Ebyan Jama has always led a life of clarity. She stayed away from boys, prayed everyday and never let even her most passionate dream to become a musician stand in the way of her faith. Her devotion to Islam and pride in her African roots provided her an unshakeable foundation.
Unshakeable, until her world was turned upside down and her heart was ignited the moment she locked eyes with Noreen Iqbal.
Noreen was everything Ebyan could ever want in a friend. Sweet, kind, loyal and selfless to a fault. Noreen made Ebyan feel things she had never felt before. She found it nearly impossible to break from Noreen.
What Ebyan thought was an innocent friendship turned into a life altering love affair. A relationship, which has Ebyan for the first time in her life, doubting herself and her faith. She turned into someone she didn’t recognize by a love too powerful to control. She searched for the answer to the one question that could ruin everything she has ever worked for her entire life.

Religion and homosexuality don't mix. Ebyan, one of the main characters, struggled to satisfy the rules of family, to live in both faith and lesbianism. But she had to choose.

Wow. Amazing. Extraordinary. Real. Loving You Wasn’t Enough by my dear friend Fatima Warsame, is a remarkable read! It speaks to the inner most parts of the soul… The parts plagued with controversy and moral dilemma. The natural parts that define you as a human being, the superficial parts that limit your courage to be you and the deepest parts that show you what love, though not always orthodox, means. I’m a very strong believer that there’s always a book to help you make sense of the past, guide you to the future and there’s always a book to help you identify self. It’s amazing to think that I’ve learned so much from such an unlikely teacher.
This amazing story of two strong hearted women (Noreen and Ebyan), battling with their love for one another and the expectation of their families, is so true to life and so real that the dynamics and emotions displayed in this love story become your own. The ability to identify and empathize with Ebyan throughout this page turning novel, indeed caught me off guard to say the least. This intriguing story of Ebyan, a devout Muslim, and Noreen, further reminds me that there’s always that one person that has the power to turn your life upside down! In this case I believe it was for the better! Loving You Wasn’t Enough, emphasizes that no matter what your ethnic, cultural, or religious background, we are all united by the same thing, our uncontrollable predisposition to be human.
Literature has failed so miserably, since the Harry Potter series, to take me to a different world, to see a different view and to dream of, even after I have finished, what will happen next. This review is in no way to reveal the “plot twist” or to give a synopsis, this review is aimed to encourage readers, who want to read and engage themselves in a mind blowing novel, to pick up Loving You Wasn’t Enough by Fatima Warsame today! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the many more breathtaking works to come. Kudos to you Fatima!
