This time i mainly noticed two things.... first the changes in the background of Clifford Monterny. Compared to the original timeline this special enemy gets far more focus and a far more tragic background story, instead of a greedy mobster and delusional "imperator of New York" he's an almost tragic figure, formed in the chaos of the twenty first century and not really the one guiding his fate into the situation we had already glimpsed into from other people (e.g. Sid's) perspective, which is always a good thing in characterization, giving even the most foul individuals a more than one-dimensional personality and so on.
But the second thing is far more disturbing and it's as good as all the other peoples and scenes in this book that fall into this second observation: Perry Rhodan Neo clearly is a dystopian future. Almost everything went down the gutter since Rhodan started to the moon in volume 1 and that's a not so happy change from the original series as written in the 60es!
But at the moment i won't loose hope for the next stories, as there is a whole cartload full of open threads that every moment could be brought back into the series and could turn this rather disturbing trend in a moments notice! Thora is still out there, the base on Europa or whatever Jupiter/Saturn moon that was still exists as most likely will the base on Venus once Thora's story continues, Adams and Mercant still have unknown ressources, Monterny seems to have lost his clout with the DHS and might change his views towards loyalty and the USA being deserving of such. Heck, even the public opinion in America might turn against President Drummond...
I dearly hope they will give up this near-apocalyptic view of the world for a more realistic grey not all good not all bad stance with the tendency that Rhodan as aggregator can inspire the people to strive more for the good than the bad, so NEO will win back the original Rhodan spirit and bring it over into the new millenium. Everybody and his dog could write "we will all die" dytopian fiction, the true visions take more talent and dedication!

Absolutes Füller-Material. Irreführender Titel, denn so richtig erfährt man ja eh nix über die Titel. Man könnte diesen Roman auch als Versuch bezeichnen, Clifford Monterny menschlich erscheinen zu lassen. Okay, er ist also nicht der Oberfiesling, als der er so erscheint, aber verstehen tue ich ihn als Charakter trotzdem nicht. Warum ist der denn Homeland Security so ergeben? Irgendwie macht das alles keinen rechten Sinn.
Den Roman hätten sie sich größtenteils schenken können. Langweilig war's nicht, aber definitiv nicht die Handlung voranpeitschend, und dass wird hier langsam bitter nötig.

Wie der vorangegangene Teil der Serie konzentriert sich auch dieser auf die Geschehnisse um die Mutanten. Damit wird diesem Handlungsstrang meiner Meinung nach zu viel Gewicht gegeben. Natürlich sind die Abenteuer der Mutanten auch ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Originalserie, aber die hier erzählte Vorgeschichte ist nicht sehr gelungen. Das ist vermutlich nicht dem Autor anzulasten, da er Vorgaben umzusetzen hat; sein Schreibstil ist gewohnt gut.

Sort of interesting. Sadly, only the last two chapters did anything to move the main story forward. But being a Perry Rhodan Addict, I'm still waiting for the time when humans will be able to travel to the stars :-)
