Ken Akamatsu (赤松 健, Akamatsu Ken, July 5, 1968 -) is a Japanese mangaka from Tokyo.

In his teenage years, Akamatsu failed the entrance exam to Tokyo University, and applied for Film Study instead (it is speculated that this is where he got the idea for Love Hina). Eventually, he became famous as an illustrator featured in Comiket (short for Comic Market, a comic convention bi-annually held in Japan). He used the pen name Awa Mizuno (水野 亜和, MIZUNO Awa). Akamatsu, still in college, then proceeded to win the Weekly Shonen Magazine award twice. His "A Kid's Game for One Summer" was awarded the coveted 50th Shonen Magazine Newcomer's Award soon after he graduated.

After a big hit with A.I. Love You, he finally made a grand success with his new manga, Love Hina. The series appeared in Weekly Shonen Magazine and has been collected in eleven volumes (with fourteen volumes in total), which have sold over 6 million copies in Japan, and received the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen in 2001.
Akamatsu had added elements of his own life experiences to the story, and this was said to have induced a unique feeling to the manga especially for Western readers, whose lack of familiarity with Japanese culture for the most part added to the effect. The series, published in America in 2002, was especially well received in many overseas countries - Akamatsu was surprised that even foreign readers found Love Hina to be "cute" and to their liking.

He is now married to his wife 'Kanon' Akamatsu, who was previously a singer/idol. He is currently working on his latest manga series, Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, which is his longest running manga so far. Like Love Hina, has also been made into an anime series. A second independent retelling of Negima was made called Negima!?. Both series were produced by XEBEC (Negima!? was produced by SHAFT).

Initially I was hesitant about trying the Negima! series out. Ken Akamatsu's previous series, Love Hina, ultimately underwhelmed and disappointed me. I love the man's artwork, but his writing left a lot to be desired.

So it was with a bit of apprehension that I approached Negima!, even though a couple of my friends insisted it was pretty good. I bought the first two volumes and read them back to back, and while Volume 1 was simply okay, Volume 2 was good enough that I decided to give the series a bigger chance and kept reading. With Volume 3 the series continued to improve, and Volume 4 was fantastic. While 5 didn't quite reach 4's lofty height, Volume 6 certainly does.

Akamatsu has improved as a writer. Negima! is a much more solid read than Love Hina, and Volume 6 is not only amusing, but actually exciting, with a lot of solid action and a very generous helping of cheesecake. Akamatsu is known for including quite a bit of fanservice in his manga, and this volume has it in spades. And I'm certainly not complaining. It helps to have the main character surrounded by thirty very cute girls (especially when so many of them are such good fighters), as well as competent villains. The baddies he's been facing lately are intriguing. It's always better when the villain of the hour is harder to best than your average egomaniac.

Put simply, I'm glad I decided to stick with this series. I'm looking forward to Volume 7.

Lots of adventure; in parts it was not clear what was happening.

Negima!: Magister Negi Magi continues to be one of my favorite manga series that Del Rey Manga publishes. I love that Negi uses his magic now and the battles with the bad guys are a blast! It is also cool that some of his student's know his secret and help him battle all of his enemies.

Once again, the artwork is wonderful and the storyline is quick and action-packed. This series has really turned out to be quite the page-turner.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the field trip storyline, which covered three entire books. Now that the field trip is over, I hope that another large storyline will appear in the next book, or that Negi still has battles to come. Either way, I am sure that there is more fun to be had.

Overall, I found that I loved Negima!: Magister Negi Magi - Volume 6 and highly recommend this manga series. I look forward to seeing what will happen when this teacher and his students return to school in Negima!: Magister Negi Magi - Volume 7. I wonder what adventures await them . . .

I rated this book a 9½ out of 10.

This has been, by far, my favorite volume! A lot of great action, and it was so much fun to see some of Negi's students kicking major butt!! I was happy Evangeline got to join the fray. And Negi did some great work too!!

Of course, there was the random, pointless nudity (which is part of the "appeal" to the series because only in Japan is it normal for a 10 year old boy to be around, touching, and having sexual tension with 14 year old girls....) so I guess I'll have to deal

This is when the series is the most fun and exciting! When the magic is happening!!

The chaotic class trip continues as Negi Springfield and his thirty-one beautiful female students explore the historic cities of Kyoto and Nara. Negi’s special headache is Konoka, the headmaster’s granddaughter, who turns out to have her own magical abilities! Although she’s not aware of them, others certainly are . . . and Konoka is kidnapped by a group of mages who plan to corrupt her budding talents. Negi is going to need all the help he can get–even if it comes from a former foe. . . .

In this volume we turn to the same old Akamatsu-sensei style - panty shots, bath scenes, and clothes busting away.

While I did enjoy the plot in this volume, the fan service, as always, is awkward. Of course, Akamatsu-sensei does this in ALL of the series I've read (Negima, Love Hina, A.I. Love You)

I'm happy to see some nice character development all around in this volume, and the magical fight scenes are getting more entertaining. Nice to see Evangeline return as more than a side-character since she's so much fun to read.

i really love wizards and magic, so i especially adored this series. i already finished reading all of them, but by the time i finished the first six books, i was thinking, "Perverted, perverted, hilarious, hilarious." My favorite characters are Nagi, Asuna, and Paru.

This one was well on its way to a four star rating when it regressed back to heavy gratuitous fan service in the resolution.
