I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

This novella tells the story of how Sara, the current Guild Hunter's boss and Elena's best friend, came to meet her husband, Deacon. Fun, sexy, action packed.

This is the story of how Sara, the future new Guild Director, met Deacon, the future past Slayer for the Guild... I guess it was an OK story, but constrained by the format of a short story, everything was too insta - insta-sex, insta-love, and insta-problem solving... As I said, I an curtain it is because of the format, but it lacked in build-up and just fell a bit.... short?

“What makes you think I’d let you within a foot of me?” Her voice held the rough edge of desire, but it could as easily have been anger.
“What makes you think I’d ask nice?”
“Try anything and I’ll cheerfully gut you with your own knife.”
Deacon smiled. And it turned him from sexy to devastating. “This’ll be fun.”

I have loved Elena’s best friend Sara since the first moment she vowed to protect Elena from Raphael. And I love that we got this short story, showing us how Sara and Deacon met.

I loved learning more about the Guild, and seeing Sara work as a hunter was awesome. For someone so small, she sure is kick-ass! The instant attraction between her and Deacon was awesome, and I found it so fascinating that the Guild has a hunter whose job it is to hunt rogue guild hunters.

This was a wonderful novella, and definitely a must read for all fans of this series.

This was nice. Not as exciting as I thought it was going to be, considering how it was SARA AND DEACON’S STORY. However, it was pleasant and I did like their dynamic overall. Also, HOORAY for strong, kickass heroines. 3 stars

" 5 - I can't be your boss - I have to be your lover Stars!"

I love this short story of how Sara and Deacon met and fell in love.

These two Warriors are so opposite in how they relate to people socially (Deacon the loner, and Sara a very social comrade), but their loyalty, strength, and sense of honour manage to balance one another perfectly.

Their attraction is instant, and the chemistry is sizzlin'!

One of my favourite short stories in the Guild Hunter series!

I read this as part of Must Love Hellhounds in 2011. Apparently I did not like it much, as I wrote this short review:

Nalini Singh just doesn't do it for me. I must have read something of hers before, but I can't remember what it was. Reading her stories feels like watching a bad B movie. I just don't like her characters and her stories just feel a little shallow to me.

Something must have struck a chord, because I got #1 of the series. Which I finally read in 2016 and almost DNFd. I stuck with it and ended up liking it. I will probably continue with the series. Go figure.

The story of how Sara and Deacon came to be an item and a glimpse in the inner workings of the Guild. I loved the romance, the banter between Sara and Deacon was just great! But mostly I loved how strong and smart Sara really is. She is, indeed, the best choice for Guild Director.

The biggest problem was that everything was too rushed. i know it's because of the limitations of the format but it feels a bit forced. Still I found it extremely enjoyable and now I find myself wanting a hellhound of my own ;)

I read this story as part of the Angels' Flight anthology which contains 4 Guild Hunter novellas.

I have liked Elena's best friend Sara from the moment we first met her in Angel's Blood. As the guild director she has always gone out on a limb for her people and she is particularly protective of Elena even when that does mean facing off against a pissed off archangel. Sara and weapon expert Deacon are such a cute couple and I've always enjoyed seeing Elena spend time with them but it was fantastic to actually discover how they met each other and became a couple.

This story has a nice amount of action as Sara and Deacon work together to track down a rogue hunter who has started murdering vampires. Sara is also facing trials thrown at her by the archangels because she is about to become the new guild director and the odds are not in her favour. The chemistry between Deacon and Sara is fantastic, they have trouble keeping their hands off each other but their worlds are far apart and they both have reservations about how a relationship between them would work. Sara worries that Deacon wouldn't want to have her as his boss when she becomes director and Deacon prefers a quiet life away from the spotlight which is something the director will never be able to have. I just love this couple and it was great to have a story which focuses on them, I hope we get to see more slices of their life together further down the line.

By some weird twist of fate this is my first time reading this, which is surprising considering how much I love this series but........moving on.

This was pretty ok for a novella but a disappointment considering the couple it's about. I expected more from Sara and Deacon's story. They met on the hunt, had sex, she didn't want to let him go....2 months late he turned up again bam.....the end! The mystery with the gay vamp/Slayer pairing was more interesting. Deacon barely spoke to Sara but ya know there was a connection..........sigh

This obviously wasn't a favourite but it is a part of my favourite series so 3*.

Me ha gustado mucho, lastima que sea tan corto, el problema de los relatos cortos es que no se puede profundizar mucho en los personajes. Pero ha estado muy bien saber como se conoce Deacon y Sara.

We get to see how Sara and Deacon met and fell in love in this short story. Although a short story it does have a deputy to it that draws you in and leaves you hungry for more of the guild Hunter books. We get our first glimpse of Elena here and she's a much happier and relaxed person than the one we first meet in Angels Blood. Deacon and Sara are also extremely interesting characters and would love to read more from Deacons past.................

** Read as part of Angels' Flight

Angels' Judgment is currently only available in Angels' Flight. Not published as a single title yet.

This one we get Sara Haziz story. She is a human-born Guild Hunter who later becomes the Guild Director for America. Before she becomes the Director she is sent on a mission and tested by the Archangel’s - The Cadre. But, she’s not alone. Yummy, Deacon is at her side. He’s their to offer protection and to help Sarah on her mission.

It's action-packed and gritty. I loved every moment of it. They are hunting one of their own, a Guild Hunter who may or may not have gone off the deep end. Sarah uses her mind along with her crossbow to her advantage. Deacon was a amazing. He does his job well, but he can also be light and funny. The chemistry was off the charts with these two and those love scenes, steamy.

Angels’ Judgement was a treat. It was wonderful to see Sarah and Deacon become lovers. This novella was perfect. Their is action, danger, blood, and romance.

Sara and Deacon are another couple that I wasn't that interested in, again because they were already paired up, but also because they're human. In a world of angels and vampires most human characters just can't compete for my attention the same way. That being said it was fun seeing their couple origin story and getting a glimpse of Ellie before all the craziness of book 1. I did enjoy this one, but I feel like it needed to be a bit longer to really believe in their intense immediate feelings. Deacon was a little too much the strong and silent type so seeing more of his POV would've been good for understanding where his head was at. Also the sex scenes were basically FTB with the lack of description which was surprising for Nalini lol. All in all though this was an entertaining little short story/novella.

My Review:

Angel's Judgement was such a fun novella. I really found this one interesting. The relationship was more softer angst in the relationship, this felt more like a team effort and loved how easy they got alone together. We also see how well they interact with one another. They have a fun dynamic and the connections to the series was fab. I really loved the mystery though especially with the vampire that we see that really digs deep on your compassion. Seeing a man being turned and it only makes him mentally not fully there any more. You just really feel for him. Nalini Singh really works on the human element so well in this one.

Overall its a very short but fast read that will keep you on the edge and have you swooning in moments! Loving these novellas this author writes.

ANGELS' JUDGMENT: This is a prequel novella to the Guild Hunter series. This novella introduces Sara who is the leading candidate to be the new Guild Director. She meets Deacon who is a slayer tasked with tracking down rogue hunters. Deacon has arrived to be a bodyguard for Sara because the Angels have a habit of testing potential directors in deadly ways. The two are in search of a rogue and end up in a romantic relationship that has no future because Sara's very public new job does not mesh with Deacon's very private responsiblity. I liked this story and did not feel that I needed to know any other information other than what was introduced in this story. It interested me in reading more about the series. Rating: 4 stars.

Finally we get Sara and Deacon's story. I love this one. Sara is on the shortlist for and Deacon is acting as her . I have been wanting to read their story since I first read Angels' Blood. I wish it was longer but this is just as good. It shows how Sara and Deacon met and became a couple. I really loved this one.

Me quedé con ganas de más pero a la vez también quedé conforme(? Jajaj

Sara y Deacon me gustaron pero al ser una historia de menos de 100 páginas realmente no se profundizó mucho en ellos, lo cual es una lastima.

The overall storyline about finding the killer was interesting but like in most short stories the problem was solved very fast and easily. I think this could have filled a whole book.

I really liked Rodney. He was kind of cute. Illium was there for a second which made me happy.

The romance was horrible. There is zero chemistry between Deacon and Sara. All we got is "Oh, he is so hot" and "I hope I can soap him up" thoughts at the most inappropriate times! WTF! The sex scene is boring as hell. If this is sex with Deacon when he "loses control", then he is a bad lover. Once again, the authors speaks of "unnatural chemistry" but we don't see it. Oh, and of course the heroine never, ever had a ONS but jumps into the sack with the hero after knowing him less than a day. Stupid! They don't know each other at all but of course he gives up everything for her in the end. He's an idiot!
