Three Weddings and a Giggle

Rate this book
Laughter ahead! Liz Curtis Higgs delivers again with "Fine Print," where a businessman and the speech coach he's hired have no idea there are matchmakers at work on their behalf! Her novella is part of a delightful triple-header in Three Weddings and a Giggle. The "giggle" comes from Carolyn Zane, whose "Sweet Chariot" drops readers in on two little old ladies who purchase a motor home sight-unseen, then drag their adult grandchildren along for cross-country antics. In Karen Ball's "Bride on the Run," an heiress defies her father's demand that she marry a man she doesn't love. If only she hadn't waited until her wedding day to do so! So it's out the window, down the rose trellis ... and headlong into one escapade after another. Thoroughly fun!

These three stories are worth a hoot. In "Fine Print" Meghan is hired to help Hugh overcome his stage fright only to discover that his father had set them up. In "Sweet Chariot" Lexie and Jake go on wild trip with their adventurous grandmothers in an attempt to save them from disaster. They discover that they actually had more in common than they first thought. Alex in, "Bride on the Run" wants to follow God's leading in finding a future husband but her father has other ideas. An hour before her wedding she runs away and ends up in the home of Evan who takes in those who need a new start in life. It turns out that is exactly where Alex needs to be. These are heartwarming stories of romance and laughter.

3 novels in 1 books.

Fine Print by Liz Curtis Higgs - Four Stars
"This short story was very well put together and I felt like Mrs. Higgs is making amazing strides in her fiction novels. In person she is absolutely fascinating and her personality is found within each of her works, I thoroughly love how she let's the light of the Lord shine through her unto others.

Sweet Chariot by Carolyn Zane - Five Stars
"This tale was so far-fetched, that I could not help but to laugh all the way through it. Ironically so, I was reading this novel while my husband and I was traveling with his grandmother, and every time the older women would decide on another crazy adventure I would ask G-Maw if it was something that she could see herself doing in a few years."

Bride on the Bride by Karen Ball - Five Stars
"An amazing novella about a woman and man fully trusting in God and His timing. We don't have to have all of the answers all of the time, and we do not have to be perfect at everything that we try our hand at. This story reminded me of that, and I am appreciative of the reminder."

What a delightful, funny collection of stories about couples getting married. 3 completely separate stories each with the individual flair of the authors and a little about the authors themselves. Keep smiling all the way through the book but also keep a Kleenex close because there are also good tears to be shed.

There isn't much wrong with this book - but there isn't much right either. These are three romance novellas pure and simple. And they have all the emotional young men, true love discovered in two days, and God speaking in your heart when you see a pretty to face to prove it. Sweet stories - but there is a good reason why I don't read romances on principal.

I'm still reading but here's some initial thoughts
Fine Print - Mary Sue child is annoying rather than charming and act several years younger than the age she's supposed to be.

This is a book with three novellas. Each novella is followed by a recipe and then the first two chapters have some quotes/jokes about weddings or being married.

The first novella is entitled "Fine Print". A speech coach and the heir apparent to a printing company - not too many complications. There are just enough complications to make it questionable that they will get together, but it ends with the first wedding of the book!

Second novella: "Sweet Chariot"
Jake's grandmother and Lexie grandmother are best friends. When they explain to each of their respective grandchildren that they have bought an RV, sight unseen, Jake and Lexie determine that they will accompany their grandmother and her friend because of the advanced age of both of them. Jake flies them out, and then they stay driving the decrepit mobile home. Jake and Lexie find that the qualities they thought the other had were enhanced during the madcap caper. A few days together in a motor home which is falling apart , and then a year later - the second wedding of the book.

Third novella: "Bride on the Run"
Alexandria does not love the man chosen for her by her father. So she runs away with her friend Bertilda (Birdy). They got to Oregon, and meet some colorful characters. Alex has been waiting for God to show her who she is supposed to marry; she does not want it to be the supposed hobo she meets in a garbage dump, but there is an explanation. After being at Heaven's Corner for several days or weeks (and the hilarious hijinks that occur), a crisis forces Evan to recognize his desires and stop insisting on his singleness.

All three novellas are sweet and hilarious.

I actually had this marked on goodreads.com, that I had actually read this book in the past. So, I was a little disappointed when I added it to my currently reading shelf when I received it from paperbackswap.com.

I was surprised to find that the book didn't ring any bells when I started reading it.

At any rate the book was good. It wasn't my favorite book by these authors (Liz Curtis Higgs, Carolyn Zane, and Karen Ball) but it was good. I had a hard time with the Novella "Fine Print" only because it was so far-fetched. Although cute, I had a hard time believing in this story...it was just too far-fetched. It did make me giggle at times, so I guess it lived up to its name.

The second story "Sweet Chariot" was funny. Again, a bit far-fetched, but I loved the premise. The road trip became a little tedious, but overall a cute story.

The final story (by one of my favorite authors, Karen Ball) was cute too.

With all of the stories (and what I find with Novellas), is that they have so much story, and then the authors realize that it was supposed to be a "short" story and it gets wrapped up way too soon...or some of the other "Stuff" should have been cut. They just seem to be missing "something".

At any rate, a cute and quick read.

'Bride on the Run' - my June 2016 read for the Bride/June Challenge was another laughter filled story that included emotional tears when this trellis climbing runaway meets her real match.

Jan 19, 2013 -'Fine Print', the novella entry from Liz Curtis Higgs in this threesome, had me laughing out loud so often she's gained me as one more cheering fan!
2 unattached singles find each other b/c of an elderly grey-haired father who has more tricks up his well inked sleeves than most men half his age. He negotiates the services of a good looking speech coach to assist his son who's headed for an acceptance speech in the local chamber of commerce gala, but that's only the beginning of what he has in mind.
Great laughs and love ahead..

I found this book through an author search. I love Liz Curtis Higgs! I read another book recently where three authors collaborated together for a set of related novellas. What a great idea! Each author draws their own fan base and introduces them to other related authors. Plus, they try their hand a something a little shorter. I think more authors should do this kind of collaboration.

These particular three novellas are easy-to-pick-up, easy-to-put-down, falling in love with an unlikely character stories. Perfect for the moments of time I have while traveling in the Sonoma wine country. Good vacation reading.

Loved the first 2 stories! They are laugh out loud funny. I seriously about peed my pants during the motor home fiascos. Family vacations as a kid in the motor home came to my own mind and I could clearly picture that drama. "Fine Print" was such a sweet story and Hugh was adorable. The third story had a great supporting cast but the eye candy wasn't as delicious as the other 2. Just didn't get to know him as well. Still enjoyable for all the rest of the characters though. The catapult scene was too funny. Cute!

PB-B c2001 3 Authors, 3 Novellas:

In "Sweet Chariot" by Carolyn Zane, 2 old ladies buy a motor home sight unseen, and their grandchildren go along to talk some sense into Grandma. Good. In "Bride on the Run" by Karen Ball, when her father insists she marry the man he picked for her, Alex climbs out the window and down the rose trellis to get away to have time to follow God's command to "Wait". Good.

Three faith filled, funny & light side of romance, warm novellas by 3 authors: Liz Curtis Higgs, Carolyn Zane, and Karen ball. The novellas have believable & warm characters who trust in The Lord, wait on HIM for the desires of their hearts, who don't understand God's plans... but their eyes are on God - the author & finisher of our Faith!!

This was a sweet, simple read randomly picked up at the local library. There wasn't a lot to choose from but this was cute. Three novellas, different characters, settings, etc. The last one was my favorite just because I belly-laughed for 5 min straight from one of the scenes involving a cat in a tree, a little girl's prayer and perfect timing. Perfect for a beach read or a weekend off.

I loved this book. Three of my favorite authors all in one book. All three stories were fabulous but only one had a toilet on fire. And that would be Carolyn Zane's sweet chariot. This book captured my heart. Zane's kooky sense of humor was just what I needed. Two thumbs up.

I bought this book because I liked the front cover (have a peek at the cute mouse in the bouquet). It's a great book and you'll giggle your way through parts of it as you read what some of the characters get up to. This is one book that I read every so often, especially when I need a giggle!!

I actually laughed out loud at each of the novellas that were in this book! All of them had fun characters, with crazy mishaps and sweet romances that made them hard to put down. I felt like each of them could be turned into a movie on the Hallmark channel or something.

This is a collection of three quick romance stories. They are clean with religious themes. I read them the summer before I got married which was fun.
