Decent stage adaptation of the classic Turn of the Screw story. It's very stagy, to read, and I suspect perform, so it would take a powerhouse actress like Deborah Kerr, as well as talented child actors to pull it off. Of course, the whole hook of Turn of the Screw is the are the ghosts real or is she nuts question. I'm not sure that comes off as as much of a question in this play, which is to the detriment of the story-I'd have to see it performed to be sure, but it seems to me fairly obvious that the ghosts do exist and the children are cognizant of the fact.

It's creepy AF though, and gets away with a shocking amount of saying-it-but-not-quite-really-saying-it for the age of the play. In the end, a worthy adaptation of a classic story.

Read this for my Lit Scholarship class. It is a play version of The Turn of the Screw.Quick read. I think I like it better than the novel. As a play written decades later, I think it is more accesible to modern readers. It also is wayyyyy less wordy and I think the character of Miles is more interesting here. That being said, I dont have much literary experience with plays. Although I did really like Archibald MacLeish's J.B.
