A SIZZLING Highland Romance!

Mary Wine did an excellent job on this book. I REALLY enjoy it from beginning to end. The story moved with a good pace that kept me interested. Of course I love me a HOT Highlander book and that is exactly what I got here, Scottish brogue and all.

Norris is your typical Sexy Highland hero who is strong, brave and very honorable. The heroine Daphne was very humble, and always put other’s happiness above her own. They had fantastic chemistry, and when these two were intimate with each other, the heat radiated off of the pages. If I had to use one word to describe this book, it would be sizzling.

Daphne was constantly belittled, accused of bad things and deeds, but she kept her head held high and stayed brave through it all. She showed no weakness even when all seemed lost to her. Norris, of course being the honorable man he was, stood behind her through it all.

Mary wrapped this story up nicely, but no epilogue. It’s too bad because I love reading epilogues. I surely would have loved to have read one even if it was just to give us a peek into the next book. I have no idea if Mary is going to write another book in this series, but there are a few characters from this book that would make for another good read.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good sizzling Highland romance.

This is a DNF review.

I'm afraid I didn't care for this one nearly as much as the first book I read from this author. There was a sex scene before the first 50 pages were up which felt way too soon and left me completely unmoved because there were no feelings involved at all, least of all love. The characters had already been together previously in the book prior to this one which I'd read, but it didn't help with my connection to the characters at all, unfortunately. And the hero is a known womaniser, which is another pet peeve of mine. (Why do women enjoy reading about such men? I don't understand the appeal. They should be avoided at all costs if you ask me, both in real life and in fiction). I also did not appreciate the way he made her leave her home by announcing to everyone that she'd slept with him, thereby shaming her in front of her entire clan, and giving him the right to take her away in case she was pregnant.

Pig.

Because I'd enjoyed the first book I read by Mary Wine, I went way past my usual stopping time with a book I'm not enjoying. Made it to precisely half way. Then asked myself the all-important question, "do I care what happens next?" The answer, sadly, was no.

I received this ARC via Netgalley & the publisher, Sourcebooks , in exchange for an honest review.

I love a good Highlander romance. And author Mary Wine always does them justice. This is one very hot & steamy romance story. Who could resist a hunky Highlander in a kilt? Not me!!! And not Daphne.
Daphne MacLeod gave her innocense to Norris Sutherland to prevent clan war. And he has haunted her memories ever since. Norris Sutherland can't forget Daphne or the passionate night they spent together. He persues her & brings her back to castle Sutherland as his mistress. Yet, he longs to make her his wife. This is a very passionate love story about two lovers who decide to risk all to be together. But first they will have to face clan prejudices & thwart the schemes of a couple of very nasty characters.
There is great potential for at least two more stories to follow this one. I am dying to read about Gahan( Norris half brother) & Moira. (Hint...hint) And of course, there is Saer(Daphne's half-brother) . I think his story could be even more fascinating. Enough of my hints to the author. Let me just say that I loved this book. Absolutely freakin' loved it! I give it my highest recommendation for all lovers of Highlander Romance.

The blurb is a bit misleading. This is what happens. 3 months ago Daphne had sex with the Earl of Sutherland so she did not have to marry her best friend who was in love with another woman. She is now ruined gods and tries to get her clan back on its feet. They are poor and without a clear leader. And Norris does think about her, as a certain part of him remembers her well. And that is where this story begins.

Daphne is believed to be an heiress, which is silly since she knows she is dirt poor. She wants to feel free, she says what she feels and she is a strong woman, something that is not always good back then.

Norris, the strong hero, the leader for his clan (and all that) is, well truth be told he kind of thinks with his favorite body part when it comes to the heroine.

I liked the book because it had the usual drama. A couple that can't be but is on each other like rabbits anyway. A bitchy person that shows up (I shall say no more). And getting what you want, or do not know you want.

But I did feel that Norris should have done more at times. There were some things and if I had been Daphne then I would just have told him to bugger off, but just like him she thought with her new favorite body part.

Yes there is passion in this book if you have not noticed ;)

Sexy highlander seeks woman that does not back down.

Daphne MacLeod was once betrothed to Laird Broen MacNicols but for many reasons that wedding was never destined take place. In order to escape that would- be marriage, Daphne MacLeod lost her virtue to Norris Sutherland. Both Daphne and Norris ultimately returned to their perspective homes, both still single and both a bit altered with all that went on between them.

Being on the losing side after the Battle of Sauchieburn, MacLeod lands were raided and left nearly barren, leaving Daphne to pick up the pieces and gather her clan in some sort of unity. She is still held with some contempt by her clan since the marriage to MacNicols would have helped the clan's dire situation after the battle, but Daphne knew she did the right thing. Three months after their loss, the MacLeod clan is trying to get it together, with some difficulty, and Daphne still thinks often of Norris Sutherland.

In the three months since Norris Sutherland bedded Daphne, his mind also often drifts to thoughts of the lass. Things are no longer the same with him either as he finds himself uninterested with every other lass that throws herself in his path. Laird Lytge Sutherland watches his son ,Norris carefully and sees there is something amiss with his son's attitude. In a conversation with his son he suggests that Daphne may be a perfect match for Norris, providing the rumors of her elusive dowry are true. This sparks the interest of Norris who agrees that his father's suggestion might just be something to explore. So he sets out to the MacLeod holding with his bastard brother, Gahan and his loyal men in tow.

Trouble brews brightly when neighboring Comyn leader Morrell Comyn sets his sights on capturing and forcing Daphne to become his bride. Comyn does not realize the enemy he makes of Norris Sutherland once he sets a hand on Daphne, or what lengths Norris Sutherland will go to make sure Daphne is safe and secure, even if he has to drag her back to Sutherland lands. Which he ultimately does, in the process creating turmoil on every side. On top of all that another woman, Sandra Fraser, vying for Norris Sutherland's attentions arrives, wreaking havoc with every breath she takes. Daphne is a formidable lass, but is she enough to take on the evil-doings? Will the Sutherland clan back her up when things go awry? Or will they allow Daphne to hang? All these questions and more are answered when you read The Trouble with Highlanders by Mary Wine.

Oh how I loved this book. When an author and the story can get my emotions flowing, and I go from happy, to sad to angry ( where I wish I was part of the book and want to murder the evil wench), I know it's a winner. Then it has to have a strong female. I am so NOT for a whiny "woes me" chick. Daphne is in no way whiny. She is strong, she is sassy and she interesting. Norris is no slouch either, my ultimate male, tall, devilishly handsome and loyal. Mary Wine is a master or more appropriately the mistress when it comes to story-telling. I had just put down a book I could not get through to save my life, picked up The Trouble with Highlanders, and stayed up all night intrigued with this book. Reading it refreshed my memories of The Highlander's Prize by Mary Wine, where we meet Daphne and Norris. Yes, I loved that book too.

The Trouble with Highlanders is a roller-coaster of romance, suspense and history all wrapped up in a paperback novel for all to enjoy. I highly recommend this, or any read by Mary Wine for that matter. I am so looking forward to the next book in this Highlander saga!

Mary Wine’s Highlander books are a really good series. I hate that I’m starting with the fifth one, The Trouble With Highlanders.

Daphne needs all the help she can get. Her clan has lost everything. She doesn’t know how they will survive the winter. Everyone knows that she gave her virginity to the overlord Norris Sutherland. Everything is up in the air because there is no male to take over and she steps in even though she is a woman.

Norris is a very strong and just Overlord. He can’t get Daphne off his mind even if she was the one that walked away. He decides to go see her because her dowery is in question. Also because he wants to see her.

It had a slow start to it and I didn’t know if I would be able to get into it. I’m glad that I decided to give it a chance and kept on reading. That’s when things started getting very interesting. I couldn’t put it down after that.

I enjoyed watching Daphne and Norris banter back and forth. It was so exciting to watch and really you could say they were both the winner. The sex between them could’ve set the sheets on fire but they didn’t always have sheets. Norris wasn’t ashamed like most men would be. He knew he was hooked and he didn’t care who seen.

Of course Norris being a highlander he did let his temper get away from him. I loved when he would pick Daphne up and put her over his shoulder for everyone to see.

You know out of every romance nothing is ever smooth sailing. You have a spoiled little witch. Well that’s the nice word that I will call her. Sandra Fraser is her name and she is after Norris. Will she get him by whatever means she can? I guess you’ll just have to read to find out.

I enjoyed this story and loved how the characters interacted with each other. I hope that I get to learn more. I just know that some of them has to have their own stories and can’t wait to find out which.

I have never read a book by Mary Wine but, I just want to say that I truly like her writing style. I felt the fear and the love that Daphne was feeling and that takes a lot for an author to do. So I want to thank her for pulling me into the story and letting me experience everything that her characters where doing.

So now I’m ready for the next Highlander that will come into my imagination. I highly recommend this book to everyone because the sex was out of this world. What would you expect with a Highlander.

Norris Sutherland, heir to the Earldom of Sutherland, has been plagued for months with a dissatisfaction with life. A vibrant male, who has been the envy of the men in his clan and the dream of every clan female, finds himself interested in very little these days. His sex-life has become nonexistent by his own choosing. No matter what or who his aging father, the current Earl, throws in his path nothing seems to warm his blood. Norris is vexed by his own attitude, and knows he is disappointing his father who is eager for him to find a wife and marry. Then, the mention of Daphne MacLeod turns all those long extinguished lights back on. Although Norris shared only one night of pleasure and bliss with the sensual beauty, he suddenly realizes she has never truly left his thoughts. She may be the answer to all his troubles, and even a match that his father would approve of should the rumors of a hidden treasure of a dowry be true. Why waste one more night in an empty bed?
Daphne new the risks she took several months ago when she made the ultimate sacrifice in order to end a forced, arranged marriage. Truth be told, the only real sacrifice became her heart. She would never forget Norris Sutherland, but neither would she regret. In the months since their night of passion, many aspects of her life had changed and the meaning of sacrifice had become quite clear. Strength and fortitude had become her tools for survival, and Daphne would remain triumphant in spirit,if not in body. The last thing Daphne was prepared for was the reappearance of Norris Sutherland, however. She could survive her dreams, but can she survive the flood of emotion that follows in his wake?
Mary Wine writes a captivating tale of fateful, struggling love. It has your rugged, heroic highlander pitted against the brash strength of a highland lass. A highlander you can't help but fall for. An irresistible tale of danger and rescue with a good dose of passion.
Another for the lovers of the Highlands!

I loved it. My first Mary Wine novel. At first the heroine, Daphne, got on my nerves. She was stubborn, headstrong, fiercely independent, almost got herself married to the enemy clan, always testing the hero's, Norris, patience. However, her weaknesses were also her strength. She slowly won me over. Particularly, when she did not see herself above anyone else. She did not want to be waited on. She wanted to help out in the kitchen, but was berated for that. I liked Norris. He is alpha, protective, sexy, he truly adored Daphne from the minute he laid his highlander eyes on her. He swept her away from her clan to his kingdom so that he may pursue her without any conflicts and/or her big brother running interference. Daphne was so much in lust and like with him that she did not care that he was heir to his clan and he had his own kingdom. She loved him for him; while, Norris loved her without a dowry. Pre-arranged marriages were a custom back in that long ago century and I'm sure it still plays a big part in some parts of the world. There is nothing wrong with that. It keeps the lineage and it is like a pre-nuptial agreement. Thus, if I was in that era, I hope to be as lucky as Daphne and Norris were. There were conflicts and enemies of the state. Nonetheless, those conflicts were resolved and those enemies were put down. It was a great read and I am a fan.

The second in this series was not the same balance of history and romance as the first. Still, well-written with some tense chapters due to the introduction of a nasty antagonist. However, true love conquered all... as always.

The villains were so comically evil and predictable, I couldn't take this one seriously, not to mention the hero's name was almost DNF-level for me. The only other "Norris" I know of is Mrs. Norris, Filch's cat in Harry Potter. Actually, plenty of the characters in this had odd names, especially the menfolk (like Saer, Bari, Gahan, Lytge). Maybe these were common Scottish/Highlander names, maybe not. Anyhoo... Granted I didn't read the first book, I was pretty confused in the beginning, and couldn't feel the chemistry or connection between the couple. Most of the book was just filled with sex, most of which I skipped out of boredom (and didn't feel like I missed a thing), while the rest was over the top plotting and scheming by the comical evils. The romance was very cheesy, bordering on cringe. If you're just looking for something very light, cheesy, mindless, and with a "hot" (and questionably-named) Highlander who's very loyal to his lady, this one might be for you. Otherwise, skip this one.

Daphne MacLeod is a strong willed and very passionate female lead as her counterpart male lead Norris Sutherland matches her well.

The intrigue and conspiracies that accompany these characters romance added enough to the story to keep pages turning, even though there was no doubt in my mind about the outcome between the two.

Fast, easy, enjoyable read as are any books penned by this author for me.

Book 3 left and starting it this morning shortly with my breakfast.

Daphne avoided wedding Broen MacNicols twice. The first by running away to a convent, the second by losing her maidenhead to Norris Sutherland. Little did she know, the second escape would leave her thinking about the man despite the struggles just to keep her clan fed.

Norris has bedded many a woman. So why can't he get Daphne out of his head? The Earl's son and one to always do his duty, struggles to find the path to follow is heart and also do what is best for his clan.

It was ok

I wanted to like the story. She’s a good writer. Unfortunately, the heroine was kind of like a wet blanket and the hero was unoriginal. I can read a book a day but this one took me 8 days. Towards the end I was just skimming to end it.

3.5 stars, not my favorite historical romance. Norris was pretty much a dick not taking into account or acknowledging Daphne's feelings until like 75% into the book. In the end it was enjoyable but definitely not as good as many others I've read.
