== Good guidance for living positive productive lives ==

Edgar Cayce, the “sleeping prophet” was probably unique among psychics in the methodology of how he transmitted messages between the earth plain and the Superconscious realm. He was not in it for the fame nor did he have an agenda to reveal the ultimate capital T “Truth” to mankind. After his ability was accidentally discovered his focus was on being an agent for healing and a means of personality analysis. As he was engaged in “readings” for his contacts non-health related information such as past life experiences, prophecies, esoteric and metaphysical concepts also came through.

The output from many mediums is characterized by being like systematic treatise of (purported) divine advice and wisdom (e.g. Oahspe, Urantia Book, A Course in Miracles, Ramtha, Kryon, The Law of One, etc.). Other than the material Cayce produced for the “Search for God” study group, his readings were not produced in the kind of format that easily lent itself to publish point-by-point revelatory texts. This book is an example of how the thousands of Cayce readings can be dissected, culled and analyzed by authors to extract and systemize information useful for seekers.

There are twenty-four chapters, each entitled as a principle, such as “Live for a Purpose Greater than Yourself” and “Every Crisis is an Opportunity for a Breakthrough”. These are included in the book’s four parts: 1. Basic Principles for Creating Your Future, 2. New Ways of Looking at Your Life, 3. Free Will, Destiny and Relationships, and 4. Strategies for a New Life. At the end of each chapter is an exercise to give the reader practical homework to apply the principle that just was taught. However, if readers are to take the time called for to practice each principle, one after the other, this book will take many months to complete.

However, although this book is inspired by and based on the Edgar Cayce material, it relies heavily on the theories and advice of multiple other authors. I would even go so far as to suggest the title of the book is somewhat of a deception because so little of the contents is directly attributable to Cayce. Chapters are frequently interjected with anecdotes, vignettes and quotes about and from other people. After completing this book it would be difficult for the reader to recall what was learned that originated with Cayce and what came from other sources. I found the authors’ excessive reliance on substantiating their principles with such diverse sources—from mythology to modern psychology—to be somewhat annoying. At times I felt Cayce might have felt betrayed by some of the associations the authors made.

Overall, however, I think general readers who are seeking advice and guidance for living their lives well and improving their futures will find much useful information and practical wisdom in this book. The book was written over twenty years ago but that doesn't affect it effectiveness.

A good friend begged me to read Edgar Cayce. This book is one that helps explore your philosophies and connections in life. It's one I found referring to over time.

Cayce was an interesting person, a devout Christian with apparently an incredibly unique and wonderful gift of insight and positivism.

Presented simply and easy to read. Each chapter is a lesson and I love the exercise/homework at the end for meditation and practice throughout the week.
Book club read, we had so much to discuss we ended up having multiple sessions over this book. Great conversations.
