Love how there were plenty of simple, delicious recipes in here for those of us not accustomed to cooking. I have somehow managed to live with lovers who were splendid cooks and didn't mind enabling my aversion to cooking. Recently when I started to live alone again, I was honest with myself and admitted that the reason the meals I prepared didn't turn out well is because I was either too impatient to cook them properly (my neighbors probably hate me because of the blaring fire-alarm at 12am when I turn my stove to the highest heat to get my food done faster. Apparently cooking doesn't work that way...) or just didn't look at the directions (although I'm an avid reader, directionals were always too boring).
After facing my troubles with being a lazy cooker with never enough time to dedicate to elaborate meals, I've turned over a new leaf. The first cookbook I checkout from the library was Reno's. Her explanations are clear, concise, and aren't overly wordy. She also has many recipes that are quick, for those of us always working overtime, and packed with nutrition. Never before have I had a smoothie for breakfast the filled me up until lunch, gave me enough energy that I could forgo coffee that morning, and was made with all healthy ingredients.
I'm even considering buying her cookbook. Me buying a cookbook and actually enjoying the process of making my own, healthy food? I think all of my family, friends and lovers who have consistently cooked for me over the years might have a panic attack.
This isn't a bad cookbook. Tosca Reno seems a bit fond of herself. There are pictures of herself all over every book of hers I've looked through. This one has a lot of pictures of female family members too. I get it. They're fit and healthy. but after awhile, who cares? I'd rather look at food. :D There's some interesting recipes in here. A lot of them sound good, but when you really read them, they turn out to seem to be a lot of work to make. Complicated. Most of her recipes not being vegan or gluten free means that my selections from her recipes are limited as well. But I got a few good ones copied down from it, like Sweet Potato Custard with Spiced Walnut Clusters. I do appreciate her healthier "clean"er approach to food. I'd recommend this to omnivores interested in healthier, cleaner eating. Who aren't looking for 5 minute meals. and don't mind a lot of personal pictures, of course.
First let me say that I enjoy all of Tosca's books and have every one of them. So when I got this cookbook, I glanced through it and just similar recipes to the ones I have seen before and though I would never make them. However, last night I took my time and went through the book carefully and fell in love with so many of the recipes. I actually would like to try and cook all of them because they look so good.
I also like that she gives information about herbs, sweeteners, sauces and much more.
Tosca has another winner and I look forward to eating a lot of the recipes.
I tried some of these recipes and I wasn't a fan. I was disappointed. I need variety to continue to eat clean & unfortunately this book didn't work for me.
