曾任廣告導演，2003年以《山本掏耳店》獲得「小學館新人漫畫大賞」，之後正式在漫畫界出道，成為專職漫畫家。

《深夜食堂》在2006年開始連載，由於作品氣氛濃郁、風格特殊，三度改編日劇播映，由小林薰擔任男主角。隔年獲得「第55回小學館漫畫賞」及「第39回漫畫家協會賞大賞」

all-time favorite manga.
in a subtle wayy, every dish is always connected to the problems of the unique customers who stop by this kedai / angkringan :). There's a sense of comfort when reading to each customer's stories, from light topics to heavy ones. All the food ordered feels like it tells the story of what kind of problems these people are facing.

suka dengan cara penulisan author yang menyelesaikan setiap cerita dengan 1 chapter saja. Oiya feel membaca lebih mantap jika dibaca tengah malam seperti judulnya "Midnight diner".

其實在小一點的時候，就聽過這本書了，那時以為是深夜怪談那一類的。

後來在看過連續劇之前，好像也陸續經過書店櫃子幾次。有點像是「沒什麼注意，但一直都在」那樣的存在。

然後看了韓劇，但總是覺得那個價錢可以買文字書了，總覺得漫畫cp值不高。

也不記得是怎麼改變想法的，不久前才真正掏錢買了第一本。和想像中一樣，大概半個小時就看完了，但挺意外的，還會翻第二、第三次。這個就是漫畫的力量啊！

我覺得每次看完心裡都暖暖的，好像自己也在那裏坐了一夜（雖然心裡念念叨叨的都是半夜吃飯真的不好啊還吃那麼澎湃），但其實重要的不是食物，而是怎樣從生活裡的小點滴，都能品嚐出一些什麼，然後「吃」也的確是最貼近每個人生活的事情，所以才能打動那麼多人吧。

不過這個價錢的漫畫書真的是奢侈品，我只能慢慢集了啊。

No puedo ser imparcial con este manga. Me da abracito, me relaja, me hace sonreír y me hace reflexionar. Y pese a no tener furigana y a tener que buscar bastantes kanji en el diccionario, como cada historia es cortita, no se hace pesado leerlo. Es simplemente genial.
