The Time Of Our Lives

Rate this book
A young runaway finds happiness, romance and drama at Jolly's Holiday Camp.

Set in a holiday camp in the late 1950s, Lynda Page's saga, The Time of Our Lives, is full of hilarious anecdotes and heart-warming adventures amongst the holidaymakers and staff. Sure to appeal to fans of Kate Thompson and Elaine Everest.

When Rhonda Fleming runs away from home, the last place she expects to end up is at a Jolly's Holiday Camp. But a chance encounter with a chalet maid at the train station leads Rhonnie to Mablethorpe on a cold winter's day and her life changes for ever.

Thrown in at the deep end working for the boss's wife, Rhonnie discovers there's never a dull moment at Jolly's - particularly with staff like Dan around. From the beauty contest by the pool to jiving in the Paradise dance hall, and from the rollercoaster at the fair to sitting on a moonlit beach, the holidaymakers are guaranteed to have the time of their lives. But when the boss's son reappears, nothing can prepare Rhonnie for what lies ahead...

The time of our lives

This is one of 4 books, it’s a series of a bunch of people running a holiday camp. If your anything like me I love Butlins and this makes me think of the comings and goings of life there and what the staff get up to.
I have brought the other 3 books which I am looking forward enough to read.
These are my normal type of books I like to read normally it’s foster novels or autobiography’s. So it’s been nice to read a different kind of book
I do recommend this book, well worth a read if your after something different

This book was a strange one for me, I really enjoyed the storyline and I loved the characters but I just wasn’t hooked and invested. I really enjoyed the twists and turns in the storyline and a few little bits of the story I really didn’t expect but certain aspects of it were very predictable. I liked the writing style and I enjoyed how the characters were written as I felt you connected with each character. Overall, I loved the setting of Jolly’s and will be picking up the next book in the series but something was just missing from this and it took me a little while to get through.

Nice! The heroine was no ninny, and there were twists and turns in the plot. A quick read which will not leave you unhappy.

Good story. Had more depth than I expected, but also some humour as well. Looking forward to reading more in this series.

I really enjoyed this book set in a holiday camp in 1964. It brought back happy memories of going to holiday camps with my family when I was a child.

I actually picked up the second book in this series without realising it followed on so had to order this one so I could start from the beginning. As someone who has spent a great deal of my life on holiday parks I really liked this story, especially since it was set back in the 1960s. I finished it quickly and enjoyed the writing style. I found some bits predictable and could guess what was happening at times but still enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading the second one now

This is the 1st in a series of 4 (so far) featuring the lives and loves of the girls at Jollys Holiday Camp near Mablethorpe. It is full of characters and a light read, perfect for summer escapism remembering the good old days. Thoroughly recommend.
