Eighteen year old Erin Lustleigh is just starting university. She has no idea she's about to plunge into a world with werewolves, vampires, ghosts and, of course . . . hunters.
Erin's journey is one of heart ache, new experiences and dangerous dilemmas. She finds herself torn between sides, not knowing who to believe, or who to trust.
M.D. BOWDEN is a writer who lives in England with her partner and three children. She enjoys spending time with her family, in the sea, on the cliffs, and reading as much fantasy as she can get her hands on.
Erin turns out to be anything but the normal girl she thinks she is and her world turns out to be a much larger and scarier place than she ever imagined, filled with creatures she never thought were real. This book is basically just an introduction of characters and the setting of the scene for the books that follow. Erin leaves Devon and travels to university in London which is where she catches the eye of Aaron, a handsome albeit a bit creepy guy that she seems unnaturally drawn to, also one of her professors seems familiar, have they met before? This is a good book if you like the paranormal and it's set the stage well for the next one.
Erin is naïve to the fact that vampires and werewolves and other creatures truly exist. But how can that be, when she too possesses her own sort of magic. It’s not until her first week at Greenwich University that she finds out they truly exist and that she is in immediate danger due to the guy she seems enthralled with. Her flat mate, and new friend, Victoria, is a hunter and is there to help as well as convince Erin that things really do go bump in the night. Victoria and Professor Flynne want Erin to become a hunter as well. But can Erin break away from the spell she is under by her vampire guy, Aaron? Will Aaron change Erin into a vampire before she realizes what he really is?
This book was pretty awesome once it got going. The beginning was way too slow for me and there is tons of normal life, which is not appealing to me. But once it got going and Victoria and Dr. Flynne clued Erin in, then I started loving the story. I look forward to book 2 Fighting the Flame. If you like buffy style books, you will probably really enjoy this one.
Three stars is kind of generous here. One I don't really care for the new adult stuff so that's one strike. It has to be pretty good to get me by that and this wasn't. Two this seemed more like the beginning of a book versus an actual story. There was a lot of IMO superfluous stuff. The author could easily have edited this into a few chapters of a book. And thirdly it seems like the paranormal creatures are being made out to all be bad. I want my vampires and werewolves to be capable of good and not just things to be hunted down by hunters. Seems like someone who has "magic" in them might at least question that, although frankly we got to know so little of her maybe she will later. Not likely to read any more of these any time soon.
A story of a girl that spotted a werewolf and was almost attacked until she found her special powers which saved her when she was 8 years old. Now, while she is older she is attracted to Aaron with fire in his eyes. Her best friend tries to steer her away from him. Another of her friends Victoria, is a hunter (for werewolves, vampires, etc). She doesn't believe in vampires until.......
Description sounded interesting (and I stupidly trusted the amazon rating, which was way higher than 3), but I got about 20% in and deleted it. So bored.
