'Invasion U.S.A.: Border War" is the second book of, so far, a two book series. This second book is far superior to the first, that is also very good. This one is far better written with a much more involved plot.

Whereas teh first was chock full of gun play and explosions, this one is handled very differently. There's more setup to explain the gun play and explosions. With the more involved plot there are more involved characters. Something the Johnstone Clan excels at is characterization. That occurs here even better than the first book.

This one does have less tension with the first. i was literally on teh edge of my seat with the first. This one I had to read much more carefully as the plot unfolded in more intricate and well written detail.

Wondered about giving it five stars, but the writing isn't up to the par of a Faulkner or Slaughter.

Bottom line: i recommend this book.

A Mexican drug overlord and his army of thugs cross the border into Texas and kidnap his daughter and 40 of her schoolmates. Tom Brannon and a homegrown patriotic army go into Mexico to get the girls back against the wishes of the FBI and the US government. Pretty meh for the most part. 2 1/2*

Maybe 25 years ago this would have been awesome. since then I have grown up a little but Johnstone still writes the same. I need to stop falling for stuff like this.

Making it happen

William Johnstone is a prolific writer of fiction. As a fiction writer he is very entertaining, I find myself chuckling at the things some of his characters do, and cheering others. This is not classic fiction, it’s the kind of trashy pulp fiction that many of us secretly read because it’s so entertaining. I’ve read about half of his books and I’m happy that I have.

This is part of a book series – should you read them in order? YES, no question that reading them in order will help keep the back and side stories in sync.

Triggers: Lots of violence in these stories, it’s about gangs invading the USA. Weapons, firefights and terroristic acts in your local grocery store and bank, and school.

The niece of our common man gets kidnapped along with many of her classmates and taken to Mexico. When the federal and state authorities drag their feet Tom Brannon gets organized and takes action.

When a group of high school girls are kidnapped and taken across the border and it becomes evident that ransom is not the motive, what can be done? US authority to investigate and retrieve the kids ends at the Texas/Mexico border. The Mexican authorities are not willing to investigate the possible cartel involvement. It is up to a group of fathers and dedicated veterans who believe that sometimes you just have to do the right thing to try to bring the girls home.

I really liked it and was sucked into the intense story of a bus of kidnapped students on the Mexico border and the family members who tire of 2 countries respecting borders while the girls are in danger. They create their own wild plan. I know Johnstone has written many westerns, I was surprised at this title and am very glad I picked it up.

This book, though it is fiction, is about life on the border right now.

Good reading here. It's a fiction book but the story of drug smuggling and human trafficking is all to real.
