With no Mr. Right in sight, Paige Woods has decided to take matters into her own hands. Or rather, the hands of a fertility specialist. Being thirty-eight years of age, she’s determined to have the family she’s always dreamt of, and sees no need for a man to make that happen. No, Paige has wasted enough of her time searching for a man that won’t break her heart, and she’s now convinced that that man simply does not exist. The only thing Paige is sure of is that she wants a baby. Period. If only the hot hunk of man she recently met wasn’t so damn appealing…and gay?
Vincent Manos can hardly contain his inner beast when he catches Paige’s scent. That’s because she’s not just an ordinary woman, though. He’s scoured the world, for more than a hundred years, to find the woman to complete him, the woman destined to be his mate. And now, in Paige, he’s found her, at long last. In a gay bar of all places.
There’s only one problem…or two…or three…that may hinder the two from ever getting together, though. Which begs the question—will Vincent be just another man that slips through her fingers for one reason or another, or has she finally met her Mr. Right this time?

One of her first books I'm sure and it shows. Very short but complicated story. All the action happens in maybe 48h and it's completely ridiculous. The female MC meets her other half, they have sex, she becomes pregnant, learns he's a werejaguar, they mate and she gets turned into a werejaguar too. Oh and they're having twins. Magical twins. Like..No.

I really do have some spoilers on my review so be warned if you're the type to hate spoilers before reading a book.
OVERALL: I wish it was not a short story at all, or that this story have a sequel or something. It was great, I love it even though the events happened fast. I like the characters and they are adorable together. It was a light read, no blood-shed involved and it will definitely leave the reader hanging but still I would recommend it.
It's weird that she was willing to let a total stranger get her pregnant via sexual intercourse. It's weird that she assumed he was gay and was attracted to her because he thought she was a "transvestite." *cringe* It's weird that the Hero's mother basically became a shifter purist because the purists were so cruel. It's weird how the author left the questions surrounding the pregnancy and children. This is just weird.
This book was just not good. I don't know why I read another book by this author, but this time it's on me. I should have known better. I usually don't expect much from paranormal romances, but this was just plain stupid!
The woman in the book is weak. She has these moments of strenght but they are just that, moments. It's fine to have a naked stranger in your bed who took your clothes of while you were passed out. Who then later crept in your house to lay naked in your bed, after you kicked him out. That's normal.
The man is creepy, weird and stalkerish. He recognises these flaws but that's that, he doesn't stop doing these creepy things. It's totally fine to undress a woman you know for 5 minutes and then lay in her bed naked. That's what normal people do. It's cool. I'm not even going to comment on the subtle bestiality. Gross!!
And then the baby! WTF was that, I'll be your baby-daddy even though we've known each other for 1 second, and I'll leave after, if you want me to! You just met her, what are you doing!!??
The problem with short stories is that authors need to build a world and create characters in a small number of pages. They have to pack in the details quickly otherwise they are at risk or creating a 2 dimensional story. That is, I believe, the issue with Wicked Shift.
I liked the H and h well enough but I didn't know them well enough to truly care. It all happened so quickly and Vincent and Paige were the right mix of possessive alpha and feisty independent woman. There just wasn't enough story.
This was a fun read. I loved Vincent and how he could be an alpha male one minute and a blushing six foot hunk the next. I enjoyed that Paige was an older woman who was insecure about her curves.
The one thing that got annoying was the misunderstandings. Paige seemed to misinterpret a lot of what Vincent said/did during the first half of the story.
But other than that I loved the fact that this takes place in South Florida and I live real close to where Paige does, yay!
All in all, it was a fun read. I just wish it was longer.
I liked this story, even though Paige was kind of annoying. If it isn't her incessant need to overreact and rush to conclusions, it's her sexual narcolepsy. In true CK fashion, the story was too short, which makes me a fool for coming back for more. Just a few more pages could have provided more detail so the ending wouldn't seem quite so rushed. I liked the overall premise of the story, and I even liked Vincent, even though Paige's PMS turned him into a meek house cat instead of a fierce Alpha. I just wish it was better executed.
I love Ms. Kyle's writing. This book is not her norm. Maybe it was too short, if there was more information given I may have been pulled in more. I enjoy caring & learning about the characters in a story. I read it not realizing that this was it. The book was released in 2007, don't think she's going to finish Series, right?? Wish she had an I love her books.
Wicked Shift was a sexy good read! Celia Kyle can tell a good story. Her characters in this book are decently conceived but kind of shallow. I loved that Paige and Vincent completely misunderstand each other and make common early relationship mistakes...but at warp speed. It was a good fast read. I enjoyed it, you might too!
This is more of a short story than a full book, and the characters and story suffer for it. The entire story spans two days and barely leaves one apartment, yet life changing events unfold on this accelerated time line.
