What a joke! If there was a reward for the most self-centered, self-pitying, whining h, Claire would win hands down! Unbelievable! So, she came from a poor family; so did a lot of people. So, Elliott, the rich guy she managed to land, (and don't tell me his money had nothing to do with it, I'm not dumb enough to buy the Brooklyn Bridge) cheated on her with his ex-girlfriend; that's happened to plenty of women. So, Elliott was a compulsive gambler, that's true of a lot of people. And when he croaked, before Claire could say "Merry Widow", she finds out he left her with nothing but a well that may not have any oil! Oh, Boo Hoo!! No one suffers the way I do!!

What a whole lot of Poo!! (Enough to fill a dozen potties, which she could display at her pity party!)

She does one thing sensible: she works hard to establish her art career and hopefully make enough so she won't be dependent on the well. But then she goofs it all up by pretending to be something she's not: a wealthy widow. So she puts on a rich act and makes everyone think she's rolling in the greens and loving it so much, she can't bear to part with any of it, giving her a miserly rep, which she apparently prefers to the truth, which was nothing to be ashamed of.

To make things worse, once the H, Ryan comes on the scene (he works on the oil rig) she gets even more phony, acting like an independent businesswoman who wants no ties or commitments, when she's really a frightened young woman who doesn't want to risk getting hurt again, because - of course - she's the only one in life who's even been hurt!

She also has the nerve to berate Ryan for not being honest with her (assuming he's just out for fun and games, even when he's told her more than once that he's in love with her), when meanwhile she's being deceptive in so many ways, like when she puts on a rich girl act for an art gallery owner who's interested in her work, and says she's staying at a swank hotel, when all she can afford is an inexpensive motel, and has to pretend she's headed for her suite, then sneak out the building and head for the motel. Talk about DUMB!!!

It also doesn't take Claire long to get naked with Ryan, but then she puts on a martyr act as if she did something awful, when meanwhile she had great sex with a man she loves (though she won't admit it), compared to the lousy sex she had with the husband she grew to despise. Then she goes on and on (and ON AND ON) about how it's hard for her to trust, she doesn't want to get hurt, she needs to be careful, etc., then she gets naked with Ryan again, and again, and again, and each time she gives the same speech. She also talks of how important honesty is to her, when meanwhile she's playing all kinds of deceptive games! Talk about a hypocrite!

Not that Ryan's Mr. Perfect! He gets jealous for no reason, like when Claire had a lunch appointment with Cliff, the gallery owner, and Ryan assumed it was a date, then made all these accusations, which ended up in them having a huge fight, causing him to go out and get drunk, then spend the night with Regina, a real rich bitch who was the ex-girlfriend Elliott had the affair with, who has her sights set on Neal, a rich society man, but also wants to get back at Claire for marrying Elliott, and at the same time get Neal jealous, and besides all that, Ryan's a hot guy with a great body, so why not?

Later, when things were better between him and Claire (meaning they hit the sheets again), he gives, without a doubt, the worst marriage proposal ever! This dumbo tells her that when it's time for him to move on to the next oil rig, he hopes she'll go with him, and anyplace else he goes. That was it! Does that sound like a marriage proposal to anyone but the idiot who made it? It sounded more like what Claire took it to be, a suggestion that she travel with him so they can keep hooking up. And he wonders why she turned down the offer??? Clueless or brainless or both???

Even more insane, is when Regina, one of the financial backers on the well (but secretly planning sabotage), tells Ryan she'll cut off funds unless he marries her! (It seems Neal's dragging his feet about making a commitment and Regina also had a fantastic orgasm while writhing beneath Ryan, not to mention how upset Claire will be, so why not?) And Super Jerk agrees!! Rather than admit to Claire that he found out her true financial status, he'll let her keep her pride and her oil well and sacrifice himself in marriage to Ms. Horny Toad! And every time he tries to get out of the deal, Regina threatens to kill herself and he caves. Talk about a pair of raisin balls!! He needs a good testosterone shot to get them plumped up to plum size!! (I guess Regina took a lot out of him while she was shouting "YES!! YES!! YES"!!)

I won't bother telling anymore, because anyone reading this will get the idea by now. Ms. Trent has written some good books, but this was NOT one of them!

I really wants to love this book but I just can't. The H/ h bonding is looks too real to me but I a bit can't enjoy with their love. Every things they did I can't accept it at all. I can't find any logic in this book. I'm so happy finally I can finish its.By the way, Ms. Trent made me enjoy very much with her scene. It's looks so wonderful place for falling in love with someone there. This is the one thing I got from this book.
