects, especially the animals, make this book worth reading for those interested in creating Zentangle.
I enjoyed this and found some truly inspiring ideas. I don't appreciate all of the artists, but most have some truly creative ideas. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys the pattern drawing techniques using Zentangle. There are some truly fun ideas within the covers.
Only a handful of the zen doodles caught my eye. Many were rudimentary or just not what I was looking for. The step-by-step how-to boxes on each page were vague. Only consider this for general ideas and possible inspiration, not instructional guide for creating patterns.
Some of the other books about Zentangle seem to focus on the theory behind it and don't actually show you how to get started. This book is great for beginners because it gives you the basics *and* shows you how to actually draw them.
