Rei Tōma (Japanese: 藤間 麗,Tōma Rei) has been drawing since childhood, but she only began drawing manga because of her graduation project in design school. When she drew a short-story manga, "Help me dentist" (ヘルプ me デンティスト), it attracted a publisher's attention and she made her debut right away. Her magnificent art style became popular, and after she debuted as a manga artist, she became known as an illustrator for novels and video game character designs.
Dawn of the Arcana is her first long-running manga series, and it has been a hit in Japan, selling over a million copies.
Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! So this is the volume where we explore the past of the king and to be honest it was quite sad. It makes sense why he moved the way he moved but he’s still a jackass. THAT ENDING THOUGH! Loki…what in the actual fuck! I’m so glad that I have the last volume available. I couldn’t imagine reading this when it was first getting published! I would have been anxious for each and every volume.
Princess Nakaba of Senan and Prince Caesar of Belquat marry to seal a peace treaty between the 2 nations sharing the same island. Caesar is ready to hate Nakaba before he even really meets her simply because this is a political marriage and she has red hair instead of the royal black. Then he starts to get to know Nakaba and she totally changes his point of view. And he realizes maybe red hair is something special after all...
This volume is all about Guran the king and Caesar's father. He had a run-in with the Arcana of Time in the past and hasn't gotten over it ever. This is the motivation for the entire war between the two countries!! The shocking bit comes at the end with Loki... you are as shocked and stunned as Nakaba and if I didn't have the last volume then I would have been a basket case waiting for it!
Since I knew we were winding down to the end I didn't really feel any tension in the story as we were being told WHY it was happening. Still there is a tragic nature to Guran's story that had you hoping that it wouldn't end the way you already knew it did.
The art in this series is so gorgeous and I highly recommend reading it just to fall in love with the medium and this mangka! She is so, so good and knows how to get emotion off a flat page!! She twists my heart up and GAH it is so powerful...
There is so much emotional authenticity in this story! You get that feeling, feeling deeply has forged the motivations and the methods of the people involved.
⋆⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity ⋆⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art
BOTTOM LINE: Can't wait for the last volume!!

One more volume? Seriously? I been gushing about this series since I first heard about it, well as a suggestion on GR. GR you're on fire with your suggestions. Thanks again! Anyway, I love this series. The couple, the characters well, the main ones are likable, believable, the art, the pace is good but has its moments with wait what? And oh come on, really? REALLY? Really good volume. Also Loki!
I really loved this one! The beginning of the end, it features Nakaba using the Arcana to look into the evil King Guran's past. And it was so sad when he fell for a blonde baker, Sara and even with the Arcana telling him she'd pass he was unable to save her. Hence his wish to wipe out Nakaba's village. Nakaba and Caesar are reunited to start a rebellion against the King's tyranny and Nakaba finally reveals her power to everyone...finally. The King falls and Caesar is announced to succeed the throne. The volume ends with Loki's request to take over Senan. Whaaaat? I haven't trusted Loki since volume 1, and the slow reveals of him withholding information and making selfish decisions about Nakaba haven't convinced me of his character yet. But Nakaba is fair and doesn't let her emotions cloud her judgement so we'll see what she decides in the final volume!
Now that Nakaba is the ruler of Senan. Caesar's father, King Guran, decides to break the peace treaty and sends Caesar to invade.
This volume gives a look at King Guran's background. He wasn't always so cruel, it seems. He asks someone with the power of Arcana of time what will happen to his wife and when he is given the answer he demands, he doesn't like it when it turns out to be true. It seems after that, he became very cruel. Killing the one who told him that his wife would pass soon and then invading that village....
It's nice to see Nakaba and Caesar working together and also that they still feel the same about each other.
This volume features a past journey to see more into Caesar's father's past. This part was sad but I don't particularly like seeing origin stories for the villain. I did enjoy the really big twist at the end of the volume and THANK GOD I had the next volume and didn't have to wait for it to release.
Way too much of this was focused on a trash king. Just because your wife fell ill, and died, that doesn't give you a right to become an awful father, and an even worse king.
I just didn't care about him in the slightest, and his backstory didn't add anything of note for me.
#12 volume surprised me with the King's flashbacks. It kind of really made me miss Caeser's brother, Cain. Nakaba is making her way back to Caeser, but her Arcana powers flare up at unusual times and are showing her unexpected visions. Overall, a great addition to this wonderful maga series.
What a plot twist at the end of this volume. I wonder what Loki has planned. This was a quick volume to read and I feel it was fairly fast paced, yet the pace was appropriate. It was a fun read and I am looking forward to reading the final volume.
What a cliffhanger, I have no idea what will happen in the next book. For a while I thought that it was just end in this book but it was suddenly pulled into a longer story, and now possible some unanswered questions could be answered. However, I simply don't want the story to end.
ANOTHER Loki bombshell of a volume! One more to go and I am definitely liking this a lot more than the first half of the series. It takes a while to fully get into the minds and characters, but once you are there it really doesn't let up!
This volume is fantastic BUT - there's so many alternate paths to follow in it, it's hard to keep up. I wanted to rate it higher, because it really is good, but I got so confused for most of it....
Holy crap?!?!?! Just when I think this series couldn't get any better it goes and completely blindside and shock me like that! I seriously did not see that twist coming! This Volume was so good!
Still so fast. So many reveals are made in this chapter that are done poorly and delivered in such an anticlimactic way. I’m convinced the creator was told to shorten the series ahead of time.
