I couldn't help myself. I had to continue this series. Bullet River by Dan Ames continues where the first book left us. Trying to keep a low profile after the affair with the lawyers "The Garbage Collector" stays in Florida housesitting. Out kayaking he finds a dead women that he knows from Detroit and we are of on a new hard boiled journey.
The strangely - nicknamed Garbage Collector is ostensibly a bar owner in a Nowheresville town, who has an interesting, (to say the least) side-line in 'taking out' the trash - aka those who are deemed to deserve it and bring a peculiar token to the bar from the Collector's employer.
The GC is currently house-sitting in Florida, to evade the 'interest' of hostile gang-bosses after he saved a girl from one of their strip clubs and got her into a new, anonymous life, taking a little piece of the Garbage Collector's heart with her. When he later finds her body floating in the river he's kayaking in, the Garbage Collector vows a Reacher-style revenge, aided by Joey, his regular sidekick and chef/barman at the bar.
'Nuff said! As usual Dan Ames expertly crafts whole scenarios, characters and outcomes into a satisfying whole, while other authors might struggle, (or fail) to achieve a similarly great story in what might be considered no more than a longish, chapter. The PI, known as the "garbage collector" for some of the unsavory type of jobs he handles is in Florida . Working a house security gig to extend his stay in the sunshine state. Apparently some Albanian gangsters from his hometown of Detroit have left him a parting gift in the mangroves near the house he's residing at. A friend of his. Payback. Now it's the garbage collector time to return the favor.
The Garbage Collector is a bounty hunter, housesitting and enjoying the peace of evocative countryside. When he finds a dead body, his peace and quiet are shattered. So is the reader’s peace and quiet. The writing is clear and spare, the story told in a sharp but natural voice, and the novella is a fast, page-turning tale. There’s violence, evil, humor and excitement. And heart. It’s short, neat, sharp and an enjoyable read.

The lead character (has no name) finds a woman's body floating in the river near the house that he is house-sitting. He realises that he knew the woman and so he sets outs to find the killer.
It's short and so it doesn't matter that he has no name.
Cold action based on hot emotion of being betrayed and set up. This is one short story that packs a lot more than a punch. I liked the violence, glad to see justice done to scum.
Garbage Maker more than Garbage Collector I would say! Don’t mess with him, whatever his name is, OR with people he befriends. I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
Quick read more like Dexter then a private eye . Done is first person . The main character is not really a nice guy . Prefer his Roucke Character then this guy 2-1/2 starts
Modern take on old time noir tough guy seeking to settle a score. Lazing on a boat, the man known only as the "garbage collector" finds the body of a woman from his past floating in the water. Super short with that minimum of words like the dime novels.
