Alligators & Others All Year Long: A Book of Months has been a part of my classroom library for years. I loved using it to help preschool children learn about the months of a year and most years I would read it on the first day of each month. Then the children could draw a picture about the poem in the book for that month. At the end of the year we would put the pictures in a book for each child to take home. They loved taking home a book that they had made themselves.
This book exposed the preschool children to the names of all the months. We repeated regularlly to reinforce learning the new vocabulary with a few events during the year. Each child also had their own book about the months with each month's name printed on the page where they could draw a picture about that month. We would talk about Valentine's Day for Febuary, St. Patrick's DAy for March, etc. to give them ideas.
The book has nice rhymes about each month with appropriate events mentioned and fun animals to add to the themr. The illustrations are bright, fun and beautiful too.
