This book will make you angry, disgusted, and horrified. After reading this, You may ask yourself, how can this be allowed to be published? But I follow up with a more important question, Why are you reading it? You can choose to go on living your life without ever seeing the horror that stains these pages. No one needs to know. I won’t tell. But if you decide to go forward, don’t say I didn’t warn you. There is violence, SA, nail guns, hot sauce, and you will probably never look at your mouthwash the same again. If you are not a fan of splatterpunk or extreme horror, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK.
Meet Slick..
His days are spent on the streets, but not out of necessity. He's not poor; he's a panhandler by choice. Until one day, he is drawn to a woman's intoxicating scent. After weeks he surrenders to his obsession, unable to resist the allure that permeates the air around her.
As his fixation intensifies, he follows her every move, learning her patterns and her routines. One fateful night, driven by his uncontrollable longing, he decides to break into her home, searching for anything that carries her essence. But fate, cruel and unforgiving, intervenes when the couple unexpectedly returns, forcing him to hide in the darkest depths of their basement.
In this EXTREME HORROR NOVELLA of obsession and forbidden secrets, boundaries are shattered, revealing the darkness lurking within us all. What could Slick possibly witness in this basement? Read and find out!
This was brutal! I didn't read the synopsis at all, just went into this without any expectations other than knowing it was extreme horror, and I didn't see the twist coming at all.
I know I've ranted about this many times before, but so much of the extreme horror I've read has been poorly written with very bland characters and predictable plots that rely on grossing the reader out more than telling a story, so I'm always extra impressed when I pick up an extreme horror book and find depravity and successful story-telling. 😂
I digress, but that combo is what I got from A Crack in the Foundation. None of the characters are lovable by any means, but they feel more or less authentic and it makes the punches hit a little harder. The gore is gross and brutal, but it enhances the plot instead of burying it. This definitely isn't for anyone who's uncomfortable with graphic violence and SA, but if you're okay with that content, it was a really good read and I'm excited to read more from this author.
The authors note at the end " you made it through one of the most violent books I've ever written.im not sure whether that warrants a pat on the back or a call to ur nearest therapist ". I'll uh... take the pat on the back for now. Thanks...
i’ve read it’s me, charlie by this author before which i gave three stars to, so it’s not my first time reading a book by them. this one didn’t quite work out for me.
the characters weren’t all that well developed. the mc was just this guy who constantly felt sorry for himself and the others were a bit basic, there wasn’t anything special about them.
the writing style was also simplistic. i didn’t expect it to be a work of art since it was an extreme horror novela, but i wish it was a bit more engaging and subtle. it was a quick read though, so i appreciate it for that!
the plot was just pure torture and i don’t know, it felt quite similar to a lot of see other extreme horror books i’ve read before. it didn’t do anything to me. i mean, granted, it’d be fucked up irl, but in the book it just makes me feel bored. i already knew what was gonna happen and i love to be surprised when i’m reading a horror book, or any book for that matter. personally, i don’t think i can recommend this one cos it is a torture type book, but also because i didn’t particularly like it in general. it’s me, charlie was unique and this one just didn’t live up to me.

What I Liked: 1. The premise of the book 2. The characters felt alive for such a short novella 3. So much action and violence packed into the story 4. Writing style was great
What I Didn't Like: 1. Some errors in the book 2. Could have pushed the gore up a few more notches
Overall Thoughts: This book is pretty short but I got it the next day it was released. After reading It’s me, Charlie I had to get this one.
Right from the start of the book you know you’re in for a special treat when you meet Slick and his infected dick. Lol. He loves anal with Mikki and panhandling to pay his bills. Slick is not a good person and you aren’t cheering for him in anyway or any form. When he becomes obsessed with Shelli and her sweet smell he follows her home over a week. Sneaking into her home he steals her perfume and jerks his meat to her used panties with a grand finale of sperming into some mouthwash. Unfortunately the home owners return.
I was really sucked into this. The characters were well written for how short the story is. Everything is presented to you in a good and easy way to understand that doesn’t leave you confused and questioning if you missed something. The story just flows so much so I was never bored. There is endless things happening and action scenes that kept me hitting my nails if Slick was going to be caught.
My only missing star was that felt as though the gore could been more. I know that this is the most extreme writing that the author has done before but I just know that once she keeps pushing herself she is going to take us readers on some fun rides of some messed up shit. I’ll be here for it.
Final Thoughts: I had a fun time reading this book. I love the writing style. The author has that special touch of just making you feel like you are in the story. I felt like I was in that closet with Slick.
This book reminded me of Perfume & The Collector (if the collector was a scary cat).
I loved the end notes; “And to those people, I just want to say I made sure to mutilate the guy's dick as well.” I had a good laugh at that.
Slick is a panhandler. One day he notices a young woman and is desperate for her intoxicating smell that he finds himself breaking into her home when her and her husband go out for the night to take home a few souvenirs for himself to tickle his fancy. Just as he’s about to leave they come back home and he decides to hide in a nearby closet until the coast is clear. Something unexpected happens and Slick finds himself in a quite dire position.
I really liked this one! This is my second read by C.M. Guidroz and it didn’t disappoint! Looking forward to reading more of her twisted stories.
Tf did I just read. I just love this girls imagination. IM HERE FOR IT GIRL! Zero triggers. Keep em coming. I tell people about this book who I know can handle darkness and all kinds of ill sh*t. I’d reread n recommend to anyone without a soul.
This... Creation of an extreme horror novel was very graphic and very violent to put it lightly. I read most of this cringing, breathing holy shit many times out loud, and feeling sick. Read this after the authors other book it's me, Charlie and comparing this book to that is like comparing a baseball bat to a chainsaw. To be honest, this will perhaps be the first book I can't bring myself to rate because it's left me quite shaken up. And to give it any kind of star makes me feel like I'm digging myself closer to hell. Excuse me while I dive back into my thriller books now.
What would you do if you gave her everything and she threw it all away?
In this story we follow a stunning woman who embodys power and beauty. One day a man whose proffered job is a panhandling, gets some money from this lady. Obsessed with the way that she smells, he starts stalking her. One day his obsession with her smell has landed him inside their home, but they came back a little early.
This was such a fantastic read, I didn’t see half of this stuff coming and the gore was written so beautifully. If you love genital mutation, this is the book for you :))
If you’re looking for a book that a giant steaming pile of messed up shiz piled on more messed up shiz with hot sauce on top… this one’s for you 😏 iykyk
A Crack in the Foundation by @c.m.guidroz ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Slick isn’t the best guy around, he’s up to no good and lets his urges lead him astray. Unfortunately for him, his choices have dire consequences…
⭐️ This story is just 😍😍 Love the originality! ⭐️ The title is so much more than the focal theme of the story, it really makes you think about the cracks in each character ⭐️ The gore is INTENSE ⭐️ I nearly vomited several times, the details are so disgustingly brilliant! ⭐️ The story was so well written, every detail hits you on a visceral level - true Splatterpunk style! 👏🏻
Ps I will never look at mouthwash or Louisiana hot sauce the same way again 😳😳😳
I absolutely adored this book, I really love what I’ve read by this author..my next will be Love and Formaldehyde 😍
Omg!!! This is a very short novella with a ton of crazy dark, violent, gory action and I read it in one day. I weirdly enjoyed this a lot, I did wince a few times but I never considered not finishing it. A panhandler, Slick sees and smells a beautiful woman while panhandling and becomes obsessed with her scent so much so he follows her for a few weeks. One night he decides to break into her home while her and her husband are out. He accidentally over stays his welcome and they come home and in order to not get caught he winds up down in the basement in a closet where he gets a front row seat for the vengeance Eric (hubby) takes out on Shelli (his wife) and Hanson (husband boss, best friend and her lover). It get gory and crazy fast!! Unless you have no trigger do not go into this book blind, it is a wild ride!!
Apart from some grammatical errors and repeated verbiage, this book is fucking GREAT. The fact that such unique depravity can be thought of is pretty remarkable. Normally when I read books, I can derive some sort of outside inspiration that the author must've had when writing their novel; however, with this book, it completely felt like an original concept. To have such an aboriginal idea played out so masterfully in a mere 100 pages is outstanding and shows how superlative C.M. Guidroz is. It is 2024. Anything that can be done in horror/novellas has pretty much already been done....so to come across something that HASN'T been done before has left me feeling beyond impressed. I'm truly disappointed that there isn't another few hundred pages of this story to tear through because WOW. Such an intriguing prose. I can't wait to read more work from Guidroz. Well fucking done 👏
When I saw C.M. Guidroz announce her book on TikTok I knew I had to buy it.
A Crack in the Foundation is about a panhandling man that is pretty much the scum of the earth who becomes obsessed with a passerby's scent. He follows her home and breaks in, only to find he is getting more than he bargained for.
This was brutal, horrible, disgusting, and unforgettable. Everything I was hoping for was delivered perfectly. Guidroz knows how to gross readers out, there are elements in each book I've read that are stuck with me forever and make me look at certain objects with vomit in my mouth. She's done it again and I will need to add this to my shelf, sitting right next to It's Me, Charlie.
What a ride! We have been yet again blessed with this delicious masterpiece from C.M. Guidroz!!!
This was disgusting. This was bloody. This was sick. This was mad. I fucking loved it! My dark black soul ate this up! I definitely didn't see the twist, now that's a good twist!
I had SO much fun reading this on my kindle. I was laughing, highlighting and noting like it was my job! Lol if you thought it's me Charlie was bad.....yall better buckle up! Lol
Go read this book! Love it and show the author some love! Also .......
I get it. Team Eric 🤣 (Yes I'm questioning my life with saying team Eric Lol I don't wanna spoil anything so READ THIS BOOK!)
Disclaimer: only read this book if you have zero triggers!!!
Shelli?! When you angered your husband you broke him. Trapped in a basement during a break-in (to steal a woman’s panties and perfume), Slick watches as absolute horror unfolds. All he wanted to do was smell her and now he’s getting more than he bargained for, not to mention he now smells things he doesn’t want to.
Medieval torture meets modern day technology and techniques as a man can no longer handle his wife and how she has made him feel during their marriage. We only thought he’ll hath no fury like a woman scorned. For once a man showed us up.
This is the third C.M. Guidroz book I've read and wow.... this one was brutal! 😬 I don't know what it says about me, but I couldn't put this down. If you are going to read the trigger warnings on any book... let it be this one because you're really in for it on this journey. The attention to detail throughout the whole novella really just make it that much more gross. Talk about a wrong place at the wrong time situation for Slick.... 😅 This is a great short read for those who enjoy an extreme splatterpunk style horror story. Key word on extreme. This is NOT the story you want if you are just dipping your toes into the horror genre.
Well I couldn't help myself after reading My Sweet Livy I had to see what other thing this author has written and saw that this was just recently released I was like lets see what this one brings..... It brought brutality violence and pain this author fuckin rules and this shit made my junk hurt so congrats to ya on that and I won't ever look at hot sauce and nail guns the same for a while. C.M. fucking rules and fucking brings it this short pulls no punches goes full throttle and hits like a fucking freight train I highly recommend this book and author.
Ok listen I had no clue what I was getting into 😂 I kept seeing the author post about it on TikTok and something about a nail gun and hot sauce. I mean I read Den Of Vipers and The Ritual I can handle that, WRONG! Lol this was so amazing and creative but also had my sick to my stomach to the point I had to stop reading a handful of times! One of those books to say “ what did I just read?!” But your also amazed by the authors mind and slightly worried for her 😅 Horror Novella very short but oh so good!
This book was amazing! If you're looking for a fast-paced, unexpected, gory, well-written novella with unhinged acts, look no further. After finishing the book and reading the author's note, I had to include it… 🔪'You made it through one of the most violent books I've ever written. I'm not sure whether that warrants a pat on the back or a call to your nearest therapist.' 🔪
🎃favorite quote: Now, I really do feel like I'm watching a movie play out before my eyes, one that I didn't buy tickets to see.🎃
Couldn't put the book down the second I bought it. Still feel sick to my stomach. I was not ready for that plot twist. My jaw hit the damn floor. I don't want to give anything away, but if you thought Its Me, Charlie was disgusting, then you're not going to be able to handle this one.🤮🤮🤮
“Good old Louisiana hot sauce. It always feels like home. You know I put this shit on everything.”
This was a fast paced and gory read. You’ve got Slick, who ends up caught in a situation he should have never been in. But his obsession with the woman that passes him every day on the street is too much to resist. Now, he’s stuck witnessing the brutal murder of his obsession and her lover.
