Mitz is a story about two people who find themselves living in a small, southern town, where life is as predictable as the days which are hot and muggy.
When Alex, a bachelor in his fifties, enters into a relationship with the younger, attractive Mitzy, he finds himself at odds with what he used to be and what she wants him to be.
Tired of life and trying to hide his associations from prying neighbors, Alex wants nothing more than to simply be left alone with his whiskey and jazz, but his reputation as a shady promoter from Denver has him constantly rethinking his friendships.
Wanting to please and wanting peace, Alex is forced to make a decision that, like all his previous, will lead him into an uncertain future.
Existential in tone with rye humor, Mitz is a story that will give the reader an intimate glimpse into the life of a man who has not only been enriched by his actions but also impoverished by the outcomes.
Brooks Kohler grew up and lives in Southern Illinois. He writes mainly short stories but has, in the past, written longer works. His work is in both print and online publications.
He is a member of Phi Alpha Theta in the Field of History. He holds an M.A. in History and a B.A. in Philosophy from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO.
From 2005 to 2007, Brooks worked for Amylase Entertainment in Nashville, TN. Returning to Illinois in 2008, he sold advertising for Reppert Publications before joining Shawnee Community College in Ullin, IL, as an adjunct instructor of liberal arts.
In 2013, Brooks created Laptiast .com, a website in which he beta read for authors. In November 2020, Brooks closed Laptiast to focus on teaching and writing but reopened it in 2022. The new reopening didn't last long, and in 2024 Brooks decided to close Laptiast permanently.
I really enjoyed listening to Brooks read his audio book, I like it when the author of the book is the one who reads their own book. They know just where to make their point. The story is about two neighbours who enjoy each others company, one is a little bit older and one a little younger. They enjoy the evening walks they take when it is a little cooler out side. The long talks they have, and a game of Bingogodda on some Friday nights. It is more about their friendship and about the past. Which each of us has a past. You will also get a chance to hear Brooks play and sing a song, he is a Great Musician as well as a Author. He don't play out very much any more if at all. If he has not took his song off his Audio book, he writes his own music as well. But he is just going to focus on his writing from now on, I hope you will enjoy his audio book as much as I have.
