Summoning a demon in my bedroom hadn't been one of my finer ideas...
In my defense, I hadn't expected it to actually work. But it had. And now I had an 8ft tall obsidian demon with red eyes and chopped off horns sitting on my bed who apparently hadn't heard the word 'shower' before.
Striking a deal with the demon named Azazel, I promised to show him the wonders of the human world—ha! What a joke—in return for one year of his servitude.
I'd been living the life of an outcast loner for a while now, and I thought Azazel would be just another complication, but he might turn out to be the best thing that happened to me.
Pity he's only mine for a year.
Summoning Chaos is a 33k words dual POV MM paranormal romance novella featuring a bored and lonely college student and the demon he accidentally summons. It includes a sassy, bespectacled human, a demon who loves food, a hellhound who is co-parented by a whole realm full of demons and absolutely loves it, some tooth-rotting fluff, and spicy hot smutty times.
While connected to Stella Rainbow's Otherworld realm books, this novella can be read as a standalone.
note from the author's 7/15/2023 newsletter: "...a revamped, slightly extended version of Elijah Summons a Demon. It's now called Summoning Chaos..."
Stella Rainbow is the pen name of a twenty something woman from India. Her heart is too full of rainbow colored stories to be limited by the lack of awareness in her home country.
Stella spends her days cuddling up with her cat, typing out new stories, daydreaming and reading all the books she can get her hands on.
She loves talking to her readers and other book lovers, so don't hesitate in contacting her on any of her socials or emailing her at authorstellarainbow@gmail.com
Town outcast Elijah decides to summon a demon out of sheer boredom and loneliness. He strikes a deal with Azazel, promising to show him how fun the human realm can be, not realizing that both of their lives are about to be changed forever.
Elijah and Azazel are adorable, and their story is super cute & fluffy!
«—Te amo. Te amo más de lo que nunca he amado a nadie ni a nada. No me importaría que mañana perdieras toda tu magia, te seguiría amando. No quiero un humano. No quiero tu magia. Todo lo que quiero eres tú.» ❤️
Summoning Chaos is a really sweet and spicy story between a demon and a human. Elijah and Az make a really cute and sweet couple. The book was well written and overall a very enjoyable story. I really liked Hella as well. I read the book in 1 sitting and would recommend the book to any Stella Rainbow fans.
If this had been my first human/demon book, I might have enjoyed it more. It was cute and very tame. The one ‘steamy’ scene that I can recall was only slightly detailed and seemed almost glossed over. Which, honestly would not have been a big deal but, I kind of felt like it was thrown in because it’s almost expected. I think the book might have been better without it.
Elijah tries to summon a demon even though he doesn’t think it will work because he is bored. When Azazel appears, Elijah is shocked and makes him a deal, be his slave for a year and Elijah will show him the wonders of the human world. Azazel agrees and Elijah has a new friend.
The story basically revolves around Az and Elijah falling in love while dating. Nothing too detailed and nothing too exciting. I suppose I was just expecting… more.
This was such a cute, feel good book. Both Az and Elijah needed some extra love and care and they both gave it to each other! I love the world that Stella has built, and cannot wait for the next one!
A cute story about a bored lonely college student who summons a demon. Ooops. Azazel is prepared for a typical greedy human, but he gets Elijah who just wants to let Az have a great time on earth and hang out and be friends. There is a background to why Elijah is shunned and bullied at university and Az becomes his protector. So it's sweet but there is some overarching story from where the demons live and Otherworld that if you haven't read any of the author's other stories you will be a bit lost. I have read a lot of them and I was still unsure what was happening exactly but the relationship between Elijah and Azazel was very sweet and adorable.
4.5/5 This is just the sort of sweet paranormal fun that I’ve come to expect from Stella Rainbow. Both Elijah and Azazel are awesome, engaging characters who need more than they’re getting out of life before one another. I appreciated how the power dynamic between them was directly addressed, and I loved how respectful Elijah was of Az’s preferences. I think Az is on the Ace spectrum while Elijah identifies as allosexual, but I never worried that Elijah would mistreat Az or make him feel like something was wrong with him. It was a great relationship dynamic.
This was a quick read that mostly concentrated just on the two of them, but Fressia was a fun side character. I enjoyed all the different displays of Az’s powers—and the fact that they often used that awe-inspiring magic to eat food and watch tv, lol. It was nice to have some time skips so that we could see the relationship develop and especially give Az time to connect with Elijah. Nothing felt rushed to me. Loved the resolution at the end, and I’m so glad these two got their HEA.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
I enjoyed this book. It has all the sweetness that I’ve come to expect from one of Stella Rainbow’s stories. It was loosely connected to Lords of the Otherworld Series, Otherworld and Afterworld were mentioned a few times and King Damien but this book can be read as a standalone. Elijah, a bored and lonely college student decides to summon a demon in his bedroom to see if it would work, he honestly thought it wouldn’t. He ended up summoning an 8ft tall obsidian demon with red eyes called Azazel. Elijah decides to strike up a deal with Azazel for him to be bound to him for a year and in exchange he’ll show him the wonders of the human world. Azazel was a total sweetheart. Elijah and Azazel were great together and this book is about the two of them spending time together and slowly falling in love. I’m really looking forward to reading more books from Stella in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
Really, really excited that we got a look at the demons. I'm seriously hoping we get a lovely poly book with the 3 demons living with the human that was briefly mentioned. I thought these two were adorable. Their relationship development was super sweet. Both Az and Eli's pasts were explained but skimmed over pretty lightly, which I didn't mind as it gave enough context for their feelings/insecurities/choices but didn't make the book feel too heavy or serious.
It's definitely easier to understand the world-building/names of realms etc. if you've read the other Mistvale/Otherworld (mostly Otherworld) books but it's not necessary and if you like this one, I highly recommend the other two series because they're fabulous!!
3.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐✨.
This was a quick, sweet story set in the same world as Stella's Otherworld and Mistvale. Having read most of Stella's books I wasn't confused or surprised by any of the side plots, which kind of made this story seem boring at times. If this is my first dip into this world I think I would've enjoyed this story more. Azalea and Elijah were adorable together, I just wish we could've seen their relationship develop more. A year goes by in the blink of a 120ish pages. It was all sugar and very little heat. Not a bad thing especially after reading a long series of smutty escapades and/or angsty suffering. I received an ARC copy of the book for a review.
A short and sweet PNR that I have come to expect from Stella. This sets up another offshoot from the Mistvale/Otherworld Universe. This is sort of a stand alone story, but there are some references to the events from those series. Azazel is the marshmallowest marshmallow that ever marshmallowed, and Elijah is the kindest human he has ever met, even though Eli harbors a dark secret from his past. HEA guaranteed - or is it?
I love original stories like this. This was the perfect short sweet read for me while I'm nursing my jetlag. I needed something low-angst and romantic and I got it. Az is just the sweetest creature, poor guy was so scared to fall for Eli even tho he didn't stand a chance. Kudos to Eli for never making Az do anything he didn't want to do (apart from showering lmao) despite having control over him. Wish all relationships, paranormal or not, were like that!
2.75 ⭐ Very bizarre. The tone of the story is mostly innocent & cute then a bomb drops on you at chapter 10 (daddy dearest is the worst monster possible) but nothing is told next to tie that loose ends. We are talking demons and hells, surely he had a punishment coming and we could be told even if without the gruesome details? Very low steam. I actually struggled for the tag between demisexual or asexual because almost nothing happened.

Honestly, that book is just a super cute and funny slice of life with a fluffy and healthy romance between a demon and a human!
That's it, nothing more to say. It was great and I loved it! Loved Azazel, loved Elijah, loved the snake lady and I can't wait to find out more about the plot unravelling in the background.
Alexa, how do you get a demon to remove his posterior from your bed without angering him?
I absolutely loved this story. There are brief mentions of the Otherworld from the authors other series but this can be read as a complete standalone. This was so good and so sweet. I just loved these two and I was so happy to see them get their HEA. This is a wonderful story.
What a lovely sweet read I read it in one go and was amazing. Elijah is a loner and whom just wants company with that he decides to summon a demon and meets Azazel whom has a history too that makes him wary of humans, expecting to be asked to do bad things he’s confused by Elijah and his need for company. Loved this story
5 stars… My oh my this was fun! This is fluffier and less spicy than I was originally anticipating but it was good. I didn’t care much for the lore and the demons friend so much and Elijah’s back story was WILD! Oh my god I thought he was going to be trans or something not have a crazy father.
2/5 on spice. 3/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. Crazy cocks are always fun!
It was a sweet read. But there wasn't really any plot, no real depth, and there is mention of dimensions, supernaturals and events like the reader already knows about those. I assume this story takes place in the same world as some series by Stella Rainbow, but I haven't read them and felt a bit annoyed. Still, I enjoyed reading this simple and sweet story.
A joy to read this PNR romance! Az & Elijah were funny, sweet, and cute together. This was a great way to introduce the main series (which I'd started, read book one before this one & didn't realize I goofed.) I adore all the unique & interesting aspects (beings, features, abilities) and look forward to more from this universe.
3.5 rounded up, because Azazel was such a lovable marshmellow. Fun, quick and entertaining read. Nothing too deep and could have used a bit more world building. The whole truth about Elijah’s father was inappropriately dark for this type of story. The writing was mostly ok. The story flowed well with just a few odd mistakes and inconsistencies.
Elijah and his demon Azazel After accidentally on purpose summoning Az, Elijah has to show Az the modern world and take him to his college classes. A little magic here and there keeps their secret while they fall in love. Two shy yet feisty people who were meant to be.
This was a surprisingly sweet and fluffy book. A good, short read. Cute, cotton candy fluff, no angst. Just a couple of guys falling in love. Really good read! Super refreshing after some of the things I usually read.
I really liked this one! Fluffy slowburn demon x human with some hurt/comfort and lots of cuteness.
It focused more on the romance and feelings between Azazel and Elijah than it did on the spice, though there was spice, and I was definitely in the mood for something like this novella.
Simple, cute, and fun. I enjoyed both Elijah and Azazel, both were cute. The other realms were interesting, though we didn’t get too much information on them. Short and sweet overall, fun and enjoyable. I read it within a few hours
No chaos just lots of sweetness. I loved this just as much as when I was reading weekly chapters and yes I read it all again. Recommended and loved by me.
