Rei Tōma (Japanese: 藤間 麗,Tōma Rei) has been drawing since childhood, but she only began drawing manga because of her graduation project in design school. When she drew a short-story manga, "Help me dentist" (ヘルプ me デンティスト), it attracted a publisher's attention and she made her debut right away. Her magnificent art style became popular, and after she debuted as a manga artist, she became known as an illustrator for novels and video game character designs.
Dawn of the Arcana is her first long-running manga series, and it has been a hit in Japan, selling over a million copies.
Aww man…this was a really heavy volume. This series has been on the rough side with some topics, but I wasn’t expecting the emotion in this one. It truly speaks to the politically injustices of this world especially the relationship between humans and ajin. The scenes that focused on the snake ajin and Batal probably some do the most beautiful frames art wise but most heartbreaking in terms of the text and dialogue. Finally happy to see Nakaba express how she feels about Caesar. I know this further complicates her relationship with Loki (who feels a tad bit manipulative) but I’m rooting for Caesar and Nakaba to make it as a couple. Another great installment to the series!
I really wasn’t impressed by Prince Balat and his beheading of an Ajin he’s known since childhood - talk about abuse of power!! I’m incensed by the injustice of it all!!
Elsewhere - more sadness as through her use of the arcana, Nakaba must now choose who lives out of Prince Azhal and Prince Akhil! 😢
I’m really hoping the rest of the series isn’t going to be as depressing!
I know I give all of these five stars but this volume was exceptional. It was so emotional. We see Nakaba find out Loki's feelings (even though everyone - Ceasar included - already knew). But we also see it in direct relation to the terrible prince who is using his Ajin companion to wreak havoc which doesn't bode well for foreshadowing.
Honestly, after liking the previous volum I am once again bored, and uninvested in everything.
For two seconds I even considered DNFing the series here, but no, not so close to the end.
Anyhow - Nakaba bored me, Ceasar is not much in this volume, Loki if starting to be very off-putting and just nope. And i don't really care about what feels like an unimportans sideplot at this point.
Princess Nakaba of Senan and Prince Caesar of Belquat marry to seal a peace treaty between the 2 nations sharing the same island. Caesar is ready to hate Nakaba before he even really meets her simply because this is a political marriage and she has red hair instead of the royal black. Then he starts to get to know Nakaba and she totally changes his point of view. And he realizes maybe red hair is something special after all...
I don't always understand Nakaba and what the mangaka is trying to say about the relationship between Nakaba and Loki. She sure seems cut up about him when his motives seem really evident to me. This is definitely a factor of who Nakaba is though as a character.
Nakaba sees that the eldest prince leads the snake Ajin - Loki takes her to Caesar but doesn't want her to go out, she does anyway - some really beautiful frames... the art makes this series over every other detail!!
Batal's plan plays out here and Nakaba's ability is really no help. I love how we can see the other people's motives and feelings through scenes using the Arcana of Time.
BOTTOM LINE: Beautiful art makes the entire series.
This ended up being a really sad volume! More memories of Loki where Nakaba finally realizes he's in love with her; and her feeling guilty because she chooses Caesar. His mother is scheming back in Belquat which is where Caesar is headed. Back in Lithuania, the evil first-born Prince captures the bandit Ajin and it is revealed the bandits were all his idea anyway and that the snake-girl was actually in love with him the whole time and it was super sad when he kills her. Nakaba finally uses the Arcana and is faced with two choices. Either Akhil or his brother must die by their brother's hand and she's freaking out cause she doesn't want to make that choice. I'm not too big a fan of Akhil, he's using Nakaba and poor Rito's mother is the pawn to manipulate the gang...the plot in this volume was unexpected and sad and I hated the resolution of it. But the series is still decently paced and engaging.
The first thing about this book series is that is full of surprises you can never expect something because there is always something . "I love being the red headed princess that is who I am ". Even though people might be different the society or whom you love should accept you just like prince Ceaser did. Some interesting about books 1-9 is Ceaser fell in love with princess Nakaba no less that a week of being married. As well she fell for him too, but they were many obstacles to over come their relationship and her keeping secret her powers from the wold expect loki. The adjective i will use to describe up till now the story is Twisted because prince ceaser brother prince Cain was trying to get rid of ceaser because in his mind he took everything from him throne, love, family so in a fight cain was killed by loki but to save the princess life. This explains the hatred between the royal blood . Any person who is a romantic can read it like it. Hope you enjoy!

"Io adesso so cos'è l'amore. Ecco perché... mi dispiace. Io andrò a vedere Caesar"
Absolutely adored this book in the series, and finally the love triangle has been acknowledged. It was absolutely amazing, and the cliffhanger at the end was great. I'm definitely reading the next one immediately, I just had to iterate how great this one was before reading the next and discovering what happens next. It's such a good series, I'm completely enjoying this.
I am still enjoying this series. I know there are only 4 volumes left after this, and based on where we are in the story I am wondering where it is going and how it will end. That being said the plot and characters are still good. I like the contrast in background page color when Nakaba is using the Arcana of time.
All this volume accomplished was making me actually like the idea of Loki and Nakaba together, even though I know she only has eyes for Caesar. It's actually a bit grating.
And that cliffhanger felt abrupt to me. Something about the pacing for this series is always so off.
I've made it this far into the manga, I suppose I might as well continue it, just so I can say I gave it a fair shake.
I definitely prefer the intrigues of the court and Nakaba needing to make decisions to the mediocre male characters in this series. The men act in the most bizarre macho way most of the time and are completely useless as love interests. I look forward to seeing which prince Nakaba will choose.
Nakaba is able to see some of Loki's past and true feelings with the help of her power. She doesn't want to hurt him. He has been loyal and protected her. But you can see her heart belongs to Caesar.
And there is a Prince using his Ajin companion for chaos.
3.75 One of the better volumes so far. I really like the direction Nakaba's character and her 'arcana of time' is going in, and some hard-hitting emotions are arising. Not to mention, I can tell the art gradually gets better each volume; I love seeing the tangible effects of artistic progress.
We finally see a more true form of the Arcana of Time. A space filled with doors. We also learn for a second time that the price of saving a life is losing another life. I'm wondering how this applied to the town they saved from the bandits. The snakes being burnt meant less people dying?

This one was so good. I feel like a broken record saying that, but I really mean if this time 😭😂 Loki’s true feelings are revealed, the tragic story of the snake Ajin, Akhil and Azhal’s lives in the balance and Caesar and Nakaba parting ways... so much heartbreak and emotional toil here.
Oh okay… Loki definitely loves Nakaba in a romantic way. I wish it wasn’t that way though. It would be nice for Nakaba to have somewhat of a “family figure” in her life… And the truth about Prince Betal and the snake ajin girl was heartbreaking… Made me so damn angry…
Damn this shojo romance manga got pretty dark... My heart hurts for Nakaba. Such a heavy burden for such a naive/innocent young girl. I would break down if I were in her place too. I'd just run away.
