2.5 Liked the mythology feel of this fantasy. Read as part of a "Hexed" anthology. Not really interested in reading the other 9 novels of these characters. Maybe the storyline would be better if I did.

Ice Shards (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon #9.5) by Yasmine Galenorn (rating: 2.5/5, 21Sep2019) seemed pretentious and pedantic in spots. The narrative style switched from more formal telling of mythology to modern vernacular. The descriptions of characters, people, events, and setting were excellent. The story was a little tedious. They tossed together a disparate mix of magic imbued characters who all loved and befriended the main character and had accompanied her to support her quest. I might have found it more appealing if I’d read more of the series.

I haven’t read any of the books in this series and I’m pleased to discover that this story stands fairly well on its own. I’m sure I would have loved this more if I’d already been immersed in the mythology of this universe. I found that it starts slowly and is a little tough to gain enough momentum in order to get to the point of the story that it’s more interesting to keep reading than to give up. I’m glad I kept reading though, because I enjoyed it.

Iris's backstory, she was suppose to be the High Priestess, but something happened and she was accused of murder but they couldn't prove it so she was banished and cursed to be barren. She returns to either clear her name or confirm her guilt. Was great to hear Iris's story.

It's an interesting and well-written novella, and it is my first encounter with this world and this author. It just wasn't anything special enough to get me to run out and seek more.

I like that it showed another pov then just the sisters and gets you closer to another character.

This started out slowly and took a while to get my attention fixed. Once it did, around 1/3 in, it was quite good. Iris, who works for and is really part of the Otherworld sisters, finally gets her redeption and finds out if she was guilty of her crime. She takes along a few friends and makes a few on the way. Nice to see the people again.

I loved being able to share what Iris went through to free herself from the awful curse she carried. Now she is free to have Babies & I have a feeling she will be very instrumental in the fight the sisters are in.

First peek into this new author's series. Iris seems cool but it is Camilla and the fact she has three husbands at the same time. And the intriguing relationship she has with Trillion. This has me interested enough to forge onward.

I don't think this works well as a standalone, I really had to push myself to finish it. The premise is good, but it was definitely written as part of a series, and having not read anything else in the otherworld series, I did not get the full effect I'm sure.
