A quick read, and a great introduction to the BattleTech/MechWarrior universe, Trial Under Fire is basically a novelization of the MechWarrior 3 PC game. As such, it doesn't go into the deeper philosophies and character development that many of the BattleTech novels do, focusing more on the mission to mission action of the video game. This is not to say it's shallow, just simple. A fun ride, especially for any fan of mech porn.
This book has a lot of action and it moves at a good pace. However the quick pace forces the writer to bend some rules in regards to repair times and weapon loadouts, but since it's based off MechWarrior 3 I was able to let it slide. My main issue came from the characters not really having any real arcs to speak of. It is one of the weaker Battletech books.
This is the novelization of the game "Mechwarrior 3". It was a lot of fun to read about places I've been in the game, and the people in Damocles Commando. If you ever played the game or are just a Battletech/Mechwarrior fan, you WILL enjoy this book.
