Four stars, mainly because of the bonus scenes. Senpai as Cinderella was quite a treat, as was the reunion between Morinaga's brother and his former best friend. Served him right, lol. #RapeModeEngaged #ImOnTheHighwayToHell #TwistedNEnjoyingIt #SorryNotsorry
So happy I started reading this series! There's a lot of effed up stuff, but all the fluffy cuteness makes up for it. And it's not like the awful and/or scary stuff isn't interesting...
Sempai goes to Canada for 2 months, and in the meantime, both of them misses each other terribly: Mori keeps writing email to Sempai, while Sempai cannot admit he misses Morinaga. After one month, Morinaga flies to Canada to visit him, and Sempai cannot hide his feelings -and the things Morinaga does to his body-. Awww so sweet how Sempai fights against those feelings but even so, he surrenders everytime. Probably my favorite BL manga.
Oh, and the extra 2 chapters... AWFUL. Not recommended at all, I drop it after the first couple of pages.
For the main plot, would've given it 4 stars, but the extras were so cute, I just had to give it an extra star! I love how Kunihiro (the brother) and Masaki (his best friend) make up. (: And of course, the gay version of Cinderella. xP
Takanaga Hinako has always been a hit or miss author for me; she's got a few really nice works but others are either too heavy on the comedy or graphic side. The Tyrant Falls in Love lands somewhere in between which makes it a really difficult one for me to rate. I love the characters, it's got just the right amount of humour and a nice enough story. But at the same time, there are a lot of problematic themes and a lot of the story is just contrived and dragged for the sake of adding more sexual scenes.
It's been a long time since I last read it and I remember struggling with it back then already. No matter how you twist and turn it, the story starts off with one of the main characters raping the other. Never mind that he says sorry and the other eventually accepts the apology, I just found it difficult to go along with the story knowing how it started. That being said, I do actually really like the characters, not just the main ones but also all the side cast - my favourite is probably Isogai, the seemingly only straight male character in the whole series who's just hilarious.
The story in itself is also not bad, it does raise some interesting subjects. The main issue, apart from the fact that it starts off with rape, is that I feel the story should have been wrapped up several volumes ago already. There have been several points in the story of character development where one could have drawn the line, but not only are new chapters released at a very slow pace, it mostly just feels like it is drawn out for the sake of drawing more smut. The character development keeps spiralling backwards just for the main characters to be confronted with the exact same issues. It's great that they always talk things out, but they always find themselves back at the same problem.
I really like Takanaga's art, though, but that too isn't enough to keep me reading. For a series of which I had conflicted feelings from the start, I just don't see myself waiting around for yet another volume and hoping it's the last. I've read up to 12 volumes and feel that it is time to drop this one.
Morinaga/senpai main story: 3.5 stars. Morinaga's still the emotional abuser, senpai's still being abused, the usual. Senpai's inner conflict was well-written. On the other hand, senpai's homophobia being the source of comedy doesn't sit quite right with me.
Masaki/Kunihiro side story: ...5 stars? I'm almost ashamed for liking it this much. It's such a mess! The power dymanics are similar to Morinaga/senpai relationship, but the tension somehow feels more genuine (maybe because it's short and doesn't drag?)
That bonus story gave a plus of toxicity to this manga. That was really fucked up but I admit that when Masaki opened up about Morinaga, I felt the pain. Still, really fucked up to basically romanticise rape
So after 3 years of hearing about this manga, and never really reading it. I decided to. this is what I would read on my mom's phone when my brother had my laptop, and I was unable to read Shatter Me
Just finished this manga. Well It says on going so I hope it is. I really enjoyed it. (MATURE YAOI CONTENT FOR SURE) 18+ recommended. Even though I'm 16. I'm very mature.
I don't really read/watch any yaoi anime or manga, not that I have anything against it, just I like action, adventure genres more. I've just heard about this anime/manga for almost 3 years, and just got to it 3 days ago..and I'm done xD
Having pretty much to whole plot of the manga spit out into one of the books, was a bit surprising to me. But the writer did a splendid job on it. The dislodge was great as well as the illustrations.
I found Morinaga a bit annoying, and pushy, and needy, and ...well a lot of stuff. He did have flaws, but even in the manga world people need something wrong with them. Right? Not to pick on both main characters, I found Souichi a bit stubborn, but I fully respect his stubbornness. I mean how would want somebody clinging on to you almost every time you see them, only really wanting sex. I noticed more character development with Morinaga, most then souichi. You got to see some of morinaga's back story, and why his family is somewhat against him being gay but in the end i still loved it. Hinako Takanaga(author/illustrator) did a amazing job with this manga. I love how in the beginning Souichi was totally against gays, because his brother went off th America with his boyfriend, and soon to be husband. And by the end you could tell he also loves Morinaga. NO DENING ITT SOICHIII!!! please excuse my fangirl moment!
Having watched, and red very few Yaoi/Yuri anime/mangas I say this is the best manga in that genre. Best anime: Gravitation. but I still enjoys other genres other them romance, but honestly there is at least a little romance in almost every YA book.
These volume's were interstingly entertaining. How does a writer get around to getting two characters’ together when one is gay and the other hates and fears gays? Takanaga did it with alcohol and drugs, an old trick in the book, but in this scenario, Tatsumi is anything but okay with it. It was more rape than anything. Tatsumi flips out, obviously, and Morinaga disappears in guilt. I won’t spell out the story but Morinaga comes back, the two fight and then reach a compromise. What I liked about the story was watching Tatsumi and knowing that he's in huge self denial. He wouldn't have agreed to sleep with Morinaga if there wasn't a small part of him that enjoyed it in my opinion. Now he only needs to come to that conclusion himself. Morinaga is willing to be a villain to get what he wants; I'm not sure what to make of him. He's very manipulative but at the same time he has a sort of innocence to him as well. X-rated, and only for those over 18, but otherwise, enjoy. Overall I enjoyed reading these volumes and will most likely continue on with the series.
It’s always one step forward and three steps backwards as Morinaga tries to negotiate around his boyfriend’s prickly exterior. Deliberately misread signs, spurned advances and enforced retreats—to another country!—put terrible strains on their relationship.
But the cracks in Tatsumi’s harsh façade grow wider as he finally acknowledges how much he craves Morinaga’s touch. It’s a truly touching admission and leaves this reader hopeful that there will be more of this warmth in future novels.
The addition of a story that centers around rape hits a sour note. It is almost like a return to the very first volume in this series, only there is little or no affection on either part of the men involved. One is just a confused closeted male and the other a man bent on getting revenge. Even the hint that the story might be pursued in future volumes wasn’t enough to endear me to this story.
I think that's it for me with this volume. I'm dropping the series. Volume 4 was a big step forward but volume 5 meant a return to the status quo again, all the progress in the previous volume was basically forgotten. I'm getting tired of their shenanigans, of the dub-con and the violence. And even though the story of Junya and Kunihiro seemed interesting at first, it turned out to be yet another non-con story... I'm disappointed.
It's a painfully slow advance with one foot in the past, but it's advance all the same. Tatsumi says no no no, but we ALL know that when he actually means it, he's more than capable of enforcing it.
Which is why, when Morinaga presses ahead in spite of apparent protest, I can look past the fake dub-con. Tatsumi's just a confused little whirlpool of new experiences. He can't admit his feelings to himself, much less Morinaga.
I love every book in this series. Morinaga and Tatsumi become closer as a stalker starts to go too far causing many incidents to escalate into possible tragedy for Morinaga and Tatsumi and his family. This is always a good read with satisfying yaoi scenes. Hinako Takanaga is a great storyteller and artist.
Too silly and violent for me. Most of sex is rape or painful (and I hate rape and pain in ralationships), all guys there are gays or closettet gays (younger brother of one hero, older brother of second hero)... And I do´t like look and behaviour of main "uke". Not my cup of tea.
Senpai and Morinaga's relationship is finally able to develop. And this manga includes a side story between Morinaga Kunihiro (Morinaga Tetsuhiro's older brother), and his former best friend Masaki. That story is left at a bit of a cliff hanger, and I'm hoping for more.
An adorable story! Really peculiar. The characters are relatable and different. And I love their personality developement throughout the series! And the story arcs are captivating. It isn't perfect - it's probably a 4.5 rather than a 5 but honestly, it's one of my favorites so I'm biased!
The most memorable part in this volume is that Senpai is starting to think of his shared apartment with Morinaga as "home" a place he can go back and feel comfortable in~ 😊💗💗
